Blood Kiss by J.R. Ward

Title: Blood Kiss
Series: Black Dagger Legacy #1
Author: J.R. Ward
Release Day: December 1, 2015

The legacy of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues in a spin-off series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author…

Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself…be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.

And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated—and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power…on the field, and off.

Paradise is the daughter of the King's First Advisor. Her destiny should be to marry someone from the Glymera and procreate as many babies as she can. However, Paradise is not with the program. She wants to be free to decide what to do with her future. After convincing her father, she decides to apply to the Black Dagger Brotherhood's training center program. No one thinks she can remain in it for too long. Not her father, the BDB guys or her childhood friend Peyton. But, Paradise is determined to show them all that she can.

Craeg wants to join the training program because he lost everyone when the lessers attacked. He wants to fight them and destroy them. Nothing or no one will interfere. Not even, Paradise, the woman who's constantly on his mind since the first time they met.

I'm so happy to be in the BDB world again. I love that JR Ward is doing this spinoff. The Black Dagger Legacy already has new characters I want to learn more about.
I was so happy Paradise showed them all that she could do it. Yes, she won't be able to win by force but sometimes brute force is not the only thing that matters.
The side story with Marissa and Butch was good too. She showed him, he was not to place her on a pedestal. She wanted to be his equal, his mate,  in all the ways it counts. Marissa's interaction with Havers made me think he might be getting a book too. Someone else who needs one is Lassiter. He made me laugh with every one of his scenes. By all means, continue doing a calendar.

Cliffhanger: No

This was the best Black Dagger Brotherhood book that J.R. Ward has written in a long time. I felt like she was going back to her original way of writing in this book, which was what made me fall in love with the series in the first place. The recent books were not my favorite books in the orginial series because I felt like there were too many secondary storylines in each book. I couldn't keep up with what was going on most of the times. All of the storylines took away from the main plot of the book and also resulted in the romances being a little dull. What I liked with this book was that there were only two main storylines, and they connected. I thought the book was paced very well, and I never felt bored. I am hoping that the other books in this series will be just as well written as this one was.

I really liked the new characters in this book. It was also nice to seem some of my favorite characters from the original series appear in this new installment. My favorite character in this book was Paradise. I admired her strength and strong will. She was able to be a strong woman without being a bitch. Some of my favorite scenes in this book were when Paradise was going through her training. She was just so tough and determined, which I loved. I also really liked Craeg. He was a sexy and strong man. The tension that was created between Paradise and Craeg was almost palpable. I thought J.R. Ward did a wonderful job at writing their romance.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot! I loved that this book felt like one of the original Black Dagger Brotherhood books. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves J.R. Ward's books. I would also recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read any J.R. Ward books, but is look for a sexy and action packed vampire book.

I've been patiently waiting for this book since I first heard that J.R. Ward was going to writing a spin off series to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I've been a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and loved the idea of getting some new characters.
Paradise is ready to break out of her shell and do something different with her life than what's been the intended plan since birth, which is be mated, run a household, and breed. All her life she's been coddled because she's one of the few remaining females of the Founding Families. She dreams about training with the Black Dagger Brotherhood and has finally been given her chance. Craeg has also been waiting. He has a plan to get retribution for his family and a female will only get in the way of his plans, but he can't seem to look away from Paradise. He can't explain his attraction to her or why his alpha male comes out at the sight of her, but knows that she isn't the type of female he should be after. Not only that but she seems to feel the same way and is doing nothing to fight her feelings.
I loved seeing all of these new characters, and some of the old ones as well! All of the brothers were the same crazy guys I remember especially Lassiter! I loved getting an update on Butch and Marissa who had big roles in this story as well. Paradise and Craeg were the perfect couple to start out this new series. I was completed engaged in the story and didn't set it down once! This is definitely the J.R. Ward I know and love! The next book can't come soon enough!
