Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lux #3

Third in the series. Please don't read if you haven't read the first two books.

Daemon and Katy are together. But they are still very affected by the death of their friend.

They are aware of an organization that is testing hybrids. They are also aware the onyx is extremely dangerous to them.

When Blake comes back insisting he has a way in into where Beth is captive, Dawson jumps at the idea.

We meet new characters and a new stone that can increase their powers.

The end of the book is heart-wrenching and I can't believe I need to wait that long for the next book.

Katy's and Daemon's romance is beautifully crafted. Daemon keeps on being sarcastic but also very sweet and romantic. He will do anything to keep "Kitten" safe.

Daemon smiled a little. Not a full breathtaking kind of smile, but it still reached down into me, wrapping around my heart. “I know you’re good inside. You’re warmth and light and everything I don’t deserve, but you—you believe that I deserve you. Knowing all that I have done in my past to other people and to you, you still believe I deserve you.”

4.5/5 Fangs - just because I hate cliffhangers.

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lux #2

Please read Obsidian before reading this review.

Katy now shares a connection with Daemon. She has become a hybrid. She also thinks that the connection with Daemon is affecting her feelings for her. She is trying to keep him at arm's length. It is pretty hard when she falling for Mr. Allien.

To makes things edgier the Department of Defense is in town and if they find out that Daemon is powerful and that Katy has powers now, they may take them both away.

They also have to think about a human/alien relationship won't be welcome in the Lux society. Also, there is a new boy in school. He immediately seeks Kathy and tells her that he can help her.

She begins training with a not so happy Daemon.

Daemon makes fun of Blake by changing his name constantly. And he is extremely jealous of his time with Katy.

Who is deceiving who?

This is a second great book in the series. Love the bad boy Daemon and his banter with Katy.

“I didn’t move that chair, Kitten.”
“I know.”
“I’m assuming you didn’t like where it was?”
“It was in your way,” I said. My hands were still curled around his arms.
“I can see that.” Daemon smoothed a fingertip over the curve of my bottom lip before taking my hand, pulling me up. Letting go, he watched me carefully and waited. Waited for…

What had happened slowly sank in beyond the fog in my brain. I’d just kissed him. Again. And right after he’d taken over my date with another guy—the guy I should be kissing. Or not. I didn’t know anything anymore.

“We can’t keep doing this.” My voice shook. “We—”

“We like each other,” he said, stepping forward, grasping the edges of the table on either side of me. “And before you say it, we were attracted to each other before I healed you. You can’t say that’s not true.”

He leaned in, his nose brushing my cheek. A shudder rolled through me. His lips pressed against the spot under my ear. “We need to stop fighting what we both want.”

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lux #1

Katy Swartz has moved to West Virginia. Her mom has decided her memories of her dad who died three years ago is too painful. So leaving sunny Florida is the best choice.

When Kathy knocks on her next-door neighbor's door she can't close her mouth. The boy in front of her is gorgeous with beautiful green eyes. When he starts talking she wants him to close his mouth. Daemon Black comes out as an arrogant pretty boy.

This, in some ways, changed through the book.

It turns out Daemon and his twin sister Dee (who becomes Kathy's best friend) are aliens. They are Luxen. Some parts of the government knows about them and even provides funds to them. They can manage the light. Their enemies are the Arum and they can handle the shadows.

When Daemon saves her life, she becomes like a beacon to an Arum. In order to survive, she will need to stay close to Daemon.

I like Katy as a character. She is not defenseless. She can banter with Daemon till the next new year. I also like that she has a blog and reviews paranormal, UF books. I love it when Daemon calls her Kitten.

The plot was good and it kept my interest to the end.

When I started reading, I didn't know Daemon was an alien. So this is my first book about aliens. Happily surprised.

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect.” His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. “The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”- Daemon

Avoiding Responsibility (Avoiding #2) by K.A. Linde

I guess I'm a sucker for book punishment. I read this book minutes after I finished Avoiding Commitment.
The sequel started with Lexi in bed with Mystery Man, when she receives a call. Guess who? nope, not the bastard. This time it is Ramsey and he asks her to come to Jack's wedding. At first she says no. But she ends up back in Atlanta. A year has passed and she was with Ramsey but after she found out some lies about him, she left him.
Bekah is still evil and Jack keeps on messing with Lexi's head, confusing her more. It is painful to read how the relationship is so self destructing.
I love the ending of this book. It was very satisfying. The twist at the end was remarkable. Love Ramsey even more.
I just hope that the next one doesn't bring Jack again.

4/5 Fangs in punishment/deceit/closure/excitement.

Avoiding Commitment by K.A. Linde
Avoiding #1

Why did I read this book? It was torture. I don't know if I love it or hate it more. Not only did I read it, I finished it the same night, and what's worse, I started and finished book two at six am. Luckily it was Sunday.

Background: Alexis or Lexi has been in a relationship with Jack (bastard!) for six years. If you ask them- they were never together. After two years of not hearing from him, he calls her and asks her for help with his current girlfriend Bekah. Bekah wants to meet all his ex-girlfriends and try to understand his lack of commitment.

Lexi discusses this with her best friend Chyna. Who convinces her to go to get some closure.

We get flashbacks of their relationship. The people they hurt during the ride. The errors they both make.

Bekah is evil, but her brother Ramsey is the opposite. I really found myself wanting him to be her HEA. Take that Bekah!

This is a fun, fast little book. Predictable, but we love some predictable HEA, don't we?

This is what Miss Ione does, who will sacrifice their life for the other one to survive. Tough choice. But to makes things more interesting a Fallen Angel has decided that Armageddon should happen in his hands and stealing Serena's charm is the beginning.
I like all the brothers but Wraith reminds me of Zhadist which is my favorite BDB brother. So he had me at tortured soul.

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica #1) by Larissa Ione

Tayla Mancuso is a demon hunter. Since her mother died when she was sixteen she has known about evil. She has been part of the Aegis, who sole purpose is too eliminate all demons since they are all evil. When she gets hurt, she ends up in a hospital, UGH. She also learns that not all demons are evil. Some of this information may have been let out of the info given to her by The Aegis.
Can enemies become lovers?
Many twists happen and all are welcome. Tayla also meets her long lost sister who is part demon.
The world building is fascinating and the secondary characters are great. Can't wait for their stories.
This was a great beginning to the series.

I recommend this book. It was fun reading the unmaking of Hunter. Vere was naive and sweet girl. The kiss was the best.

Kanin is the master vampire who saves her. When they are separated, she comes into contact with a human group who is looking for the cure. Part of the group is Zeke Crosse, he is loyal, truthful and a leader. For Allie is hard to keep up pretending to be human.

I like the world building and that the vampires are not portrayed as soft beings. I wished there was more Kanin in this book and more Zeke/Allie interaction.

When Jordan starts dating Ty, her relationship with Sam Henry starts to break. Henry has been her best friend and until Ty appears in her life, she didn't know how important he is to her.
This book is about dreams and waking up to the real world. It was entertaining and I thought Jordan was written in a perfect way.

Desire Unchained (Demonica #2) by Larissa Ione

We start book two with Shade (a Seminus Demon) and Runa in a Ghoul's dungeon. They have been trapped together. To Shade's horror someone he cares about has betrayed them and hates him and his brothers.

Runa is the girl whom he started having feelings for a year ago. He broke her heart when she found him in bed with two vampires. When she fled the apartment, she was then attacked by Luc and became a werewolf.

To make matters worse they are spelled to become life mates. This triggers the beginning of the curse or Maluncoeur. The "curse that promised if he fell in love, he'd slowly fade away until he became invisible to everyone. He'd live forever, wracked with stabbing hunger pangs, debilitating thirst, and unbearable sexual desire for all eternity."

There is the issue of Runa not being able to bond with someone who is not a werewolf too.

We catch up with the brothers, the Hospital UGH, and all the secondary characters.

The series gets better. The banter between brothers is fun to read. Reminds me of BDB at times.
