Harry Dresden is a wizard, and he is for hire. He is even in the yellow pages under "Wizard". He helps the cops with supernatural cases. But working for the police doesn't pay for all his bills. He is in need of new business.
He is tall, wears a long black duster, open doors for ladies, he is honest and has a knack for getting into trouble.
The latest police case involves a mage killing a couple which goes against wizard laws in this world. Both victims are known employees of very important/dangerous people.
His PI case has to do with a missing husband. Harry has to solve both cases without getting himself killed.
I liked the world building, love Harry's personality. The skull made me laugh and the love interest is there too. I like the idea that vampires look different without their glamour. Knowing Harry is tempted to the dark, makes thing interesting for futures books. Will read the rest of the series.

Hell on Wheels by Julie Ann Walker
Black Knights Inc. #1
Black Knights Inc. #1
Ali Morgan is dealing with the death of her brother. Her brother was part of an undercover elite group called the Black Knights. On the outside, they seem to be a custom bike company. The truth is that they do jobs for the government under the radar.
Ali has her suspicions, especially since her bother's best friend Nate "Ghost" Weller is also a member. She has always had a thing for him but he seems to hate her.
When Ali's life is in danger, she seeks his help. Nate has had his eyes on Ali since the first time he met her, but Ali's brother told him not to even think about it.
Now, they are forced to be work together and find out who is after her and why. Can Ali convince him she is the woman for him? Can they overcome the odds?
I like the first book. I'll probably read the rest of the series since book two has a very interesting couple.

Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3) by Darynda Jones
Charley Davison is trying to stay awake. Every time she doesn't, she interacts with Reyes. "Big Bad" is not happy with her since she bound him to his human body.
At the same time, she is trying to solve a case. The case involves a doctor who may have killed his wife. He has a history of being possessive and vengeful. When she goes to Rocket for help, he can't find her name on the wall. This is were we meet a new male character Donovan. He is a biker guy and he likes dogs. At some point her hires Charley too.
We learned more about Reyes and his human life, we get a glimpse of his friendships and relationship with his sister.
To makes matter worse it seems like Earl Walker may be alive and this could mean Reyes would get his freedom unless Walker kills everyone who may know the truth first.
I feel bad for Charley, she doesn't seem to have very good luck and getting hurt all the time is not fun to read. I don't know how I feel about Reyes or Garrett. I mean I love Big Bad and I want him to end with Charlie but Garrett is an interesting guy too. So is Donovan.

Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James
Taylor Donovan is a successful lawyer. She is in California temporarily for a case involving sexual harassment. While there, she is told that a certain famous movie star will need her help with a script from his new movie project. She is upset about having to babysit the actor. But, when the actor stands her up twice she is furious.
When they meet Jason Andrews has never been turned down or denied of anything. He is arrogant and famous and thinks women are all interchangeable.
Jason is excited about meeting his match. He just needs to make Taylor understand this and trust him. On the other hand, she just came out of a serious relationship and the guy cheated on her. Being mistrustful is the best defense for her.
I read this book last and I do have to say I did not like it as much as the other ones. Maybe because I thought Jason was too arrogant. It was still an easy read, with funny lines and interesting secondary characters. I think this was Mrs James first book too.

About That Night by Julie James
FBI / US Attorney #3
FBI / US Attorney #3
Rylann Pierce has relocated to Chicago. She moved from California when her ex-boyfriend moved to Italy. She has a new job under U.S Attorney Cameron Lynde (from book 1).
Nine years ago Rylann met Kyle Rhodes (Jordan's twin book 2) in a bar and he walked her home. They set a date for the next day, which Kyle never showed up because his mother was killed in an accident.
Nine years later Kyle is known as the Twitter Terrorist for shutting down twitter after his ex-girlfriend broke up with him in a tweet and then posted a video of her with another guy. There may have been some alcohol involved in his decision. He was sent to prison but thanks to his sister helping the FBI on a case, he was released earlier.
Now, the FBI/U.S. Attorney's office needs his help. He may have heard some communication between a prison guard and an inmate, The inmate lost his life by a white supremacist inmate. His death may have been ordered by the prison guard.
Kyle is trying to pick up the pieces of his life and start a new company. When Rylann asks for his help he can't deny her. He remembers her and wants more of her.
Kyle is referred to as "Sawyer" from Lost- so you have to love him just for that.
Has great hair, which he gets teased for.
The secondary characters a great here too.

A Lot like Love by Julie James
A Lot like Love
FBI/US Attorney #2
Julie James
Nick McCall has been in multiple undercover assignments. But, when he is finally ready to go on vacation for his mother's birthday, he is sent into another case. This particular case involves multibillionaire heir Jordan Rhodes, who owns her own wine store and has been invited to a party by a restauranteur owner. The FBI wants to plant microphones in his office and the party will be the perfect cover. In exchange, the FBI has offered to get her brother out of prison sooner. Her brother is in prison for turning off Twitter for two days.
When Nick and Jordan are forced to become a couple, the fantasy starts to become real.
Another great book. A lot of action and the interaction between the main characters is great. Love their banter. And I want her dress.

Something About You (FBI / US Attorney #1) by Julie James
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde is trying to catch up on some sleep in a hotel room. Through the walls she can hear a couple having sex. Later on, she is awakened by noise in the next room. She goes to the peep hole but the only thing she sees is a man with a hoodie leaving through the stairs exit. She calls the hotel line to complain. Security comes up and finds the body of a female. She soon finds out a politician had been next door and she has become the star witness for his defense. The FBI makes their appearance, and no other than Jack Pallas shows up.
Jack and Cameron have a history. Three years ago, he told the world that she "had her head up her ass" after she was told not to prosecute a certain mafia criminal. Jack had been captured and tortured when his undercover operation was discovered by this same criminal.
Because of his actions, he is transfered to a different state. Now, just recently relocated to Chicago, the last thing he wanted was to see Cameron again.
As fate will have it, now they have to be together and he is in charge of her protection. Sparks are flying between them.
Great book, with great characters.

Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James
Payton Kendall is a lawyer for the Chicago firm Ripley & Davis. She is a workaholic. For eight years she has been trying to be the best at the firm. During this time, she also had a continuos competition with J.D. Jameson. J.D. is an attractive rich attorney.
As fate will have it, they are forced to work together bringing a new account into the firm. They also are told that only one of them will become partner. At the beginning this is devastating news to both of them because they have worked extremely hard to achieve partnership position. Later, this makes for very funny reading as we see both characters trying to get the upper hand. The gloves are off and all is permitted during war ...or is it ..love??
Enjoyed it tremendously!
This is my first Julie James book, but it won't be my last. She is added to my contemporary writers as a must read.

Death's Rival (Jane Yellowrock #5) by Faith Hunter
Jane, our little Vampire Hunter is still working for Leo. She is now sent to two different states to retrieve blood samples from sick vampires.
A new master is getting vampires under his wing, if they don't plegde to him, they get infected with a disease that can kill them.
During these two trips, Jane is attacked. Again, Beast comes to the rescue.
As Leo's Enforcer she is to have a blood Bond with Leo. She is trying to avoid this.
Jane decides to hire two guys to form her own team. The older brother, Eli is a fighter and he shows some interest in Jane. The younger brother is a geek tech guy.
At the end Jane may need to confront the New Master, but can she survive this fight?
As much as I like this series, I was disappointed with Jane's unresolved love life- I mean how many guys have showed interest in her. Rick (who could infect her), Bruiser (who is under Leo's dominance) Leo (who is a bastard in this book) and now Eli. I may wait until the series is done to read the rest otherwise I may throw my Kindle to the wall the next time Jane doesn't know who she wants.
Beast on the other hand is darn smart. Jane should listen to Beast for a change.
Spoiler Fangalert: Leo forcing the bond on her is callous and worse is that he uses poor Bruiser to hurt Jane. One sentence Bruiser is awesome the next Bruiser is forcing her to do something she doesn't want. I think Jane needs to pack her bags and leave forever. No money is worth it. Saying that I still like Bruiser better than Rick.

Raven Cursed (Jane Yellowrock #4) by Faith Hunter
4th book
This installment begins with Jane going to Asheville, NC as a bodyguard. She is taking care of the security between the meetings involving Gregoire, sent by the MOC from New Orleans (Leo Pellissier) and the master vampire who wants his own clan to claim a territory.
Also, Evil Evie is making deals and using her powers for no good. This puts a strain in Jane's friendship with Molly.
Also, she is dealing with Rick's betrayal and at the same time trying to help him shift. He may die if she doesn't find a way to help him.
Worse of all there are rogue werewolves on a killing spree. They are trying to get Jane's attention. So in her spare time, Jane is helping the police find the rogues. Her life is in danger multiple times but thanks to Beast she always has an ace up her sleeve.
Let's just say that I found this book lacking something...hmmm...oh I know- BRUISER. Why can't we get more Bruiser. I know Jane is probably going to end up with Rick, but I want Jane to explore her relationship with Bruiser further. As secondary characters, the twins did a great job.

Greer Lothrop is a young psychologist who works for a lingerie company as an analyst. She has all the right curves, unfortunately that has made her life difficult.
Early in life she decided to start playing motherly towards men to distract them from her looks. This has worked for many years.
Recently, she started having prank calls and she could only hear the other person breath on the line. The phone calls are getting to her. Tying to run away from her apartment, she finds herself at the stairs. This is how she meets her new neighbor Ryan McCullough. They strike a conversation. Greer tells him about the Breather. He goes back into the apartment with her and leaves when he is sure she is doing better.
Ryan is very competent and decides that his new neighbor needs protection. They seek each others company after that day. Greer doesn't know what to do with Ryan. He doesn't fall for her mother hen act.
This is a cute little book. I just thought that a psychologist wouldn't have so many insecurities about her own body.
