The Beast of Clan Kincaid (Clan Kincaid #1)
by Lily Blackwood

A Highland warrior battles to reclaim his birthright in the first of a new series filled with seduction, revenge, and soul-stirring passion…

They call him the Beast—a hardened mercenary whose heart seems as cold as his icy blue gaze. They do not know his true name: Niall Braewick, son of the Laird of Kincaid. It has been years since he escaped into the forest the night his father was murdered. Now he has returned, ablaze with a vengeful hunger. He will gain the MacClaren chief’s trust, gather his clan, and take back his lands. And take the MacClaren’s daughter as well…

Though he pulled her from the river, saving her life, Elspeth has been warned to keep her distance from her father’s hired warrior. He is a barbarian—a shame, as he is far more compelling than the lechers and fools competing for her dowry. Little does she know that, like the castle itself, she is a prize Niall intends to claim…but will he extract blood for blood and possess what is his, or will his enemy’s beautiful, innocent daughter tempt him to forsake his dream of conquest?

The first chapter of this book drew me in right away. I thought the author did a great job at creating a prologue that pulled me in and made me excited to read the rest of the book. I was looking forward to seeing Niall try to conquer his enemies and fall in love, but some parts of that fell flat for me.

The romance was a little hard for me to get behind. I felt like the attraction between the characters had a major case of insta-lust. In the case of this book, it didn't work for me. I thought the romance felt rushed. I wanted it to be a slower burn, especially because of the history Elspeth and Niall's families have with each other. I thought the romance kind of made the book feel slow at times, because the romance didn't feel extremely genuine. At times, the romance almost felt repetitive.

I thought Elspeth's inner dialogue on her relationship with Niall seemed realistic, but I thought she was way too forgiving. I don't want to spoil anything, but I thought she should have been angrier at Niall for longer after something that happened in the book. Niall's feelings for Elspeth felt overwhelming and they ended up feeling unrealistic. All that being said, Niall and Elspeth did have some sweet moments and they had intense chemistry!

As main characters, I thought Elspeth and Niall were good main characters. My only real complaints about them were their feelings for each other, which I talked about earlier. Other than that, I liked them! I loved how fierce and badass Niall was. I liked how kindhearted and sweet Elspeth was. I enjoyed being inside their heads. I also really liked the cast of side characters. I am hoping to learn more about them in future books!

Overall, this was an enjoyable book, especially for a debut novel! The only main issue I had with this book was the romance that felt rushed and a little hard to believe. I would have liked the romance to have developed at a slower pace. I thought the author's writing flowed well and I enjoyed the world she created. The characters were all interesting, and I am excited to see where the author takes them.

Katarina wasn’t afraid of Baden. Not anymore.

He took a step to the side, intending to move around her. Oh, no. She flattened her hands on his shoulders, keeping him in place.

“I want to know what’s wrong with you.” She said. “Tell me.”

He snapped his teeth at her in a show of dominance. “You think you want to know my problem. You’re wrong.”

Her tone dry, she said, “I’m so glad you know my mind better than I do.”

“Very well. I need sex.” He threw the words at her as if they were weapons. “Badly.”
Whoa. Blindside!

Heart pounding, she jerked her hands away from him. “Sex...from me?”

“Yesss.” A hiss. “Only from you.”
Only. Amazing how one little word could send pleasure soaring through her, warming her. “You told me never to touch you.” Which she’d just done, she realized. My bad.

“I’ve changed my mind.” His gaze dropped, lingered on her lips.

Burning her... “But you and I...we’re a different species.” As if that mattered to her body. Gimme!

He took a step closer, invading her personal space.  “We’ll fit, I promise you.”

Tristo hrmenych! The raspy quality of his voice, all smoke and gravel...she shivered with longing. Must resist his allure.

But...but...why? Before she’d committed to Peter, she’d dated around, had made out in movie theaters, cars and on couches. She’d liked kissing and touching and “riding the belt buckle,” as her friends had called it. Then, after committing to Peter, she’d gifted him with her virginity. At first, he hadn’t known what to do with her—he’d been just as inexperienced—and she’d left each encounter disappointed. When finally she’d gathered the courage to tell him what she wanted, he’d satisfied her well.

She missed sex. But connection...intimacy...she thought she missed those more

The dogs barked, jolting her from her thoughts. They’d cleaned their food bowls, and now wanted to play. She clasped Baden’s hand to lead him out of the kennel. He jerked away, severing contact.
One action. Tons of hurt.

“I’m allowed to touch you and you want to have sex with me, but you’re still disgusted by me.” She stomped outside the kennel, done with him. “Well, I’m leaving. Good riddance! Your do-what-I-say-or-else attitude was annoying, anyway.”

He darted in front of her, stopping her. Breath caught in her throat as sunlight streamed over him, paying his chiseled features absolute tribute, making his bronzed skin glimmer.

So beautiful. Too beautiful.

“I’m not disgusted by you. You need me. I’ve come to accept it,” he admitted, looking away from her. “But being skin-to-skin with another is painful for me. We’ll have to proceed carefully. And you’ll get over your annoyance.”

Another order!  She would show him the error of his ways.

The Ghost by Monica McCarty

Title: The Ghost
Series: Highland Guard #12
Author: Monica McCarty
Release Date: May 31, 2016
Publisher: Pocket Books

Joan Comyn swore allegiance to Robert the Bruce the day she witnessed England’s barbarous king torturing her famous mother, Scot patriot Bella MacDuff. Now the mysterious beauty slips into men’s hearts like a specter and entices England’s most illustrious barons to unwittingly divulge their secrets, then shares them with her king. Known only as the Ghost even among her Highland Guard brethren, Joan has become the most wanted spy in England.

The man determined to uncover her identity poses her biggest threat yet. Alex Seton once stood with Bruce but now fights for the enemy. Though Joan knows she must avoid the handsome warrior or risk discovery, his knightly chivalry touches a place in her long since buried. When his suspicions grow apparent, Joan realizes she must do everything in her power to stop Alex from revealing her mission and convince the powerful fighter to join forces with the Highland Guard once more. But as the ultimate battle in the great war approaches, will Alex chose love or honor?

I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Ghost. I love how Monica McCarty is able to mix history with fiction. When I'm reading her books I'm transported to the time period and experiencing their ordeals.

I was sad to learn this book was the end to the series but I can tell you that I'm very pleased with the outcome.

I was surprised a lady turned out to be the Ghost but after thinking it through, it made complete sense. Joan Comyn was daring and loyal to the Bruce's cause. She wanted to decimate the people who had hurt her mother, Bella MacDuff, years past. As the spy for the Highland Guard, she was determined to do anything in her power to get the information the Bruce needed. It didn't matter that she was risking her own life every time she approached the English men.

Alex Seton was trying to do the best he could to stop a war between Bruce and the English. Alex was half English and had the blood of a knight. He left the Highland Guard because he disagreed with their methods. Raiding and killing was not want he wanted to do. By joining the English, he was  just trying to achieve piece.  However, when Joan's life is in danger, he wanted nothing else than to save her. She was everything to him and he was ready to fight for her, even if she was the spy he was trying to uncover.

The Ghost is the perfect combination of historic facts and intrigue. Both characters are likable. Alex was sincere, honorable and a perfect gentleman. Joan was daring, smart and loyal. I couldn't be happier with the epilogue.

I wonder what is next for Ms. McCarty.

At This Moment by Karen Cimms

Sometimes life gives you what you need, even if you don’t believe you deserve it.

Kate Daniels wants it all—a big, crazy life, lots of kids, and an adoring husband. Someday. For now, she’ll be happy just to survive her first semester of college. Billy McDonald wants it all, too. Since the day he got his first guitar, he’s had one goal—to prove he’s worth something. His dream is so close, he can almost touch it.

Thrown together during a freak snowstorm, Kate and Billy’s lives become permanently entwined. On the outside, they have nothing in common, but scars aren’t always visible and abuse doesn’t always leave a mark. Kate keeps the pain of her past buried, while Billy carries his like a weapon.

In spite of finding love, Billy continues to be haunted by his childhood and tempted by the excesses of the music industry. He struggles to keep his career on track and his inner demons at bay, until one night, he makes a mistake that could cost him everything. Kate may have found her happily ever after, but for Billy, the nightmare has just begun.

Set against a backdrop of heavy metal and emerging grunge, At This Moment is the first book in the Of Love and Madness trilogy. A love story that unfolds over twenty-five years, it’s the tale of two damaged people trying to make their way in the world without destroying themselves or each other in the process.

Billy didn’t say a word when he picked them up at the subway station, and he did little more than grunt when he dropped Joey off at his station a few blocks later. He remained quiet as they drove through Brooklyn, over the Williamsburg Bridge, and into Lower Manhattan. Kate tried several times to engage him in conversation, but he just stared straight ahead, saying nothing.
After they pulled into the parking lot behind their apartment, he turned off the van and sat drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. She waited until he got out, then followed, expecting to help carry his bags.
“I got it,” he snapped.
“Fine.” It was her turn to get angry. She’d only agreed to do this video because of him. Plus it was his idea—or Christa’s, the little blond weasel—that no one know they were a couple. It wasn’t her fault she caused a stir. Not totally.
She bolted ahead, letting the door slam shut as he approached, and stomped up the stairs and down the hall to their apartment. Throwing her bag on the couch, she went into the bathroom to take off her makeup.
When she came out, Billy was sitting on the bed.
“You think you’re pretty funny, don’t you?”
“Me? I think I’m hilarious.”
As she stormed past him, Billy grabbed her by the hand and pulled her into his lap, locking his arms around her. She sat stiffly, staring straight ahead, her jaw tight, not willing to look at him.
“I’m sorry,” he said finally, pressing his forehead into her shoulder. “I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at me.”
“That makes two of us.”
“I’m an idiot. I shouldn’t have talked you into this, and I shouldn’t have agreed to keep you a secret.”
“Are you saying that because you didn’t like Bailey hitting on me or the other guys looking at me?”
“I didn’t like any of it. I also didn’t like you having to walk in without me and leave without me, even with Joey—who hates me, by the way.”
“He doesn’t hate you.”
He snorted. “I’ll call Christa tomorrow. Tell her we’re not doing this.”
“The video?”
“No. That we have to do. But I’m not making believe we’re not a couple. I don’t see the need for it. I’m not in this for the women. I’m a musician, not a gigolo.”
“You don’t want to be both?”
He shook his head.
“Aww,” she purred. “Too bad.”
He looked up, surprised. “What does that mean?”
“You’ll see.”

Demand by Lisa Renee Jones

Title: Demand
Series: Careless Whispers #2
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Release Date: May 31, 2016
Publisher: Gallery Books

The sexy, breathtaking mystery continues in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones’s stunning second novel in the suspenseful Careless Whispers series—where shocking revelations will reveal themselves and nothing, and no one, will ever be the same.

Still struggling with amnesia, Ella questions everything she’s known about Kayden Wilkens—the alluring stranger who claims to have found her unconscious in an alleyway a month earlier. But was he truly a stranger—or did Kayden know her before his supposed rescue? Tormented by the potential betrayal he denies, with fleeting memories of a bombshell in her recent past, Ella must face a hard reality. Every action has consequences . . . and trusting Kayden, the one thing she most desires, might result in the direst consequences of all.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, whose searing novels generate “enough heat . . . to start a fire” (RT Book Reviews), dares you to fall in love with her irresistibly surprising and sexy new series.

Demand is the second book in the Careless Whispers's series.

When Denial ended we weren't sure if Kayden was trustworthy. Demand has the answer pretty early on.

Lisa Renee Jones is great at creating intrigue and suspense in her novels. There's always romance and sexy times too. Demand has the same signature. You are never sure who you can trust and who is hiding something big. Although, I think I can finally trust Kayden. I hope he doesn't disappoint me in Surrender, which comes out in November.

Ella has not recovered her memory completely but she does get flashbacks. The flashbacks are taking us closer to the identity of Him. By the end of this book, we are almost certain we know who Him is. What we don't know is who Ella really is...
So many questions, so many possibilities are left open for us. I'm dying to know!

Kayden is perfect in Demand. He wants nothing more than to keep Ella alive. He doesn't care that she might end up being his enemy. He just knows that she comes before the Underground, his job and his revenge. He's willing to make alliances with his enemies just to protect her.

I do believe the best part is yet to come.

Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst

Title: Everywhere and Every Way
Series: Billionaire Builders #1
Author: Jennifer Probst
Release Date: May 31, 2016
Publisher: Pocket Books

Hot on the heels of her beloved Marriage to a Billionaire novels, New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst nails it with the first in an all-new sexy romance series featuring red-hot contractor siblings who give the Property Brothers a run for their money!

Ever the responsible eldest brother, Caleb Pierce started working for his father’s luxury contracting business at a young age, dreaming of one day sitting in the boss’s chair. But his father’s will throws a wrench in his plans by stipulating that Caleb share control of the family business with his two estranged brothers.

Things only get more complicated when demanding high-end home designer Morgan hires Caleb to build her a customized dream house that matches her specifications to a T—or she’ll use her powerful connections to poison the Pierce brothers’ reputation. Not one to ignore a challenge, Caleb vows to get the job done—if only he can stop getting distracted by his new client’s perfect…amenities.

But there’s more to icy Morgan than meets the eye. And Caleb’s not the only one who knows how to use a stud-finder. In fact, Morgan is pretty sure she’s found hers—and he looks quite enticing in a hard hat. As sparks fly between Morgan and Caleb despite his best intentions not to mix business and pleasure, will she finally warm up and help him lay the foundation for everlasting love?

Caleb Pierce has dedicated his life to the family business even if this included throwing his relationship with his brothers to the trash.

To his shock when his father passes, his last stipulation is to work alongside his brothers or they can all kiss their family business goodbye. He knows he has to convince them to stay but this is not an easy task when there is so much resentment still very much alive.

To makes matter worse, Morgan Raines appears in his life and she won't take no for an answer. She wants the Pierce brothers to build the home for her new Hollywood clients and she won't think twice about playing dirty to get what she wants.

What neither of them was expecting was their attraction for each other. The more their preconceived ideas about each other turn out false, the more intrigued they are about one another. It's hard to work with each other without starting to think about wanting more.

I liked the beginning of this new series, I'm a huge fan of Jennifer's work and I wasn't going to miss the chance to read it early. Her books are fun to read. Her characters are full of spark, funny lines, great banter and sexy times. Everywhere and Every Way had her winning combination. Caleb was a total alpha male but he was not scared of apologizing. When he was with Morgan, she was the only one who mattered.

The best part is that I already know I'm going to like the next few books in this series since I like the other two brothers already.

Bring them on!

Caleb and his two younger brothers were inseparable as children. Groomed to one day run the family’s luxury contracting business, Caleb and his brothers were always pressured and under appreciated for their skill set, which caused a huge wedge between the brothers.

When Caleb’s father dies and he finds out his will has been changed Caleb is shocked. He must run the family business for one year with his estranged brothers. If they can’t show that they made a sizable profit for the year, the business will be dissolved.

Caleb thinks it should be pretty easy to make a profit, until he runs into Morgan Raines. Morgan is a high-end home designer and her current customers want Pierce Brothers to create their dream home. Morgan stops at nothing to make sure Caleb and his brothers agree to work with her. And obviously, with two alpha control freaks, sparks will fly.

I LOVED this book. Jennifer Probst is the master at writing stories that make you laugh out loud and just FEEL! She’s also the master at creating strong, alpha, bada** female characters.

Morgan is confident in what she wants. She has a past that she’s made peace with and is determined to be the best designer she can be. She doesn’t take no for an answer and she’s not afraid to take what she wants. So I absolutely loved when she and Caleb, who is a total gentleman but also doesn’t take no for an answer, start bumping heads. It leads to sparks and fireworks!

One other thing that I have really come to enjoy in a Jennifer Probst novel is that the theme of family is really magnified. There is always a strong sense of loyalty and love even through the family complications. The sentiment that family is the most important thing in life is always present.

I can’t recommend any novel by Jennifer Probst enough. EVERYWHERE AND EVERY WAY had me laughing and crying within a few pages time. Jennifer is always on my automatic read list and I know I’ll always be satisfied when I finish a story by her.

The Underground Kings Series
by Aurora Rose Reynolds

underground kings sale 3.jpg

The Underground Kings Series by Aurora Rose Reynolds is NOW ON SALE!

If you have not met Kenton, Kai or Sven yet,

(Each book can be read as a standalone)

a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof

They say when you assume that you make an ass out of you and me.

Kenton Mayson learned this lesson firsthand when he made assumptions about Autumn Freeman and the kind of woman she is based on what little information he had. What he finds out is she’s not only beautiful, but also smart, funny, a fighter, and exactly the kind of woman he wants to share his life with.

Autumn made assumptions of her own about Kenton, and now he needs to prove her wrong in order to protect her and their future.

Assumption (Book One)

[ob-li-gey-shuh n]
An obligation is a course of action that someone is required to take, whether legal or moral.

At six years old, Myla was sent to a family her father and mother had chosen for her when they knew their time on earth was almost up. What they were unaware of was what they thought would be her safe haven would become her living hell.

Kai has been watching Myla from afar since he took over the family business from his father and inherited the responsibility of keeping her safe. When word gets back to Kai that Myla is not only in danger, but that his assets are being compromised, he immediately jumps into action and does the only thing that can be done at the time by marrying her.

Neither Myla nor Kai would have thought that something that started off as a farce would become the most important thing either of them could've ever done.

Obligation (Book Two)

Distraction: The great intensity, novelty, or attractiveness of something other than the object of attention.

Sven is a man who takes pride in his ability to separate himself from his emotions. He's a man who knows who he is and where he’s going in life, a man who needs no one, because needing someone, anyone, is a weakness.

His past taught him love isn’t enough.

Maggie wants the happily ever after, but has never picked the right men, or stuck around long enough, to build a forever. It’s always been easier to get out early, before emotions make things messy.
When Maggie wakes up naked in Sven’s bed, with no memory of the night before, these two must be honest about their feelings and face their fears, so they can build a future together.

Will love be enough for them to get their happy ending together, or will a threat from outside strike them down before they ever have a chance?

Distraction (Book Three)

Aurora Rose Reynolds is a navy brat who's husband served in the United States Navy. She has lived all over the country but now resides in New York City with her Husband and pet fish. She's married to an alpha male that loves her as much as the men in her books love their women. He gives her over the top inspiration everyday. In her free time she reads, writes and enjoys going to the movies with her husband and cookie. She also enjoys taking mini weekend vacations to nowhere, or spends time at home with friends and family. Last but not least she appreciates everyday and admires it's beauty.
