Prince's Gambit (Captive Prince #2)
by C.S. Pacat

The second novel in the critically acclaimed trilogy from global phenomenon C. S. Pacat—with an all-new chapter exclusive to the print edition.

With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his new master, Prince Laurent, must exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.

Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow…

This book. Oh my gosh...THIS BOOK. Holy moly...the emotions that I felt while reading this book...

It is save to say that I am obsessed with this book and this series. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would.

The world, plot, characters, and politics Pacat has created are all so intriguing. There was a lot more plot development in this book compared to book one. I felt like this book had the perfect balance of action, treachery, sexual tension, banter, and plot twists. Those things mixed with Pacat's exquisite writing style made this book AMAZING. I could not put it down.

One of the best parts of this book was seeing Laurent play everyone like they were a pawn in his game of chest. He always has something up his sleeve, and I love that about him. He is just so fascinating to read about. Laurent has so many layers to him, and watching Damen peel away those layers was so satisfying. Speaking of Damen, he was just as perfect as ever. He is still just as loyal and determined as he was in book one. Watching both him and Laurent grow made my heart so happy. Pacat is the queen of character development.

The romance in this book killed me. Some of the sexual tension between Damen and Laurent came to a head, and HOT DANG. It was intense.

Pacat knows how to write a slow burning romance that is explosive. The sexual tension was through the roof in this book, but Damen and Laurent have so much more than physical chemistry. The way they opened up to each other and leaned on each other is beautiful. Watching them over come their differences and work together was nothing short of perfection. I absolutely adore them together.

The ending of this book left me speechless. I couldn't believe that Pacat just ended it like that! I needed more! I could read about Damen and Laurent's world forever.

Pacat can do no wrong.

5 / 5 Fangs
