Kings Rising (Captive Prince #3)
by C.S. Pacat

The epic conclusion to the internationally acclaimed Captive Prince trilogy.

Damianos of Akielos has returned.

His identity now revealed, Damen must face his master Prince Laurent as Damianos of Akielos, the man Laurent has sworn to kill.

On the brink of a momentous battle, the future of both their countries hangs in the balance. In the south, Kastor’s forces are massing. In the north, the Regent’s armies are mobilising for war. Damen’s only hope of reclaiming his throne is to fight together with Laurent against their usurpers.

Forced into an uneasy alliance the two princes journey deep into Akielos, where they face their most dangerous opposition yet. But even if the fragile trust they have built survives the revelation of Damen’s identity – can it stand against the Regent’s final, deadly play for the throne?

It is almost impossible for me to review this book without just rambling on and on about how much I adored it. I don't know why it took by so long to read these books. These books have changed my life.

I was nervous going into this book, because I wasn't sure how everything was going to wrap up. I also have the biggest expectations for the final book in any series, and I didn't want this book to let me down. Sure enough, Pacat didn't let me down. Actually, Pacat exceeded my expectations. This book had everything I wanted, and more. Pacat is a queen who deserves a round of applause.

The writing style of this book was as enchanting and mesmerizing as always. Pacat's writing style is like no other. She is so great at weaving in political intrigue without it ever being boring. The action in this book had me on the edge of my seat. I was constantly worried for the safety of my precious Laurent and Damen. The plot was exciting and it kept me glued to the book. There were a lot of plot twists that I didn't see coming (usually thanks to my baby Laurent). I actually gasped out loud during one event at the end that I'm not going to spoil!

Now the best parts of this book for me were the characters and the romance. I don't know if I can accurately put into words how much I love Laurent and Damen. Both characters have been developed so beautifully, especially in this book. What I like about their character development is that they don't necessarily change, it's more like they become better versions on themselves. I loved discovering more and more layers to each character. They are just fantastically written characters. I am so attached to them.

The romance between Laurent and Damen KILLS me to think about. They are just so perfect together. There were so many wonderful scenes between them in this book. I loved how much they were there for each other emotionally. They supported each other A LOT. They had some super steamy scenes, but they also had scenes of adorableness. It was so cute to see Laurent be snarky to others, but then be sweet and romantic with Damen. Damen was a big tough guy to everyone else, but he basically turned into romantic mush with Laurent. They are so precious together!

"What?" Damen was smiling

"You're very," said Laurent, and then, flushing, "attractive."

"Really," said Damen, in a rich, warm voice.

"Yes," said Laurent.

I could continue to rave and rave about this book. This was exactly the ending I wanted to this series. I cannot get over how amazing this book was. The ending of this book left me in a puddle of happy tears. I cannot believe this series is over. I don't know what am I going to do without Laurent and Damen in my life.

If you haven't read this book yet then you need to stop everything you are doing and pick it up immediately.

5 / 5 Fangs
