When I Was Yours by Samantha Towle

“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”

What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?

Of course, I said yes.

Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.

Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.

I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.

Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.

Answers I can’t give.

This is a second chance romance.

Evie, our heroine, is dedicated to her family. Her dad was in an accident, making him disabled and unable to provide for his family. Evie's sister was diagnosed with cancer, but she is now in remission. Evie works hard to keep up with the bills and put food on their table. Meeting Adam gives her hope and happiness. She can't believe Adam wants to spend time with her. Their time together is special and it's almost enough to make her forget how busy her life is.

Adam and Evie met at the beach where Evie liked to sketch. He was renting a place with his best friend. At the beginning, he would just watch her from afar, obsessing about her. When he finally got the courage to approach her, he is surprised at how much he enjoys talking to her. Soon, they are in love and want to get married until Evie disappears without leaving any clues of where she has gone. Years later, they meet again. Adam has so much anger and he knows Evie is hiding something from him.

I wanted to love this book. I'm a huge fan of The Storm series. Unfortunately, I liked the story but I didn't love it. I thought most of plot was predictable. There was no real mystery.

Cliffhanger: No

3/5 Fangs
