MrsLeif's Review
Alexa "Lexie" Holland had her world come down on her after the passing of her mother. She's not close to her father after learning about his many lies and despicable behavior which affected the people around him. Indirectly, the person he hurts the most is Caine Carraway.

Caine Carraway built his empire by pure determination. Succeeding is his main goal. When he meets Alexa, he likes what he sees until Alexa reveals whom she really is. After that, he wants nothing more than to stay away from her but Alexa is relentless and giving up on trying to erase the sins of her father he ends up making her his new personal assistant.

Working together will not be easy.

My thoughts:

Samantha Young is a solid author. She wrote one of my favorite books On Dublin Street (I'm still waiting on the movie). I was so excited to read Hero because she never disappoints me. And disappoint me, she did not. Alexa was funny, sassy, she was stubborn and determined. She never gave up on Caine. She knew she could help and she did. Caine was sexy, and pure alpha. Most of the book I wanted to throw something at him for his behavior but I also found myself trying to protect him, especially when he showed us his softer side. I love their banter and their chemistry.
I'm really hoping we get another book from this world. After all, his BFF needs a book too.

Cliffhanger: No

Alexa Holland’s life has been anything but normal.  She always thought her dad was a “hero” until his true colors we revealed and she realized he was nothing but a monster.   Three months after her mother died, Alexa is back to work as the PA of a famous photographer.  That’s where she meets Caine Carraway.  That’s where her life get’s even harder.

Caine Carraway has worked his ass off to get to where he is today.  He is one of the most successful businessmen in Boston.  When he meets Alexa at the photo shoot he wants her badly, until he discovers who she is.   Caine is determined to ruin her life.  What he doesn’t realize is that hiring her as his personal PA will change both of their lives forever.

I may be a little obsessed with this book.  Samantha Young is a natural storyteller and she sucks you into her fictional world with no hesitation.  From the first chapter I was so intrigued by this mysterious man and broken woman.  Despite her broken past, Alexa proves to be such a strong character and doesn’t put up with any of Caine’s crap.

“You start acting like a child and I will make the next two weeks an absolute misery for you.

I sighed and said, infusing boredom into my voice, “Is that before or after you huff and puff and blow my house down?”

There were so many times I just had to put the book down and laugh.  The banter between Alexa and Caine was so entertaining.  Alexa has such a smart mouth.

“Well, in comparison to what poor Ms. Kenilworth is facing if she upset you, you’re an absolute prince to me.  I have had no such threats of asshole ripping.”

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.  You won’t be disappointed.

4 'smart-ass' stars!

I flew through the pages of this book. It had so many of the things that make a story great for me. . . off-the-charts chemistry, insane amounts of tension and hilarious banter!

Alexa and Caine meet at a photo shoot and let's just say, it doesn't go well. Their families have history and it isn't anything that Caine can look past. He's the CEO of Carraway Financial and pretty influential in Boston. When he fires Alexa's boss and demands a new photographer, she ends up getting jobless. Alexa is sympathetic to the pain her father caused Caine's family, but she isn't going to put up with him getting her fired. So she shows up at his office unannounced and demands that he gets her job back. Instead, he convinces her to be his PA. And it's hell for her, right from the start.

"I fantasize about fucking you in this office a hundred times a day."

There's a connection between them that everyone can see. Caine's best friend Henry and his pseudo grandmother, Effie, even try to play matchmaker. It's a delicious mix of sexual tension and smart-ass comments between the two of them that ultimately lead to a sexy surrender. For Caine it can't be anything more than just sex. Something is holding him back from being Alexa's hero. But she isn't so quick to give up on him. Through all the ups and downs, she steady in her resolve to make him see that they are more than just AMAZING sex.

"Say you're mine. Right here, right now, you're mine."

I don't know why I haven't read more of Samantha Young's books. She is so great at creating tense and sexy situations between her characters. Her words sucked me into the story and I couldn't let go. My only issue was the last 20%. I felt that there was too much crammed in at the end and Caine's secret just didn't fit the story. I wish she would have left that part out. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from her!
