If you have read other books in the series, you know Penni and Jackal's story has been in the works for a while now. Jackal was responsible for kidnapping Penni in a prior book and she has not forgiven him for it. Since Jackal met Penni, no one else compares to her. He wants her with him and he's going to do everything is his power to make her his. 

When Penni is taken by another club, Jackal's protective instinct jumps to the roof. He is willing to do anything for her. But, we all know what Penni's brother is capable of doing and Jackal will have to deal with Shade to keep her. 

Now, to the bad news: 

I was so excited for another one of Jamie Begley's books since I'm a huge fan of her MC world. However, I didn't love this book as I thought I was going to. Penni was not the smart chick I thought she was. She was constantly dismissing or pushing Jackal away. I didn't buy it when she finally realizes who she really liked. For that matter, Jackal didn't behave like an Enforcer of an MC club. He was weak. I didn't feel a true connection to this couple which makes me super sad.

The thing that saved this book for me was The Last Riders. Once we got to Treepoint, I was happy to see Lily, Beth, Diamond, Sex Piston, and their guys. 

I do hope Killyama and Train's book is better.

Stand Off (Predators MC #2) by Jamie Begley

Casey Harris is determined to infiltrate the Predators and to bring them to justice. She believes her way in is through her stepbrother Max. She has been dating Jayce but she realizes she needs to break it off before she begins her plans with Max. Her deception has to appear real. 

Max doesn’t understand his need to protect Casey. She is stuck up, rude and is nothing like her mother. When he finds out she is working late nights, he makes himself responsible for her safety. 

Max’s love life is a mess. He has four children from four different women. It seems that after six months he gets tired of the relationship and they part still as friends.  Now, he wants Casey and it’s hard to turn down what she is offering. 

“..don’t forget dessert.”

“For the kids or you?”

“Get the kids the chocolate cake. I already know what I’m having for dessert.”

But, what happens when he realizes the truth?

I say it again. I love Jamie Begley’s MC world. All her books have characters that cross over. 

Max was great. He was no cheater. He would rather break things off as friends than betray someone. He always felt protective towards Casey, despite her continuously giving him the cold shoulder. He was also loyal to the club. 

Casey was ready to sacrifice everything to achieve her goal. She was very smart and she was nice to Max’s kids. Her life has not been easy and I kind of knew what the big reveal was going to be.

As always, there are funny scenes too. Max's real name was awful, LOL.

“Are you sick?”

“No.” Jackal had been standing next to Ice. “Why?”

Penni shrugged. “You looked like you were going to puke.”

Max nudged Jackal with his elbow. “I told you not to smile.”

I do feel like the steamy scenes were lacking. 

I hope Penni and Jackal come out soon. 

“I’m here, and that’s all she’s ever going to need.”

Grace Andrews is dreading her next assignment. She has been told that she must teach the next class at the local prison. She has no choice but to follow through with it. From the first moment she sees Ice, she knows she's in trouble. Even when Ice pushes her away, she keeps on coming back.

Ice, the Predators MC President, wants nothing more than to be out of prison and he was hoping nothing will deter him from his plan but the leggy teacher keeps on making him lose his cool.
When a situation throws them together, neither can deny their attraction for each other anymore. The plan has changed and now survival is a must.

I must confess that my love for Jamie Begley's world is enormous. I love all her different series and how all her characters are intertwined.
Ice was a true alpha but he never made me think he was controlling. He recognized his attraction to Grace and he moved forward. He gave her space when she needed it and he took it away when it was unnecessary.
Grace had a tough experience but she had the love of her family. Yes, they could be over protective but they truly cared for her.  Dax Andrews, her brother intrigues me and I hope he gets a book too.

In Riot we get a cameo of Colton & Vida, Sawyer & Kaden and Ax. King is mentioned too.

I can't wait for Penni and Jackal's book and I wonder if Ax and Alec are getting a book too.
You, see this is what I mean, the more characters she introduces the more I want to read about them. Usually, when an author adds too many characters it gets confusing and maybe boring. This is not the case with Jamie's books.

“There is no one else, Grace,” Ross’s voice softened. “The guards will be in the classroom with you the whole time. The college can’t afford to lose the revenue from the prison. How could we anticipate Mattie falling and breaking her hip? She’s taught the classes there the last five years. It’s a good program, helping a lot of men turn their lives around.”

“I don’t care. If they’re in prison, that’s where they deserve to be. They can stay there as far as I’m concerned,” Grace snapped.

“You don’t believe that.”

“Yes, I do,” she insisted.

“You’re the most kindhearted woman I know. How many dogs have you fostered?”

“That’s beside the point.”

“You volunteer for every cause.”

“You’re not going to change my mind, Ross.” Grace turned her head away, unable to stare at him any longer. He wasn’t only her boss; they had become friends during the five years she had worked at the small college. During her first year, he had attempted to date her, but when he had seen she wasn’t going to change her mind, they had become good friends. Now, he was engaged to another colleague who taught in the English department. “Hire someone else.”

“There’s not enough money in the budget. We had trouble barely keeping both you and CeCe. If you can’t do it, one of you will have to go, and I’ll have to hire someone willing to teach the class at the prison until Mattie can return.”

She had been here the shortest amount of time. CeCe had been here six years. Before last semester, CeCe had been the perfect instructor, though. Grace didn’t want her fired, either.

Grace swallowed hard. “I can’t do it, Ross. I just can’t.”

About the Author

I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.

Taking after my mother, I've always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.

For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who both graduated this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.

Currently I am writing five series of books- The Last Riders, The VIP Room, Predators MC, Biker Bitches, and The Dark Souls.

All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.
