I just recently read the first book in this series, "From Gods", and was lucky enough to be able to read the sequel, "From Deities". Before I read this book, I had really high hopes for it. I am happy to say this book exceeded my expectations, which I did not think could happen. I absolutely loved the first book, but I think I liked this one even more! They say that lightning doesn't strike twice, but I think Mary Ting just proved that theory wrong.

This book picks up right where the first book left off. There is plenty of action, mystery, romance, humor, and more that kept me glued to my Kindle. There was not one time where I felt myself bored and just skimming the pages. I was enthralled with this book. I do not want to talk about the plot very much because I am afraid I will give away some spoilers. What I can say is that Skylar and her friends went through a heck of a roller coaster ride, and I can't wait to see how they handle it in the next book. Skylar starts to develop some powers, and I am really intrigued to see more of that develop in the future.

“Everett, stand behind us,” I ordered. I didn’t mean to sound forceful and demanding, but his life was at stake. The vultures could seriously hurt him with their bolts. As Nick and I fought back with our lights standing side by side, Everett managed to stay behind us.

I could tell from the way they maneuvered and worked as a team that this group of vultures was smarter. Not only that, their lights moved like whips. Whack! Whack! Shit! One lashed across my shirt and burnt through it. Then I wondered if I could move my light like them. Before I could try, the five vultures joined their bolts into one, and it was coming straight for us.

“Shit!” Nick yelled, combining his light with mine. “Theirs is so much bigger and brighter. Can we take them?” Our light hit theirs, creating a massive spark of light, blinding our visions. The impact caused individual lights to shoot out.

“Hell, yes.”

Feeling like more distance was between Sky and me, I became desperate. I didn’t care if I burnt down this forest. I was going to get to Sky…now. What I was about to do next would drain me, but it was the only thing I could think of.

All the characters in this book were just as phenomenal as they were in the first book. We were introduced to some new characters that I liked as well. At first I thought there was going to be a love triangle, but I was happy to discover that nothing separated Mason and Skylar in this book. The romance in this book was even better than the first book. There were really sweet scenes as well as scenes filled with humor and smoking hot chemistry. 

             "When Mason cupped my cheeks and planted his lips on mine, I broke out of my thoughts. 

             "I don't know how we're going to be able to sleep together without me trying anything with you. Maybe you should stay away from me, too." 

            "What if I don't want you to stay away? What if I want to go to the naughty corner? You know, I've been really bad. I think I deserve to go there." My tone was playful and so were my eyes as I smiled flirtatiously at him. Mason chuckled at first, then his eyes shifted to my lips with desire. 

             "Naughty corner it is." There was no stopping now after his tight chest exhaled a growl. He was turned on by my words. Hot wanting sensations coursed through me when Mason's lips conquered mine again. As his hands explored my body, I lost myself in him...and it was the best place to be."

One thing I really liked about the relationship between Skylar and Mason is that they trusted each other. They did not hide things from each other, and they were willing to do anything to protect the other. Skylar and Mason were both really mature and had a strong relationship. I was happy that they did not have any drama in their relationship that caused a break up. I just love them together. 

There was nothing that I disliked about this book. I think this series might be my new favorite series, it is that good. I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good paranormal romance, especially if you like the idea of demigods. This series is amazing, and I really hope everyone reads it and loves it. Please go and read this book and the first book, "From Gods". I cannot say enough how much I loved this book and the book before it. The next book does not come out until 2015. I do not know how I am going to be able to wait that long for this book. I want it now!

Mason let out a soft chuckle. “Did you just call me Mace? It sounds hot coming out of your mouth. I’ll seal the deal with my love shock.” Positioning his thumb near mine, small illuminating sparks flew out from it. They looked like small, glowing branches, yet moved like long spider legs. Slowly, he moved it closer. It sizzled and crackled first, then it wrapped around my thumb. It was the coolest sight. Where our thumbs were touching glowed. The longer the light touched me, the warmer it got in that area. Then it continued to weave from my hand down to my arm, making my arm shimmer.

Watching in awe, I gave him the biggest smile I could. Suddenly, my body jerked and I dropped my hand. “Ouch.”

Mason captured it and rubbed the area. “Shit! I’m so sorry. Sometimes I can’t control it around you.”

I formed my lips into a wicked, sexy grin. “Sometimes, I don’t want you to.”

About the Author

If I had to sum up this book in two words, I would say it was electrifyingly perfect. I am not kidding. This book was AMAZING. I loved every single moment of this book. I sat in my bed just reading this book nonstop because I was so hooked on it. I want to scream from the mountain tops "I love "From Gods" and Mary Ting". Well, that is a bit extreme, but I think you get my point. I am obsessed with this book. The storyline was so intriguing. There was mystery, action, romance, humor, and everything else in-between. I adored the demigods aspect of this book. I just was fascinated with learning about the different gods, their powers, and their offspring. Ms. Ting did a wonderful job of building the world of the demigods. 

What I loved the most about this book was the fact that every character was amazing. Every character was my favorite character. Ms. Ting did an amazing job of creating such believable characters. Each character had something unique to their personality, and I loved that. The character development was incredible. The main character of the book, Skylar, was the perfect heroine. She was kind, witty, smart, and brave. Skylar could kick booty when she needed to, but she knows when to ask for help when necessary. It was really enjoyable watching her grow into a strong young woman throughout the book. I equally loved Skylar's best friend and cousin, Kayla. Kayla is so loyal to Skylar and she would do anything to help Skylar. The scenes with Kayla never seemed to drag like scenes between best friends can sometimes in books. Instead, the scenes were always fun and entertaining. 

Now, it's time I talk about Mason. Oh lord, I love him so much. I almost cannot put into words how much I love him. If I could marry a fictional character, I would marry him, no doubt about it. His brother, Nick, is tough competition with his humor, but I just love Mason too much. Mason has gone through a lot in his life, and he puts up walls to protect himself from ever getting hurt again. Watching Skylar slowing break through those walls was beautiful. They fell in love organically; nothing seemed rushed or forced. 

              "I've missed you. I can't sleep. I can't eat. Every waking moment I think of you. Every second of my sleepless nights, you're on my mind, and if somehow I sleep, I dream of you. You're all that I can think of. I tried to stay away, but I can't. I'm sorry if I've ever hurt you or wronged you in any way. It was not my intention. I didn't want to feel again. Before you, my life was empty and cold, but you made me feel alive again, a feeling I thought was buried so deep from all the pain and loss that it would never resurface." 

As mentioned above, there was some romance in this book. Mason and Skylar's relationship was beautifully written, and romance was believable. They didn't instantly fall in love. They were instantly attracted to each other, but they fell in love over time. Mason and Skylar had some tender moments that made me melt into a puddle on the ground. I just cannot reiterate enough how much I loved their relationship. I also adored the relationship between Nick and Kayla. They were so adorable that I was smiling ear to ear anytime they had a cute moment together. Nick and Kayla had some great moments with witty banters as well as moments with smoking hot chemistry. 

         " "Mason, the reliable one, Mr. Goodboy."

         "The reliable one? Then your older brothers are not reliable?"

            "Sometimes."

            "What about you?"

           "I'm the bad boy kind." He pulled her in so fast she didn't have time to react. He conquered her lips passionately, letting her know he wanted her. "

I could go on for years and years about how much I loved this book. There was a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of the book, so I am dying to get my hands on the sequel. So, everyone please stop what you are doing and go buy this book. I guarantee this book will not disappoint.
