The One You Can't Forget by Roni Loren

Title: The One You Can't Forget
Series: The Ones Who Got Away #2
Author:  Roni Loren
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Release Date:  June 5, 2018

Most days Rebecca Lindt feels like an imposter...

The world admires her as a survivor. But that impression would crumble if people knew her secret. She didn't deserve to be the one who got away. But nothing can change the past, so she's thrown herself into her work. She can't dwell if she never slows down.

Wes Garrett is trying to get back on his feet after losing his dream restaurant, his money, and half his damn mind in a vicious divorce. But when he intervenes in a mugging and saves Rebecca―the attorney who helped his ex ruin him―his simple life gets complicated.

Their attraction is inconvenient and neither wants more than a fling. But when Rebecca's secret is put at risk, both discover they could lose everything, including what they never realized they needed: each other.

I've come to expect great things from any book by Roni Loren. She always has a strong plot with great characters who have amazing chemistry!

I was interested in learning about Rebecca's story after meeting her in The Ones Who Got Away. She had a chance to become a nuisance to Liv and Finn but she didn't. Instead, she was there to support them.

In The One You Can't Forget, Rebecca is still working long hours and helping her father with his campaign. She's a divorce lawyer who has plenty of clients and who has a good track record of winning. A decade after she became one of the survivors during the Long Acre High school shooting, she's still dealing with guilt, PTSD, and flashbacks. Getting mugged is not the way to overcome any of it. Thankfully, she is rescued by a stray dog and by Wes.

Wes Garrett is remaking his life. He lost his dream of becoming the chef in his own restaurant and all his money in an ugly divorce. This leads him to drown his sorrows in the bottle which made everything much worse for him. Now sober, he has taken a teaching job for a group of at-risk teenagers. He feels like he can make a difference in their lives and provide them with a choice to become someone productive after graduation. Meeting Rebecca wakes up a desire for a relationship. Convincing her is another matter.

I liked Rebecca and Wess together. They both had suffered losses and they were trying to move on which was hard for them. Rebecca worked too much and had no personal life but Wes was able to show her that there was more to life than spending it on the job. On the other hand, she was able to support him in his new dream. Rebecca could be feisty when it was needed but she could also be vulnerable too. Wes had learned from his past mistakes and was trying to help himself and others less lucky than him.

The One You Can't Forget is an easy read with very little drama. I liked it but I didn't love it which is a first for this author. This won't deter me from reading the next two.

The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

Title: The Ones Who Got Away
Author: Roni Loren
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Release Date: January 2, 2018

It's been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

Liv Arias thought she'd never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs..

I promise, Class of 2005, to live the life that scares me.
Long Acre High School was the epicenter of a horrible tragedy. During prom night, two students were involved in one of the worse massacres to happen in the USA.  Very few students survived that terrible night. Twelve years later, some of the survivors are back in their hometown for a documentary.

For Liv Arias, that night only brings bad memories, flashbacks, and nightmares. It also reminds her of her relationship with Finn Dorsey. They had a clandestine love affair. She was the goth girl, he was the popular guy who dated her in secret because his father didn't approve of her. In the present, she's a web designer who's a workaholic and has no time for her photography or relationships.

Finn Dorsey has always regretted his actions that night. He harbors guilt and shame and he hates being called a hero when he knows the truth. He failed Liv in so many ways. Now, as an FBI undercover agent, he has made a promise to himself to put the bad guys away. Seeing Liv brings all these feelings forward and after sharing one kiss, he knows he wants her back in his life.

Love never ends. But fear could.

I love Roni Loren's books. They are all awesome and this one is not any different. I was impressed with the way she managed the high school shooting flashbacks. They were well done.

I couldn't help but love Finn and Liv together. They were made for each other. Each helped the other one healed and get their priorities straight.

Another great asset to The Ones Who Got Away, was the other females in Liv's group. They went through an awful experience together and the time capsule they uncovered has shown them what was lacking from their present life.

I'm excited to read about the rest of the women. I hope we get those books soon.

Setup: This scene takes place during an interview for the documentary the survivors are participating in.

“He cursed at me, told me to stay put, and wedged a chair against the outside of the door.” Liv rubbed her lips together. “After that, I heard more shots.”

“Presumably when he and Trevor shot at”—Daniel checked his notes—“Finn Dorsey and Rebecca Lindt.”

Liv reached for her water and took a slow sip, trying not to hear the sounds of that night in her head. The gun going off in that steady, unrelenting way. The cries for help. A Mariah Carey song still playing in the gym. Her own rapid breath as she huddled in that closet and did—nothing. Frozen. For five hours. Only the chair against the door had alerted the SWAT team someone was in there after everything was over. “Yes. I didn’t see any of it, but I know Finn was shot protecting Rebecca. You’d have to ask Rebecca about that part.”

“I did ask her. I plan to ask Finn, too.”

Liv’s head snapped upward at that, the words yanking her out of the memories like a stage hook. “What?”

“Mr. Dorsey is my next interview.”

She stared at Daniel, not sure if she’d heard the words right. “Finn’s here?”

She barely resisted saying, He exists? The guy had become a ghost after the awful months following the shooting. He’d gotten a ton of press for being a hero, and the media had played up the story to the nth degree. The star athlete and son of a local business owner taking a bullet for his date. But within a year, his family had rented out their house and moved out of town, running from the spotlight like everyone else. No one wanted to be that brand of famous.

Liv hadn’t heard anything about him since, and he never gave interviews. She’d decided that he had probably moved to some remote tropical island and changed his name. She would’ve skipped town back then, too—if she’d had the funds to do it.

“Yes,” Daniel said, tipping his head toward the spot over her left shoulder. “He got here a few minutes ago. He’s declined to be on camera, but he’s agreed to an interview.”

With that, she couldn’t help but turn and follow the interviewer’s gaze. Leaning against the wall in the shadows of the darkened gym was a man with dark hair, black T-shirt, and jeans. He looked up from the phone in his hand, as if hearing his name, and peered in their direction. He was too far away for her to read his expression or see the details of his face, but a jolt of bone-deep recognition went through her. “Oh.”

“Hey, we should invite him to join you for this part since you were both close to the same place at the same time. We’ll get a more accurate timeline that way.”

“What? I mean, no, that’s not—”

“Jim, can you turn off the camera? I think this will be important. Mr. Dorsey,” Daniel called out, “would you mind if I asked you a few questions now? The camera’s off.”

The cameraman went about shutting things down, and Finn pushed away from the wall.

Liv’s heart leapt into her throat and tried to escape. She’d avoided Finn after everything had happened, not just from hurt, but because seeing his face, even on television, would trigger the flashbacks. But she wasn’t that girl anymore. Seeing Finn after all these years shouldn’t concern her. Still, she had the distinct urge to make tracks to the back door. She slid out of the director’s chair she’d been sitting in. “I think I’ve probably given you everything I have to add. I wasn’t in the gym, and my story is really just me cowering in the closet. Not that interesting—”

Her words cut off, her voice dying a quick death, as Finn got closer and some of the studio lights caught him in their glare. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she’d known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package. The smooth face was now dusted with scruff, and the look in his deep-green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence. A thousand things were in those eyes. A thousand things welled up in Liv.

Finn Dorsey had become a man. And a stranger. The only familiar thing was the sharp, undeniable kick of awareness she’d always had anytime the guy was around. Time had only made the effect more potent. Without thinking, her gaze drifted to his hands. Big, capable hands that had once held her. When she’d known him, he’d always worn his football championship ring from junior year. The cool metal used to press against the back of her neck when he kissed her. Now he wore no rings at all. She took a breath, trying to reel in that old, automatic response to him, and smoothed her hands down the sides of her now-wrinkled pencil skirt.

Daniel held out his hand. “Mr. Dorsey, so glad you could make it.”

Finn returned the offered handshake and gave a brief nod. “Not a problem.”

Then, his gaze slid to Liv. His brow wrinkled for a second, but she could tell the moment he realized who she was. Something flickered over his face. A very distinct look. Like she caused him pain. Like she was a bad memory.

Because she was. That was all they were to each other at this point.

“Liv.”

She pushed words past her constricted throat. “Hi, Finn.”

Loving You Easy by Roni Loren

TitleLoving You Easy
SeriesLoving on the Edge #9
Author: Roni Loren
PublisherBerkley
Release DateSeptember 6, 2016

Three lovers really click in the latest from the New York Times bestselling author of Call on Me—

Cora has an amazing sex life. She’s beautiful, daring, and the most popular submissive in Hayven. Too bad none of it’s real...

IT specialist Cora Benning has figured out the key to her formerly disastrous love life—make it virtual. In the online world of Hayven, she’s free of her geek girl image and can indulge her most private fantasies with a sexy, mysterious master without anyone in her life discovering her secrets. Until her information is hacked and she finds herself working to fix the breach under two very powerful men—one who seems all too familiar...

Best friends and business partners Ren Muroya and Hayes Fox were once revered dominants. Then Hayes was wrongfully sent to prison and everything changed. Ren wants to get back to who they were. Hayes can’t risk it. But when they discover the new IT specialist is their online fascination, and that she’s never felt a dominant’s touch, the temptation to turn virtual into reality becomes all too great…

Only Roni Loren could make me relish an unconventional love story. My first book by her was discovered during a NetGalley browsing and now she has become a must in my bookshelves.

I have read a few books in the Loving on the Egde series but this one is my favorite.  No one is more surprised than me since this one is not about just one couple. There is one extra person in this romance story.

Cora Benning likes to watch BDSM and just recently started playing a submissive in the game Hayven. She's confident and gorgeous. Too bad that's just her avatar. In real life, she's more of an introvert, IT expert. When someone hacks into the game's system and Cora almost gets hurt, she decides to take matters into her own hands to find the culprit and inform the owner of the game about their breach in security.

Ren Muroya and Hayes Fox are the owners of program Hayven. They have been best friends since Hayes saved Ren from an abusive relationship when they were in their teens.  Fast forward years and Hayes is recently out of prison for something he didn't do. Because of it, he has problems trusting anyone except Ren.

Cora has her own issues. She wants to explore her desires but she can't believe both of these gorgeous men want her. She's a little intimidated by them but she also knows she feels safe with them and guess what? she does have a safe word she can use if she wants to.

Like I said at the beginning of my review, I was totally prepared to dislike this book but in the end,  I actually LOVED it. I love how careful Roni Loren was with the subject matter and her characters. For me, it was the perfect combination of desire, intrigue, and hotness.

This is by far a great erotica.

Wanderlust by Roni Loren

Title: Wanderlust
Author: Roni Loren
PublisherInterMix
Release Date: July 19, 2016

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Loving on the Edge series and Off the Clock, a story of sex, love, rock & roll, and a reporter who’s about to learn a new meaning for staying on top of her assignment...

Restaurant critic Aubrey Bordelon is never at a loss for words to describe her meals in the fancy restaurants of New Orleans. But after her magazine’s high-profile music reporter falls ill, she finds herself out of her element and in a sea of screaming fans awaiting Wanderlust’s lead singer, Lex Logan. The sound of his voice gives her goosebumps, and the stage presence of the hard-bodied rock star takes her breath away. So when he pulls her onstage for a sexy stunt, she knows she’s in real trouble.

Lex doesn’t want to pretend that the sparks on stage between him and Aubrey never happened, but it certainly makes the fact that she’s writing a story on his band all the more dangerous. The last thing he needs is some nosy reporter revealing their problems to the world. But the sexy Southern belle doesn’t give up easily, and soon he’s wondering if the best way to chase her off the story is to coax her into his bed…

Aubrey Bordelon is a food critic but when her co-worker is not able to make it to the Wanderlust concert, she is sent instead. To her surprise, she's picked by the band's lead singer Lex Logan to do a body shot. Aubrey can't believe he is able to stir feelings in her she thought lost. Too bad Lex seems to be too full of himself and her job of following the band for a week can lead her into big trouble- cough- his big arms.

Lex Logan is having a hard time keeping his band together. They're having a hard time creating a new album and having the press follow them is the last thing Lex wants, even if he does want Aubrey. And make no mistake, Lex wants Aubrey.

Of course, things are never simple and there is more to what Aubrey wants in life and her past has an awful truth that she is not willing to share with anyone except maybe Lex.

I had a hard time getting into the story, not because of the writing but because of the premise of the Girl falling for the band Boy. The band boy is always a manwhore who falls in love with a sweet thing and nothing more. The insta-love is a huge turn off for me. Saying that there were parts I really liked. The other band members did intrigue me and I want to read their stories.
I do want to say that just because this story didn't click with me doesn't mean other people won't like it. I'm pretty sure it's going to be the opposite.

For me, the best part of Wanderlust was the epilogue. It was swoon-worthy!

Marin Rush loves studying sex. Doing it? That’s another story. In the research lab, Marin’s lack of practical knowledge didn’t matter, but now that she’s landed a job at The Grove, a high-end, experimental sex therapy institute, she can’t ignore the fact that the person most in need of sexual healing may be her.

Dr. Donovan West, her new hotshot colleague, couldn’t agree more. Donovan knows that Marin’s clients are going to eat her alive unless she gets some hands-on experience. And if she fails at the job, he can say goodbye to a promotion, so he assigns her a list of R-rated tasks to prepare her for the wild clientele of The Grove’s X-wing.

But some of those tasks are built for two, and when he finds Marin searching for a candidate to help her check off her list, Donovan decides there’s only one man for the job—him. As long as they keep their erotic, off-the-clock activities strictly confidential and without strings, no one will get fired—or worse, get attached…

Exclusive to this edition only—a bonus short story

When Marin Rus was eighteen and helping with sleep study research her world came apart. First, she had her first sexual encounter with Donovan West.  She never forgot him and she never expected to see him again. Now, years later, Marin needs money fast to help with her brother's college expenses. Joining The Grove, a sex therapy institute, is sure to bring her what she needs. Marin is worried about her inexperience but she has worked hard to achieve her success. Nothing will interfere. This lasts 2.0 seconds until she bumps into Dr. West.

Donovan West is cocky, smart and now Marin's boss. He's the one who's going to be responsible in making Marin a permanent team member at The Grove. He just needs to keep his hands to himself. A task that is becoming harder and harder to do.  Marin is not helping, blushing every time a patient is crude during their sessions. What's a guy to do but offer to help her off the clock to get the experience she needs.

I'm a fan of Roni Loren's work. She weaves a great story within the romance. Off The Clock had all the components I'm used to expecting from her work.  I like that Marin was able to stand up for herself. She was feisty and had a backbone. Donovan's issues were well portrayed and believable. And don't get me started on their sexy times! They were so hot together!!!

I'm also so happy, Roni included a short story. It was perfect!

"I can't be your boss. Because if what I have in mind is going to work, it's going to have to be strictly off the clock and off the record."

Break Me Down (Loving on the Edge #8.5)
by Roni Loren

The New York Times bestselling author of Call on Me invites you to discover the thrill of control as one couple wrestles for power in and out of the bedroom…

Samantha Dunbar needs to forget Gibson Andrews. When he trained her to be a domme, she experienced just how hot things could get with the sexy executive. She was ready to hand him everything—including her heart. But Gibson backed away, declaring them incompatible. He’s a dominant, and Sam’s no submissive.

But after an attack shakes Sam to her core, Gibson tracks her down at her family’s rundown farmhouse and makes her an offer. He’ll stay the week and be hers in every way—a helping hand for the renovation and a willing lover in her bed. He swore he’d never give up control to anyone again, but he hasn’t been able to touch another woman since Sam. Maybe a week alone with her will cure him of his relentless craving.

But one taste only makes them want more, and Sam and Gibson are drawn in deeper than ever. The man who won’t give in has just met the girl who won’t give up…

Samantha Dunbar is a domme and she tried a year ago to get Gibson Andrews to be her submissive. Gib wouldn't let it happen. Sam is almost ready to give up and find someone else to be with her. Sam was someone's secret before and this time she won't be with anyone who needs to hide who they are. Gib is not ready to give Sam what she needs. He is a dominant at work and he fears letting go can make his ghosts resurface. Nonetheless, when Sam needs him he has to step up to the plate and deal with her own shortcomings.

Roni Loren has a way to make me like her characters. I was happy with Sam and Gib's love story. They have known each other for a while and their attraction has only strengthened through time. I can understand how hard it was for Sam and Gib to admit what they were and accept it.
BDSM is usually not my thing but I can tell you that now that I have met more characters I only want to go back and read the rest.
By the way, the contract had me in stitches!

Call on Me (Loving on the Edge #8)
by Roni Loren

This book was hot. No questions about it.
Sexy Drummer - check
Sexy talk- check
Sexy scenes- check check check!

Oakley Easton is a single mother to her high functioning autistic daughter Reagan. Years ago she used to be a singer but she left her career behind when she got pregnant. To make ends meet, Oakley takes a second job as a telephone sex operator.  This has made her jaded in regards to relationships. No man can stir any passion in her. She takes the phone calls at night while she does her daily chores like cleaning, laundry, cooking.  Everything changes when she meets the sexy drummer Pike Rylan. Worst of all he soon learns her secret!

Pike has a successful career and he has good friendships but his life hasn't always been that good. He carries baggage and the last thing on his mind is to fall in love like his friends have until he meets Oakley and Reagan. Little by little this sexy guy starts falling for the woman and his daughter. Instead of running away, he moves forward.

“Are you always this cocky?”
“No, it’s dialed down right now. I can get way worse.”
She stirred her drink. “Not. Possible.”
His lips spread into a menacing smile. “Challenge accepted.”

~~

I have to admit I have only read one novella in this series. However, I don't think you need to read the other books to enjoy this one. If anything it made me want to go back and read the rest of the books. I'm guessing there is some BDSM theme since The Ranch seems to play a big part in this series. Not so much in this one.
Pike has some dominant characteristics but I wouldn't label him a Dom. He learned what he liked with Oakley and it work for them.
Oakley was a strong heroine. She wasn't going to mess up her daughter's life by bringing someone over whom she couldn't trust. She liked Pike and she tried to avoid him in the beginning. She had been burned before and I respected her for trying to put some distance between herself and the sexy drummer.
When Pike was trying to win Oakley, he won me. He was a great guy, hot, smart, tender, and had a dog. Best combination ever! I enjoyed his camaraderie with the rest of his friends.
After I finished reading Call on Me, I know I won't miss out on any other Roni Loren's books.

“So I’m wooing you over to the dark side?”
She smiled. “Maybe. I don’t know if the formal stuff would be my thing. If you made me call you sir, I’d probably want to punch you in the throat.”
He laughed. “No worries. Supreme Master of the Universe would work just fine.”

Nice Girls Don't Ride by Roni Loren

Natalie Bourne is having her worst birthday ever. She is turning twenty- one and instead of having fun she’s stranded in the middle of nowhere. It’s hot and humid. Her boyfriend, whom she thinks is going to ask her to move in together is not answering his phone. Needless to say, she is in a bad mood. So when a tow truck guy stops to help her, she let’s him have it.

Monroe Hawkins is helping his brother out with their auto mechanic shop. However, his real passion is food. He has road trip coming up. Just him, a van, food, and hopefully women. When he meets fiery red-hair Natalie, he has to admit that he likes what he sees. Helping her through some heartache until the sun comes out seems like a good idea.

I love this little gem. It’s a novella, so you know everything has to play in a fast forward pace. So insta-love has to play a part. It never bothers me in novellas (big time in novels). Both characters were great. They had tons of chemistry and passion. Like every good novella, I wish this one was longer. I was not ready to let these characters go.

"because we're chasing our bluebirds, Nat. And nothing feels better than that."

This novella was great! It was sweet, sassy and the chemistry between Natalie and Monroe was killer.

Natalie’s 21st birthday doesn’t go at all the way she planned. She was supposed to be sharing a romantic dinner with her boyfriend at a high-end restaurant and wowing him with her killer dress.

“Looks like you need a ride.”

She ends up on the back of a motorcycle, sharing her birthday with a total stranger instead. Monroe is so much more than Natalie expected when he stepped out of the tow truck.  The tattoos and motorcycle boots had her convinced, he was up to no good. Turns out there’s depth behind those killer eyes of his and a desire to chase his dreams that’s contagious.

It’s a night that neither of them could ever forget.

“I’m completely stupid over you. Like, losing-my-mind into you.”

Why wasn’t this a full length novel? This story was so sweet and left me giddy. Monroe was perfection in my eyes and I want more.  Hopefully, just maybe, this might possibly be the start to a new series? Well, that’s what’s what I’m hoping at least. We get to see their first night together and the epilogue gives us a glimpse of where they are a few weeks later, but I want everything in between and after. They’re too great together for there not to be more to their story.

I haven’t read anything else from Roni Loren, but after this, I’m excited to check out her series.
