~ Excerpt ~

As a standoff of epic proportions began between Chelsea and me. My hackles rose, and I knew I would never back down from her. I wasn’t a revengeful person, but as soon as someone starts hurting the people I care about and throwing around half-arsed accusations, they will see the wrath of Savannah. This could be the very reason I chose to have limited female friends. It was easier than having to deal with the bullshit games girls were notorious for starting, and clearly this was why I never hid my intentions when it came to men in the past. Be clear as day and no feelings came to the surface. I felt Mr. Davenport sigh beside me and I swallowed hard.Professional, Savannah. For him.
I still didn’t back down as I spoke. “So I am assuming the—”
“Um, excuse me? I was told that I needed to be here.”
Our heads snapped to the door opening slowly, and I couldn’t believe who I was looking at, could this day get any weirder? Blake freaking Ryan had just walked through the door looking all rock star-ish. This was the first time we had seen each other since he had left New York for London.
His eyes widened to the size of saucers as he took everything in. Dressed head to toe in black, he was wearing a shirt that sat snug against his body, and his tattoos were glistening under the boardroom lights. He was born to be a rock star.
His eyes bounced between Tate and me and dropped to my hand gripped tightly in Tate’s and a smile tugged at his lips. Tate’s body stiffened against mine and his hand squeezed mine to the point of hurt like he was making his claim on me.
“Stop it,” I hissed and shot him a pleading look.
“Sorry, just habit,” he whispered then peppered my jaw with a kiss.
“Thanks for coming in, Blake.” Mr. Davenport shuffled papers on the large conference table and looked towards Blake, holding out a pen and what looked to be a contract. “So you have been booked for the shoot next week and we are now just finalizing details. Savannah will be running the shoot on behalf of Beautify and Chelsea will be the female model for the campaign. If you can just sign here, we are good to go.”
Blake shook his head and shot a disgusted look at Chelsea. “Are you serious? I can’t work with her.”
“See? I told you, Savannah. Even Blake doesn’t want to work with you in your pathetic little fairytale world you are supposedly living in,” Chelsea spat before she threw her straw-looking hair over her shoulder and strutted towards Blake. I watched Blake closely; the look sweeping over his face was priceless.
“I wasn’t talking about Savannah, you idiot. I cannot work with you, Chelsea. I tend to not want to associate with fucked-up, conniving bitches.”
I couldn’t hide the smile of victory tugging on my lips. Blake Ryan, you genius. The look of utter devastation Chelsea was wearing made me feel like a million bucks. I still had no clue of the history that Chelsea and Blake shared.
“Well isn’t this going to be a fun shoot,” Mr. Davenport mumbled under his breath.

Breathe Again (Breathe #2) by Rachel Brookes

Breathe Again
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

The conclusion of Savannah and Tate story can be divided in to two big chapters. The first part of the book deals with the couple while they are separated by lies and living in opposites parts of the States.  They are both hurting and are too stubborn to fix their relationship. Savannah's pregnancy is coming along the way without a major issue but she wishes Tate was with her.

The second part of the book moves forward in time. Once again Savannah and Tate are torn apart but now it's on different continents. Savannah must fly to Australia when tragedy strikes. Tate is unable to follow her due to his job
and old insecurities reappear and threaten their stability.
And can a bitter old lover break them apart?

“I don’t want you to see me break, Sav.” His voice broke under his words.
“That’s what we do. We pick up each other’s pieces when we break and put them back together in our own special way. Let me pick up your broken pieces, Tate. Let me make you whole again.”

This book made me feel so sad for Tate. He kept on trying to be a good guy and a good father.

“Savannah, I never knew perfection until I met you.”

Yet, things were always against him. Not only was he in a constant fight to keep Savannah but his dad does a number on him that I didn't see coming.

“You need to remember what’s important, Tate. Sometimes you need to move on from the past in order to see the future.”

I'm glad in the end everything worked fine for them and if anything the family becomes much stronger.
Also, I believe the secondary characters were super important to make this novel a success. When things were going south for this couple one of their friends or family will make them understand how right they were for each other.

“Sav, you need to go through the storm before you get your rainbow.”

Tanzi was always there for Tate and it was nice to see her own story progress too. I still love Mr Davenport and I love how he blushed when Tanzi was teasing him.
I do hope Blake gets his own story. After all he is the vocalist for The Fallen.

"You own my heart, Sav. It's yours to break."

Breathless (Breathe #1.5) by Rachel Brookes

Breathless
This novella is short and sweet.

It's told from Tate's POV and let me tell you, it's nice to read his thoughts.

The man has fallen for Sav and he will do everything to keep her. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with them as a couple and breaking them up is their mission.

I'm always happy to read the male POV. It makes me like the character much more.
I do think that Tate and Sav have to work on their communication skills and their tendency to jump to the wrong conclusion. They also need to trust each other if they want to remain together.

Overall I enjoyed it.

“You are so worth all of this, Sav. Every mile I travel. Every penny I spend, every hour of sleep I lose, and every moment you leave me breathless. You make everything worth it.”

Just Breathe (Breathe #1) by Rachel Brookes

Just Breathe
Savannah Rae has had enough heartache in her life. She deals with her pain the only way she knows how. Meaning she uses men and alcohol to forget. This has worked for five years.
Mr Davenport, her boss, mentor and only "family" she has, has had enough of watching her self-destruct. Moving her to America is what this Aussie girl needs.
When Savannah arrives to the States she meets Tanzi and her twin brother Tate Connors.

Tate Connors doesn't do relationships. Having a string of women in his life with no attachments is what he desires. This all stops when he meets Savannah and the predator soon becomes the prey.

"I'm scared of you, but sometimes being scared is the best thing that can happen,"

Tate and Savannah are too similar. They fight all the time. They want to rip each other clothes. They fight some more. In the end they end up breaking all of their silly rules.

"So, Mom, we're going to head out. Sav wants to ravish my body because it's my birthday...or something like that,"

It was fun watching this couple fall in love. Their banter made me laugh. Their fights and some of their misunderstandings made me want to scream but when they were together, it was so so sweet. I liked that Tate was cocky, arrogant and dreamy but he also had a softer side and love his twin sister and mom to death.

I felt bad for Savannah. She didn't deserve what haunts her and I hope she can stop blaming herself.  She and Tate have a chance at something wonderful and the girl deserves some happiness.

I couldn't finish my review without mentioning that I fell in love with Mr Davenport. What an excellent secondary character. I want him to be happy too. Maybe he can be Tate's mom HEA. He is swoon worthy.

"Ms. Rae, I would like to formally introduce myself as Mr. Tate Connors, exceptional cook, provider of your every need, San Diego tour guide, and most importantly, the loving boyfriend of Savannah Rae."

On hi free time, he thinks about the woman he married and who was murdered under his watch. The least he can do is find the culprit. He doesn't know that Faith is doing the same with her internet friends.
Faith Goodknight is the beautiful, shy librarian. She has been in love with Chase since she can't remember  At the beginning, he is rude to her, despite him having a thing for her for years too. But, when an abused kid shows up at the library, Faith needs the cops help and Chase is the one that takes it upon himself to help her.
There are so many good parts, but what I love the most is how geeky Faith is. She loves Scify, She mentions, Buffy, Angel, Star wars and Firefly references.

Spoiler Fangalert: our little miss Ally Nightingale shows up in this book. Righteous!!
