Hard to Be Good (Hard Ink #3.5) by Laura Kaye

This is Jeremy and Charlie’s novella and it has everything that I want to read about. Hot ex-military guys trying to clear their name, tattoo artists being badass, a motorcycle club and pets in the mix. You see, what’s not to like?

This series has become one of my favorites and I knew this book wouldn’t disappoint me either. Laura Kaye has a true talent to make me happy, cry, laugh and sigh. The romance between Jeremy and Charlie was just perfect! I was rooting for them to get together since the moment they met in Hard as It Gets. Charlie is shy and smart. He tries to avoid people while Jeremy is an extrovert, with funny T shirts, and with a body full of tattoos.

“I’ve loved the things we shared today, Charlie. For real. But what I’m feeling for you isn’t just physical. It’s something more. I’m not sure what yet, but I . . .” Jeremy shrugged. “ . . . don’t want you to think this is just about sex for me.”

Their romance has been building up during all the prior books. Now that Jeremy feels responsible for the lives lost in the last battle against the bad guys, Charlie is there for him, supporting him and making him deal with his guilt. Just like Jeremy was always there for Charlie after his kidnapping and torture. Having them as a couple made perfect sense despite appearing to be so different.

It’s always nice to revisit with the old characters too. I liked learning more about the ones who don’t have a story yet, *cough*Dare*cough*. The addition of Cy was just the icing on the cake.

I can’t wait for Trigger and Kay’s book next.

Cliffhanger: No

Hard As You Can (Hard Ink #2) by Laura Kaye

Hard As You Can
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

Crystal is living a nightmare. She was kidnapped, abused and sold. Now she is a waitress at one of the gang's properties. She is "dating" Bruno and her sister's epilepsy seems to be getting worse.

Shane McCallan lost his sister when he was just a kid. Since then he has tried to help others.

God, what he wouldn’t give for five more minutes with his kid sister. Just five. Did she know how sorry he was? How much he loved her? That he’d devoted his life to making things right for others as a penance for getting so much wrong with her?

As part of the Special Forces he was able to help during this war.  Loosing part of his team was another punch he was not expecting.
When his former team mate asked him to help him rescue the brother of the woman he was falling for, Shane couldn't say no.
This is how he meets Crystal.  He knows she is in trouble and when they need more intel, he volunteers to find her and make her talk.
Rescuing Crystal (and her sister) at the same time, finding out more about the Church and the links to Afghanistan and their dismissal from the military can be riskier than they thought.

Crystal needs help and trusting Shane may be the right choice.

desire to tell him she’d love his help because, God, it would be so nice to have someone to lean on now and then.

I think Laura writes a great romance with good suspense. The seriousness of certain topics mixed with humor and emotional scenes make her books special.

I felt so bad for Crystal. She had a rotten deal and what she went through should never have happened. I'm surprised she was so well balanced.  Shane did a great job showing her that he didn't care what she had done to survive. He didn't make it any more difficult that it had to be.

This ex-military team is now getting help from an MC group and some other characters are introduced too. I wonder how Jeremy's home is going to be able to sleep everyone in it. Not that I'm complaining. I liked all the additional characters and want to get to know them better.

“It’s easy to be good to someone when you love them the way I love you.” Sara’s breath hitched, and the tears fell.
“You . . . love me?”
“Aw, darlin’. I’m so in love with you, I can barely think straight.”
