Her Forever Hero by Melody Anne

Title: Her Forever Hero
Series: Unexpected Heroes #3
Author: Melody Anne
Release Date: February 23, 2016
Publisher: Pocket Books

Growing up in a big adoptive family, gorgeous small-town attorney Cam has always had a life rich with love. But the one thing he’s missing is the perfect woman to grow old and raise a family with—and send sparks flying on those cold Montana nights! Still, Cam knows if it wasn’t for his caring parents and brothers, he wouldn’t be where he is today, so he tries to pay it forward whenever he can. And if the client happens to be a modern-day damsel in distress, he’ll happily don a suit of shining armor. This time, his sister-in-law’s best friend Grace is in serious trouble, and Cam’s determined to get his smart, beautiful client off the hook. But as attorney-client privilege brings Cam and Grace closer than they ever imagined, the sexual tension heats up. It’s clear before the gavel comes down that the verdict is going to be red hot!

“True love never dies. It may dim, and it may drift to the far reaches of your mind if you allow it to, but all it takes is a spark, a scent, a memory, and in a flash, you’re back at the moment your heart fluttered for the first time.”

This is the third book in the series. It centers around Cam and Grace.

Camden Whitman is one of Martin's adopted sons. He's the lawyer in the family. He's ready to offer a helping hand to whoever needs it just like Martin did for them so many years ago.
Cam had a relationship with Grace when they were in high school. They loved each other but once he left for college, their relationship ended. Many years have passed and now Cam is ready to move forward with the one girl he let go.

"I'm here when you're ready, Grace."

Grace Sinclair doesn't trust anyone. Every time she thought she could count on somebody, they left her behind. It happened with her best friend, it happened with her boyfriend. She could never count on her parents and her mother betrayed her in more ways than one.  Grace, now tweenty-eight-year-old, is back in Montana, and the small town that feels closer to home than anywhere else. However, trouble is following her and getting the advice from a lawyer might be the smart thing to do except the so called lawyer is the only man she has ever loved and giving her heart is not something she is willing to do ever again.

“Because I learned a long time ago that to open myself up only hurts me. I learned that dreams are for fools, and the past is best left where it belongs.”
~~

You know, I wanted to get upset with Grace for pushing Cam away too many times, but in all truth, she had been hurt before and she was just protecting herself from more heartbreak. Yes, there were a couple of instances where I wanted to scream at her and tell her that she needed to accept the help so many people were willing to give her.

Cam was stubborn as well. He was not going to let Grace get away this time. He knew he messed up but he was ready to do anything to get her to be his. He was in for the long haul and he was not ashamed to make it crystal clear.

I do love the characters from the Unexpected Heroes series. They are like a real family. They teased each other endlessly but they would do anything to protect what and who they love.

Safe in His Arms by Melody Anne

 Title: Safe in His Arms
Series: Unexpected Heroes
Author: Melody Anne
Release Day: November 30, 2015

Can a California transplant survive Montana’s deep snows? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Melody Anne breaks the ice between a sexy fireman and a brand-new teacher in this steamy holiday tale—originally published in the sizzling anthology Baby, It’s Cold Outside—which launched her popular Unexpected Heroes series.

Natalie Duncan is thrilled to get her first teaching job, but southern California didn’t prepare her for winter in Montana—or for gorgeous fire chief Hawk Winchester. For a man dedicated to putting out fires, Hawk really knows how to add heat to Natalie’s life, especially when he’s rescuing her from compromising situations. A man this strong and capable should know exactly what to do when a lady is trapped under the mistletoe. Suddenly Natalie’s blue Christmas is glowing red-hot...

This was a super cute novella. It was perfect for the Christmas season.

When you read a novella, you know insta-love is part of the package and even though I'm not a fan of insta-love but for some reason, in this case, I was ok with it.

If you read other books by Melody Anne you know there are always meddling parents or grandparents trying to make their grown up children fall in love. This is the case for Hawk and Natalie.

Natalie is the new teacher in town. She moved from California to Sterling, Montana. She had no idea what a Montana winter would be and she was not dressed for it. She was also not ready to fall for the chief of the fire department, Hawk Winchester. Her plans do not involve falling in love before her career has settled down or owning a home.

Hawk Winchester is happy with his job and he loves his family except when they are meddling in his love life. That's why he doesn't date close to home which makes it unbelievable crazy to want to date Natalie. She has woken up something in him, he can't turn away from. He wants her close to him and for her to become part of his family too.

I love how Hawk didn't want to play games. He knew and accepted that Natalie fit right in his life. He also had a great heart and one particular scene got me misty-eyed. In regards to Natalie, this book made me want to hug her and offer her my complete support. She had a tough upbringing and she needed someone to take care of her just like Maggie did.

Following Her (Unexpected Heroes #2.5)
by Melody Anne

Title: Following Her
Author: Melody Anne
Release Date: September 14, 2015

The newest sexy e-novella in the Unexpected Heroes series by New York Times bestselling author Melody Anne!

Ella was a woman Axel wouldn’t mind shadowing day and night—especially night.

Ella Brooks is strong-willed, independent, and stubborn, and when she hears something she’s not supposed to about her shady boyfriend, her safety is at risk. Much to her dismay, her cousin sends FBI Agent Axel Carlson to keep an eye on her. Ella’s determined to resist the infuriatingly sexy bodyguard—she can take care of herself!—but she soon discovers that beneath the six-pack abs and amazing biceps lies an equally amazing heart. But will a mysterious threat keep them from finding their happily ever after?

Ella Brooks is an attorney. She's in the process of testifying against her ex-boyfriend/boss. Learning awful things about him while they were together has made her leery of trusting men. She's also in danger but she refuses to be bullied into dropping out of the case. Her cousin Bryson is worried about her and he sends FBI agent Axel Carlson to follow her and help her be safe. Ella isn't too happy about it. Yes, the man is fine but she has walls bigger than the Wall of Game of Thrones.

Axel is on leave. He hasn't been happy with his job for a while now. He welcomes a chance of scenery and he's happy to help his friend Bryson Winchester when he asks him to protect Ella. He's attracted to her and he doesn't hide it. Convincing her to give them a chance is another story.

Sweet short story! Both of the characters were likable despite Ella's stubbornness. She was so sure she wasn't in danger, when she clearly was. Axel was an alpha but he listened to her. I like him. I also liked Ella's girlfriends Maycie and Reese.

Her Hometown Hero (Unexpected Heroes #2)
by Melody Anne

Sage Banks had a huge crush on Spence Whitman as a young girl. But when she revealed her feelings for him, he dismissed her. Now, she's an adult and a physician who's in the process of choosing a residency program. When her grandmother’s health seems to be declining, she's forced to pick the position at the local hospital in her hometown of Sterling. She realizes to late that Spence works there and he's her new boss.

Spence Whitman is very lucky in the female department. He's smart, rich and handsome. He never had to fight for a woman's attention before. When he meets Sage again and she's all grown up, he’s very much interested in the successful beautiful doctor she has become. But, contrary to the norm, Sage doesn’t seem to be falling for him as expected. She becomes a dare to him. One that he wants to win.

Sage lost her parents and grandfather in an instant. She worked hard to become a doctor and going back home to do her residency made her feel like she was settling. However, she will do anything for her grandmother. Her only living relative. She had her heart broken by Spence years ago and now she doesn’t want to give him the chance to hurt her again. After months of working together she knows he’s not only a great teacher but that she's falling for him.

~~

This is the second book in the Unexpected Heroes series and it centers around the second brother Spence. He's one of the adopted children who were saved by Martin. Jackson and Camden are the other two adopted siblings. All the brothers have had a hard time trusting people. Spence is not the exception. At first, Sage becomes a challenge for him but after a while he realizes he's developing feelings for her. Regardless, of his trust issues he’s willing to fight for her.

In the beginning, I wasn't too fond of Spence. As the book progressed I started rooting for him when he started wooing her . The thoughtful gifts were sweet. He was a man on a mission to get Sage to trust him and let him into her heart. Spence had no problem asking his family or friends for help when he needed some.
I understood why Sage guarded her heart in such a way. Spence hurt her feelings. He was her first crush and he dismissed her. I just wished she didn't push him away so many times.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

“Love isn’t logical, Sage. It isn’t something you can put in a box, take out when you want to play with it, and then put it back away when it frightens you. It’s imperfect, comes with fits of emotions, and makes your insides flip out. There’s no reason to it, and if it doesn’t scare the hell out of you, you aren’t feeling it strongly enough. Love is scary because when we love someone, we fear losing them. But without love, what’s the purpose of life? If we give ourselves over to love, we win—we always will win.”

Who I Am with You (Unexpected Heroes #1.5) by Melody Anne

Who I Am with You

Taylor Winchester is a motocross racer. She was in a terrible accident and now she has to wait until she is cleared by her doctor to race again. After her latest crash and injuries, she moves back in with her parents for a while but after a few months she feels suffocated by them.

“Come on, Taylor. If you haven’t been broken yet, you’re certainly not going to let this be your demise.”

When her mother offers for her to go to her brother’s cabin to relax and rest she admits it sounds like a great idea. However, she wasn’t expecting company in the cabin. It seems Bryson, her brother, had invited Taylor to the cabin first. The last man she wants to spend her time with is the one who broke her heart 3 years ago.

“Don’t for one minute think I’m a pushover, Taylor, just because I managed to show more restraint than most men would when a pretty teenager threw herself at them. We’re both all grown up now, and I tend to go after what I want.”

Travis Montclave is back in town. He was honorably discharged from the army after being injured in combat. He is deciding what to do next with his life. When his friend offers him the cabin he’s happy to accept. Even more so when Taylor shows up. She is not a teenager anymore and this time he won’t stop until he makes her understand that he’s back in her life for the long haul. He will make this stubborn woman give him another chance.

“There are no missed chances, Taylor. Only people too damn stubborn to see what’s right in front of them.”

It’s nice coming back to a book where you know some of the characters already. It gives you a sense of familiarity.
From the first scene I knew I was going to like the hero and heroine together. Taylor and Travis had great chemistry. I like that Taylor had an interesting career. She was strong willed and determined. Travis was patient with her and he never gave up trying to convince her to explore what they felt for each other.

“I think you’re more than ready, and when you feel brave enough to tell me, we’ll make magic together.”

Interview with Melody Anne!

Mrs Northman: Where did you get the inspiration for Her Unexpected Hero?

Melody Anne: I live in a fantasy world, and I remember from the days of not having much money at all, I worked in the airport and some of the sexiest men would come in wearing these sexy suits. I wrote that opening scene in my head years ago, so when it came time to write it out, it just flowed. Mmm, a man in a suit is hot.

MN: Have you ever met anyone interesting at the airport? :)

MA: Again, when I worked at the airport, I would drool when our military guys would come through. To me there is nothing sexier than a man in uniform. We did have Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs come through, and a few celebrities, but I’m much more into military guys and athletes or country music singers. If Tim McGraw, Luke Bryan came through, I might jump on them. I did meet Dierks Bentley, and found that I was unable to speak. The man is hot!! J P.S. I do love my husband very much J

MN: Do you have a dream cast for Alyssa and Jackson?

MA: For Jackson, Luke Bryan all the way! And for Alyssa, Jessica Biel. I have so many favorites but a hot country guy will take my hear every time.

MN: Whose POV did you have more fun writing and why?

MA: That’s a tough one. I love writing from the men’s POV the most I think because I love to try to get into men’s heads. I drive the men in my life absolutely insane because I’m always questioning them and pushing them to tell me their feelings and what’s in their hearts. I am surprised they haven’t all blocked me by now. I love Joseph Anderson too, who appears in these books because he’s loud and boisterous and reminds me of my grandpa who I miss every single day.

MN:  Do you have any crazy habits or rituals while you write?

MA: I so don’t want to talk about my habits. Then people will know I’m crazy. I have a beautiful office that is decorated with pictures and my favorite quotes and is in the back of the house where it’s quiet, and though I work at night when everyone is sleeping, I still get lonely being back there, and so I sit at the kitchen table, or on the couch or on my deck, but never in my office. I always have to take like 2am chocolate breaks too. Chocolate and milk. I say to keep myself awake, but really it’s just cause I can sneak into it without my husband busting me for skipping meals and then eating chocolate in place of healthy things.

MN: Do you read while you're writing?

MA: Not usually. I read in between – or I should say, I devour in between books. What happens when I start reading while I’m writing, is that I get into the book and my own writing stops. I do listen to music often when I write. Not if I’m having to concentrate too hard, but when it’s flowing I play music in the background. Right now, “The Only Way I know” is playing in the background. Just had “Amazed” playing before this. I have a great playlist.

MN: Tell us something fun about yourself.

MA: I love nerf battles. I am so freaking competitive. We have offices where everyone busts their butts for me sometimes 7 days a week, and one day over a year ago, I went to a friends house, and when I walked in the door, nerf darts were flying because his kids were shooting him and everything. I decided I wanted a nerf war so we cleaned out Toys R Us of nerf guns and for my birthday we had a bunch of grown up and kids, and we had an epic nerf battle. Then we upped the ante and water guns became involved, and then silly string. Each new Nerf battle gets a little bit messier. So the battles in my books came from real life. After one war, I had bruises all over my body because it turns into tackle nerf wars J

MN: Do you have any go-to authors or favorite books you can recommend?

MA: Read Jennifer Probst!! She is my hero. She’s witty and funny, and you have to keep on reading. One will never be enough. I also love Ruth Cardello for that same reason. Such a great sense of humor. Lynn Raye Harris is incredible with very sexy alpha men, and Sandra Marton is my hero and legend. J.S. Scott is steamy and erotic and has a way with words unlike any other. There are so many more authors, and I hate leaving any out, but those are so of my favorites.

MN: Sometimes when meeting authors, we have fangirl moments. Have you ever had a fangirl moment of your own?

MA: I have had many, many, many fangirl moments. First time I met Nora Roberts I was nearly shaking. I listened to her talk and I wanted a pic with her and was in there with my best friend, Nikki, and after she was done people were walking up to her, and I turned to Nik, and said, never mind, let’s go. Of course, Nik walks right up to her and says, “this is Melody, who is a huge fan. Can I take a pic with you?” I was mortified and of course, Nora said yes, and I got my pic. But I was terrified. Then I was just as shaky to meet Jennifer Probst, and she was so hilarious I felt like an idiot for being afraid. I wouldn’t be afraid anymore, because I have since come to realize that every author, including me, is crazy, and we live inside our own heads, and love meeting and talking to our fans more than anything else. Okay, I still might shake a little if I met Stephen King.

MN:  If you had to choose, Ian Somerholder or Charlie Hunnam? :)

MA: Ian!! without a doubt. I am past thirty years old, shh, don’t tell anyone, and I don’t ever like younger men, but that man’s eyes…. Oh, that man’s eyes. I have described them over and over and over in my books. Of course, my daughter is in love with him, as well, and she’s 20, so I told her to please marry him just so I could look in my son-in-law’s eyes daily J

MN: Would you say you're a cat or a dog person?

MA: I used to very much be a kitty person. I love them. But my husband is very much a dog person and now we own 4 dogs; 3 chihuahua’s and a Siberian huskie, so I have turned into a dog person. I adore my puppies. They keep me warm when I sleep, and when I stay up too late writing, they come and complain.

MN: What are three things you couldn't live without if stranded on a desert island?

MA: Hmmm. Let’s see, PG-13 appropriate… My husband because he gives the words best foot rubs and he would do all the cooking for me (well, I would take Luke Bryan in his place) J A box of books, romance and horror, and vodka. If I’m stuck on an island, I’m going to have a vacation!!

Her Unexpected Hero (Unexpected Heroes #1)
by Melody Anne

Alyssa Gerard is leaving Paris after her modeling career is over and the person whom she trusted betrays her. Her manager and lover has taken off with all her money. She has nothing else to do but to move back home with her parents. They are living in a small town in Montana.
While waiting in the airport she meets a sexy stranger. After striking a conversation, she realizes it might be dangerous to pursue him since he doesn’t do relationships.

“I love to solve mysteries.”
“I don’t think you could solve me, Jackson.”
“Challenge accepted. I’ll give it my best shot.”

Jackson Whitman is bitter. He lost his wife and daughter and he promised himself never to give up his heart again. He does one-night stands and nothing else. When he meets Alyssa he knows he wants her in his bed. No strings attached.  Convincing her to spend the night with him in New York on New Year’s might be harder that he thought.

After a night to remember, Alyssa walks out before there is any drama.
Months later to her surprise Jackson reenters her life. Not only he’s in the same town as she is but he’s her new boss. Avoiding him is going to be more difficult now then ever.

This is my first book by Melody Anne and I gotta say, it won’t be my last. Alyssa and Jackson were great characters. Alyssa reinventing herself after losing it all. She takes it one step at a time and when life throws her a curveball she has to adapt.
Jackson’s transformation was amazing! He kept on opening up and doing the right things. It was impossible not to fall in love with him.
Let’s not forget about the family ties. I love them all. I can’t wait for Camden, Spence and Michael’s books.
I also love their dad Martin and his friends including Joseph. Their matchmaking skills are excellent!

This was a story centered around family and the notion that sometimes the best things in life aren't planned.

Alyssa is sitting in the airport, waiting for her flight home from Paris, when Jackson takes a seat next to her.  He's sophisticated and downright delicious.  And he can't keep his eyes off of her.  There's something about Alyssa that makes Jackson want to get to know her better. So he gets her seat switched next to his in first class.

They spend the flight flirting and even have a sexy make-out session. She's a little insecure and convinced he couldn't want anything more and he keeps reminding himself that he doesn't do relationships.  That doesn't stop either of them from spending their lay-over night in New York, together.  What was supposed to be a one-night stand, changes the course of everything.  Especially when their parents get involved.

"Baby, when you're good, you know it."

This is the first book that I've read from Melody Anne and I found it to be a quick, entertaining read with a great twist.  What I loved  most was the family aspect of the story.  Especially, Jackson and all of his brothers.  And I couldn't help but to laugh at the parents acting as matchmakers.  It was really cute. I'm looking forward to seeing who they're going to match up next.

So why not a higher rating?  There were a few things that bothered me.  I struggled with the connection between Alyssa and Jackson in the beginning. It felt really rushed. I wanted more dialogue between them.  It was a lot of inner thoughts and then bam, they were making out.  After they reconnected, it was a slower build and it felt more sincere.  I just wish that Alyssa hadn't kept the truth from Jackson for so long, considering the circumstances. It won't keep me from reading the next book though.

Betrayed (Forbidden #3) by Melody Anne

Title: Betrayed
Series: Forbidden #3
Author: Melody Anne
Publication Date: January 26, 2015

Synopsis

Byron Knight’s world isn’t what most would consider perfect, but he is satisfied with the way his life is going. There are only two people in this world whom he loves — his brothers, Blake and Tyler Knight.

A woman is now threatening the carefully balanced beam the brothers have been holding on to, and her name is McKenzie Beaumont. Before she had entered the life of his brother Blake, no one, male or female, had ever come between the three men, but McKenzie and her twisted business has interfered for the last time in the Knight brothers’ lives, and she is about to feel Byron’s wrath.

McKenzie Beaumont hasn’t always been so closed off, so cold, or what the world sees as cold, but she’s learned the hard way that men are never to be trusted. If she stays ahead of the game, protects the women she employs, then the women — herself included — are the true winners, even if the men think they have all the control.

Her heart was in her throat. She had no doubt that she should walk away, but the pay was great, and the reality was that she had nothing to hide, so there was no way for this man to hurt her in any way. So, he would be the one losing this battle here, not her. If she backed down now, he would think she was up to something. Why was it that a person looking at you as if you were guilty, made you shift on your feet? Even when you hadn’t committed the crime? She probably would never have the answer to that.

Looking him in the eye, her back straight, she made her decision.

“Then we have an understanding.” Her voice was firm.

“I guess we do. Let’s seal the deal.”

McKenzie knew exactly how he planned on sealing the deal, and there was no way she was letting that happen. Sidestepping, she managed to come away from his grasp and moved an appropriate distance away, then stuck out her hand.

Byron smiled, a movement of the lips that certainly didn’t reach his eyes, and finally he reached out and took her fingers. But instead of shaking like a normal person did, he held tightly to them and then her hand was being raised to his lips where he placed a kiss on her palm.

“I look forward to Monday,” he said, still holding her hand close to his mouth.

“You can release me now,” she said, her face blank as she refused to break eye contact.

“Are you sure you want me to?”

“You’re an arrogant bastard aren’t you?” she asked sweetly, her lips turning in a mocking smile.

His eyes widened just the slightest at her remark, and then a true smile flitted to his lips, shocking her more than anything else he’d done. “That, I am, Ms. Beaumont, that I am,” he said.

Finally he released her, and she quickly fled the restaurant before he could say or do anything else. When she finally felt she was far enough away to breathe, she stopped and leaned against a wall.

What in the world had she just gotten herself into?

~ Excerpt ~

“It took a long time to find you, Ms. Elton.”
Oh, no. Oh, no. Misty looked up into the steady gray gaze of the giant of a man standing in front of her. No! She was safe. It had been a year — a full year. It was only a few months ago that she had let down her guard, had decided it was safe to live again, had gone back to her natural hair color.
Jesse had moved on, surely. He wouldn’t have stayed single this long. He had to have a woman to boss around — to beat up on, by now. He would still hate her, still want her dead, but he wouldn’t still be searching for her. There was just no possible way.
“I…uh…I don’t know who you’re referring to,” she stuttered, and she crept toward the door to the back room. She was working a crappy job at a fast-food joint. It was nondescript, possibly even considered a bit seedy, and they hadn’t blinked when she’d given them her false name, her poorly done fake ID. She sure as heck wouldn’t eat the food there, not with their lax views on hygiene. They hadn’t even made her get a food handlers card. But, the job was working for her for now, allowing her to save up for her next move – though she wasn’t saving much.
If she could just get through the door, get to her locker, then she’d be able to grab her Taser. She’d started leaving it in her purse just a few months ago. Up until that point, she’d carried it on her, keeping the small, but hopefully effective, device in her pocket, just in reach of her shaking fingers.
This was what happened when you grew lax. This would be what killed her.
“Please don’t be afraid. I’m here to help you.”
“I don’t need help. You have the wrong person,” she said, her voice more steady. He was watching her move toward the door, but he wasn’t taking a menacing step toward her — wasn’t reaching for the gun she knew he had to have on him.
She was close, so close. Inching a bit closer to the door, she kept her eyes on his hands. Those would tell her his next move. She’d become an expert at reading Jesse through his hands. The second they clenched she had known she was in trouble.
This man’s hands were sitting idly at his hips, just kind of hanging there. “Can I please sit down with you for a few minutes of your time? I won’t ask you to go anywhere alone with me.” His voice, she was sure, was supposed to convey trust.
That only made her more suspicious.
“Sorry. I have to get something from the back room.” She took her chances and darted through the door, not looking back as she made her way to her locker. Thankfully, it was open, since it was only her and one other kid on shift, who she actually trusted. She quickly reached into her purse.
When her fingers clasped around the small Taser, she felt her fear dwindling. It wasn’t as deadly as a gun, but it would knock a large man down long enough for her to get away.
        “Ms. Elton, please–”
He’d followed her. And he was grabbing her arm.
Misty didn’t hesitate. She turned back to face him and pushed the button on her weapon. His eyes widened with shock followed by a shot of pain as thousands of volts of electricity traveled through his skin into his stomach.
He released her arm, and Misty took a step, planning on getting the hell away — far away from him and this place. It was time to find a new city. She’d stayed too long, far longer than she had originally planned, but her car had died, and she hadn’t saved enough to move again yet. Almost but not quite. The heck with it now, though. She’d take a bus, and live in a shelter for a while.
She wouldn’t be returned to Jesse, not ever again.
When the man’s hand snaked out and grabbed her leg, tripping her, Misty gasped. She got ready to use the stun gun again, longer this time.

“I don’t think so,” he growled between clenched teeth. He smacked the gun from her hand and pinned her beneath him.
