Happily Ever Ninja by Penny Reid

Title: Happily Ever Ninja
Series: Knitting in the City #5
Author: Penny Reid

There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you.

But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away.

However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true.

Except… not.

When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows?

This is a full length, 100k word novel, and is the 5th book in the Knitting in the City Series. All books in the series can be read as a standalone except book #1.5

It was so hard to read this book after the high I experienced with Ninja Ever After!

I fell in love with both characters in their novella. To me their story was perfect and I didn't want to taint my image of them. So with trepidation, I started Happily Ever Ninja.

Happily Ever Ninja happens closer to fifteen years later. Greg and Fiona are now married and with two kids.  Fiona is dealing with her job, her motherhood and the day to day nuisances.

Greg's job keeps him away from home too often and when he's home there is a disconnect between them and they can't seem to agree on some things including what their kids activities should be.
Don't get me wrong, Greg still loves to debate and their fights were part funny part upsetting. I have no doubts Greg loves Fiona with every fiber of his body. He would do anything for her and sometimes, I felt like Fiona didn't understand this. On the other hand, Fiona had the right to be angry with him on several occasions including small things like the dirty dishes or the laundry. But, just maybe that's why this book is so good. The characters feel like a real couple, with real issues. Neither was perfect and sometimes even smart people can have miscommunications.

I do have to take a moment and talk about Fiona's ex-job. This lady is definitely part Ninja. No qualms about it. I never expected the story to go there (probably because I haven't read the other couples books) and I was shocked but it totally made perfect sense. Tough cookie.

“My heart keeps finding new ways to love you.”

Cliffhanger: No

From the USA Today Best Selling Author of ‘Truth or Beard’

What do a cynical former Marine and a sheltered former Olympic contender have in common?
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
He has a girlfriend and she’s never been kissed.
He’s sullenly sarcastic and she’s earnestly empathetic.
He can’t stop thinking about her.
She knows she should keep her distance.
Nevertheless, when opposites attract the results may be unexpected, but they’re also undeniably magnetic.
‘Ninja at First Sight’ is a standalone, prequel novella (for book 5 of the Knitting in the City Series, ‘Happily Ever Ninja’) and is 40k words.

This novella is the expanded origin story for Greg and Fiona. The first 16k words of this novella are from the short scenes included in 'Scenes from the City', which is no longer for sale.

Oh my gosh! I absolutely loved this novella.
I loved everything about it. The characters, the flow, the story, the romance.

Greg is an ex-marine who is back in college. He is smart, loves to debate, has a British accent and, of course, he's hot!
Con: Greg has a girlfriend.

Our heroine Fiona is smart, quiet and likes to watch people. She is happy to start college and finally be away from home. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of fourteen and pretty much has had no freedom. She picked a college far away from home for a reason. She is also inexperienced in the love department but she is ready to start dating.

From the moment Fiona and Greg meet they know they share a connection. You can feel how they try to avoid it but it's really a losing battle.

I can't recommend Ninja at First Sight enough. I thought the writing was phenomenal. This is my first Penny Reid book and I feel sad for her prior books because I know this is going to be my favorite.

Blurb

In this Brotherhood you live or die by the three-piece patch. For Hold Dawson, Vice-President of the Hells Highwaymen Motorcycle Club, it’s not just black ink tattooed on his body, but the religion he worships, and the law that governs his life. Nothing else matters. Family by choice and not by blood. More sacred than a shared name. Bound by respect. Loyal to death.
Unity. Respect.
Love. Devotion.
Forever.

But there’s another side to this life. One the President, Hold’s own father, lives and regulates by.

Merciless. Wrathful.
Murderous. Dishonest.
Lethal.

It’s blood in and blood out and only one man gets to be king.

Excerpt: Meet Hold
He watched her slender artist’s hand caress her taut, tattooed abdomen, instantly jealous that it wasn’t his own blunt fingers that idly drifted across her silky flesh. Her eyes flickered with awareness to where he stood at the end of the bed watching her. It only made his balls draw up tight. His rock-hard erection jutted outward, thick and long. He couldn’t halt his hand from massaging it with slow, steady jerks. His teeth burrowed painfully into his bottom lip. - Hell's Ink
