The whole first half of The Collectors, I was thinking how are these two storylines going to connect? I was loving both of them on their own but wasn't sure where David Baldacci was going with it. When it finally happened I was like, wow I didn't see that coming. 

The book begins with the murder of the Speaker of the House and then Caleb Shaw's boss, Jonathan DeHaven is also found dead in the Library of Congress's Rare Books room. When Caleb sees his boss's body, Caleb passes out. His three friends, Oliver Stone, Ruben Rhodes, and Milton Farb will go in search of the connection between these two very different set of deaths. 

While the Camel Club is going in one direction, another plot emerges. We're introduced to sexy, smart, independent con artist, Annabelle Conroy who is recruiting a group of men for a con involving an Atlantic City casino owner by the name of Jerry Bagget. Jerry is well known for his lack of compassion and if it is up to him, anyone messing with his casino will pay with their own lives.

When the two stories collided,  I couldn't put the book down. Annabelle was a fantastic asset to the story- and to the Camel Club. I loved her. She created mystery, humor, intrigue, and suspense in every page she appeared. I wasn't a fan of the first book but with the addition of Annabelle and I'm all in. Good job Mr. Baldacci for launching this unforgettable character!

Even though one of the plot lines closes by the end of The Collectors, another one is left wide open, making it impossible for me not to grab the next one in this series.

Another great addition to my Sandra Brown's favorite book list!

Tailspin had me from the first chapter. I couldn't wait to know what was waiting at the end of the tunnel. 

Tailspin begins with a storm and a pilot who likes to pursue challenging flights. He's what we call a freight pilot. He'll fly under any circumstances. When another pilot turns down a job due to weather, Rye Mallett doesn't think twice and says yes. His destination is to fly to Georgia and deliver the cargo to a doctor by the name of Lambert. The cargo he's flying is a black box with unknown contents but he knows the contents have to be important enough to be asked to do so with the current conditions. 

To his surprise, when he gets there, Dr. Lambert is nowhere to be found. Instead, Dr. Brynn O'Neil is there and she wants to take the box. Rye knows something is amiss and he wants to know what's inside the box. He doesn't think that Brynn is telling him the whole truth. Soon it's clear that someone covets the contents inside the box and they will stop at nothing to get it.  

I love Rye and Brynn together. They had plenty of chemistry and attraction to make me believe that after forty-eight hours, they deserved to be together. So many things happened to them. There were plenty of twists to keep my attention and there were more than enough to make me forget about the real world.

Rye was fantastic. Despite his mantra of not getting involved, he couldn't walk away from Brynn. He was protective and resourceful. 

Brynn was a very determined woman. She knew what the right direction to take and no one was going to stand in her way. I respected her. 

Tailspin has plenty of action and romance to satiate all my reader's desires. I was fully involved with the plot and I loved the outcome.

I'm never disappointed when I read a Sandra Brown's book. She has become synonymous with a one-click for me. 

The Switch was an addictive story with enough suspense and romance to make me want to stop doing anything else but read, 

The Setting:

A pair of twins, Melina and Gillian Lloyd are having lunch together. During it, Gillian informs Melina that she has gone through an artificial insemination that morning. Melina is happy for her sister and she knows Gillian's current boyfriend is fine with it too. 

Melina advises she should do something to distract herself. She proposes switching places just like they used to do when they were little. The twins are so identical that no one can tell them apart. Gillian declines. She's not about to behave like a kid again and she heads home instead.

As a media escort, Melina's night assignment is to take Colonel Christopher "Chief" Hart to a gala. Chief is a well-known NASA astronaut whom everyone loves. Melina and "Chief" hit it off from the get-go. They are attracted to each other and by the end of the night, moving to his suite to end the night together sounded like the perfect plan. 

The next morning, Melina's nightmare begins. Her twin sister is found stabbed to death. The writing on the wall implies that someone had seen Melina and Chief together and they had assumed it was Gillian. 

The twin is devastated by her loss and she wants answers. Chief is stricken too. Together they will look for the truth behind the murder. What they discover is something dark and twisted.

My thoughts:

I hated to see one of the twins go. Together they were fun and so very close to each other. But, I guess it was necessary in order for the remaining twin and Chief to go looking for the killer. 

I liked Chief. He was there for her to the end. Chief had his own turmoils in regards to his race and what to do with his future after NASA. He was slow to admit his true feelings but I understood his conflicting emotions.

The big baddie was truly an ugly human if you can call him that. Talk about Narcissistic personality. He checked all the boxes with his grandiose ideas. Sadly, I'm sure there's a crazy guy out there just like him. 

The Switch had two good twists or maybe just one. I guess I can say, I saw it coming but I still enjoyed the reactions it provoked. 

As a side note, I thought The Switch's audio was well done.

I read this book over the weekend in concomitance with the Royal Wedding. I'm sure I was one of the millions of people who got up early to watch Meghan Markle marry Prince Charming. Wait, I meant Prince Harry.

Diana was one of my idols. Her death affected me dearly. Her life was cut so short leaving behind two small children. I've followed her sons' lives and their romances. Harry has always been my favorite. He doesn't have the pressure Will does so he has more freedom to be himself.

When I learned that Meghan was his girlfriend, I was so happy. Meghan was becoming a Princess, just like in the fairy tales. In real life, she's now a Duchess but still a pretty cool Cinderella love story with a twist. After all, she does have the mean half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas. The differences from Cinderella are multiple. Before Meghan married Harry, she was a successful actress. She had a good career, her own blog, over a million followers on social media and her philanthropy was already established.

Andrew Morton wrote Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words and when I saw that he was writing one for Meghan, I was so excited. I wanted to know more about her life. 

I did learn more about Meghan's background, her childhood, her achievements and her career as an actress. Yet, I felt that there were too many holes in her life. Some parts were glossed over. Her marriage and divorce were two of them. At times, I also found the novel to be too dry or judgemental. 

Anyway,  like I said earlier, I did learn more about her life before Harry and I look forward to seeing her in her new capacity as part of the royalty. I wish her a life full of love and success.

I have seen the cover of The Girl In The Ice for a couple of years now. It has been on my TBR as well and I was happily surprised to find out it was available on NetGalley. So of course, I HAD to request it. 

The Girl In The Ice is the first book in the Detective Erika Foster series. 

The prologue pulled me right into the story. A young woman, Andrea Douglas-Brown has been abducted and later on found murdered under the ice of a South London park. Her father is Lord Douglas-Brown, a very influential man. 

DCI Erika Foster is called back to work and ordered to take command of the investigation by Chief Superintendent Marsh. She's a seasoned detective who has been away from the force after her last investigation ended badly. During her last raid, her husband Mark perished and Erika has not recovered from her loss. Getting back to work can help her focus on something else, and for this she's thankful. 

As the investigation progresses and leads start pilling up suggesting the work of a serial killer, Erika continues to find herself in murky waters. Her superiors and the Douglas-Brown family are impeding her investigation at every turn. Still, Erika won't be deterred. The five dead women are counting on her and she won't let them down.

Very good beginning into a police thriller series. I read a lot of them and it's always nice to see another good series beginning to take form. Mr. Bryndza does a good job creating relatable characters. As with other series, the main character is damaged. She also makes some hasty decisions that endanger her life but how else can we find the killer sometimes, right?

The Girl In The Ice had a cohesive storyline with a fast-paced action who kept this reader going.

Memory Man is my first book by David Baldacci.

Memory Man had a great premise. A man who can't forget anything and now has to capture a very deadly man before he kills again.

Amos Decker's life has been changed twice. The first big change in his life happened during his first game as a pro football player. He was hit hard enough that he died and was brought back a few times. His head injury caused him to develop hyperthymesia and synesthesia. He has become an acquired savant. He can't forget anything. After recuperating in a hospital, doing rehab and attending a center with people like him, he decides to become a cop, then a detective. 

The second time his life was forever changed was when he found his wife, daughter and brother in law all murdered in his home. This event, which he can't forget, messed him up so bad that he left his job. When the book begins he's living almost as a homeless and his only source of income is P.I. jobs he takes which are few and far in between. He also has let his appearance go. Long gone is the football player body. Left instead is an unkept overweight blob.

Everything changes when his ex-partner Mary Lancaster comes to tell him that a man by the name of Sebastian Leopold has confessed to killing his family. Amos knows he has to confront this man to see if he's telling the truth. At the same time, when Amos is on the way to the precinct, a massacre is occurring at the local high school in Burlington. His ex-boss asks Amos for help with the investigation. When clues start connecting the murder of his family to the massacre at the high school Amos will need all his abilities to find the murderer who seems to be one step ahead of him always. 

Like I said earlier, pretty good premise. However, I did have some issues with the storyline. I couldn't believe someone who had a perfect memory couldn't figure out why the killer wanted to hurt him so bad. I also couldn't believe the killer waited so long to start his plan against Amos. It bugged me that the secondary characters were portrayed so mediocrely. Neither women were smart enough nor was the FBI. Also, when the culprit was revealed, I didn't buy his reasons.

Regardless of my issues with the story, the writing was good and I do want to continue getting to know Amos better. I already downloaded the next one.

Lethal has a great beginning!

Honor Gilette is baking when her daughter Emily tells her a man is hurt. Honor runs to the rescue. To her shock, he's brandishing a gun and telling Honor that he won't hurt them but he needs information. Honor fears for her daughter's life and she goes along with whatever this man wants in order to keep Emily safe. She recognizes the man as Lee Coburn, a man responsible for the mass murder of seven people the night before. The police are looking for him but instead of disappearing, he's at her front door bringing doubts in regards to her dead husband's integrity. Honor won't believe he was a dirty cop and she would do anything to prove it, including trusting Lee to uncover the truth. 

Lee Coburn is deadly and he will stop at nothing until he finds what he's looking for. He knows he can't trust anyone and he's not inclined to do so until he meets Honor and her daughter. Little by little, they both make him want something he never thought he wanted or needed. When their lives are in danger, he knows he has to act to save them. He doesn't know if he's going to survive it but he sure is going to try to keep them alive. 

I love Honor, Lee, and Emily. Emily with her innocence and sweetness made the big scary guy melt and reading it, put a smile on my face. Honor had a backbone and she was tough when she needed to be. She also supported Lee when she figured out he was telling her the truth. What about tall, dark and deadly? He was confident, resourceful and above all.. lethal. 

I love romantic suspense and Lethal is a perfect example of this genre. We had plenty of crooked individuals to go around. Honor and Lee couldn't trust anyone except each other. I hated the Bookkeeper as well as the twins. They couldn't care less about hurting people. I was wishing them the worst. They were evil with a capital E.

Now, the end....what should I say? I wanted more. I just needed one more scene between Honor and Lee.

This was a great book from beginning to end. Classic Sandra Brown!

I'm a huge fan of SB. All her novels are awesome. They have great suspense with great romance too.  Friction is not any different. 

Friction begins when Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt is attending the custody hearing for his daughter Georgia. Crawford made many mistakes but now he's ready to regain custody of Georgia. Just when he's about to hear the verdict from Judge Holly Spencer, a masked gunman shows up in the courtroom and starts firing. Crawford goes into Texas Ranger mode and protects the judge.

Holly Spencer is in a full campaign trying to make her judge seat a permanent one. Her contender is annoying and a bully and she knows she will do a better job than him. Holly lives in a black and white world. She's a rule follower. She follows the law and she wants everyone to do the same. Meeting Crawford will change her mind.

As with other books by Sandra Brown, Friction is action-packed and there was a sense of urgency. Urgency to get to the bottom of who was behind the shooting and trying to stop him/her before more people get hurt.  I was turning the pages like crazy because I needed to know. I love when I'm so taken by a book that nothing else matters. Sandra Brown always achieves this with me. 

The only drawback was the lack of Epilogue.

Sandra Brown is the master of combining romance and suspense! 

Seeing Red has a great beginning. From the first couple of chapters, Mrs. Brown pulled this reader into the story. I was hooked by the circumstances surrounding the meeting between the main characters.

Kerra Bailey is a reporter. Her next big story is the twenty anniversary of the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel. Her intention is to interview the man who everyone remembers as saving survivors while exiting the building. Over the years, Major Trapper has been loved and idolized. After all, he's a hero. Kerra knows this is the perfect time for the interview besides she has a personal reason to meet him too. However, the Major doesn't like to do interviews anymore and to convince him, she'll have to convince his estranged son to tag along.

John Trapper is a P.I. He used to work for the ATF until he got too close to the Pegasus bombing case. Before he was fired, he quit. When the bombing happened, he was just a child. That day he lost his father to fame. Major Trapper forgot about his family at home. John felt abandoned by him and their relationship was never the same. If anything, it got worse when John quit the ATF. When Kerra comes snooping around, he wants to send her packing but he realizes she won't give up. He knows she has an advantage no other reporter has.

I enjoyed Seeing Red. I liked the idea that John was down on his luck when the book first starts. You have to wonder why he was wasting his potential. He was smart and he knew something was off with the Pegasus bombing. Once Kerra and Major Trapper's lives were in danger, nothing was going to stop his search for answers.

Seeing Red had plenty of twists. Even if you knew or suspected some of them, you couldn't guess them all. I like that. It made for an interesting story. In classic Sandra Brown's style, I wasn't sure what was going to happen next.

“In addition to being bad-boy wrong, etcetera, know what else I am? Smart. And I have a built-in, fool-proof manure detector, and everything you just said is pure bullshit.”
