Seize Today by Pintip Dunn

Title: Seize Today
Series: Forget Tomorrow #3
Author: Pintip Dunn
Publication Date: October 3, 2017
Publisher: Entangled Teen

Seventeen-year-old Olivia Dresden is a precognitive. Since different versions of people’s futures flicker before her eyes, she doesn’t have to believe in human decency. She can see the way for everyone to be their best self-if only they would make the right decisions. No one is more conflicted than her mother, and Olivia can only watch as Chairwoman Dresden chooses the dark, destructive course every time. Yet Olivia remains fiercely loyal to the woman her mother could be.

But when the chairwoman captures Ryder Russell, the striking and strong-willed boy from the rebel Underground, Olivia sees a vision of her own imminent death…at Ryder’s hand. Despite her bleak fate, she rescues Ryder and flees with him, drawing her mother’s fury and sparking a romance as doomed as Olivia herself. As the full extent of Chairwoman Dresden’s gruesome plan is revealed, Olivia must find the courage to live in the present-and stop her mother before she destroys the world.

This is a good ending to the series! Although, I think Mrs. Dunn left enough material to consider a spinoff. Well, a girl can only hope.

Seize Today brings back the characters from prior books, Callie and Logan, Jessica and Tanner and it provides us with a new main couple: Olivia and Ryder.

Olivia's the Chairwoman Dresden's daughter. Her mother has never shown her love and despite the way she treats her, Olivia is always hoping her mother decides to do the right thing. Olivia is the only true precognitive in existence. She can see different pathways a person can take in their future. This, of course, has shown her things, she rather would have never known. For ten years, she secluded herself from the world but lately, she has spent time with Jessica, her mother's assistant. In most of the pathways, Olivia knows helping Jessica will help them save lives.

Ryder Russell is Mikey's adopted son. He's also Jessica's best friend or was until Jessica betrayed him. Ryder has a hard time trusting people. There's an event in his childhood that fomented his distrust. When he's captured and Olivia helps him escape, he doesn't want to trust her but he also doesn't want to part ways with her. He can tell how lonely Olivia is which tugs at his heartstrings.

Seize Today was full of action, emotion and sci-fi components that had me turning the pages. I've liked all the characters in this series and it was nice to see how the prior relationships were progressing as well as giving some needed love to two lonely souls. Both Olivia and Ryder had a bad childhood. Ryder was saved by Mickey and Angela while Olivia was not as lucky. It gave me pleasure to see Olivia's character opening up and fighting for her friends. Defying the Chairwoman didn't come easy for her but she did what needed to be done.

Kudos to Pintip Dunn for creating a great fantasy with memorable characters and interesting plotlines.

"In every pathway, and every time, yes."

Cliffhanger: No

"Are you sifting through my possible pathways?" he asks, his voice husky.

I freeze. But if I'm a block of ice, his fingers do their job, tracing my lips again and again until I melt. "How…how do you know?"

"Your eyes," he says. "They dilate when you're reaching into the future. I'm starting to learn when you're not here."

I blink. Nobody's ever told me that before.

"You…noticed?" I ask.

"I notice everything about you," he says easily. "So, tell me. What did you see in our possible futures?" His voice is low and liquid, and it reaches inside me and caresses parts I didn't know existed. "What did I do? More importantly, what did you like?"

Heat floods my face. "What, exactly, are we talking about?"

"I don't know." His eyes gleam wickedly. "What do you think we're talking about?"

"Future pathways," I snap. If I have to electro-whip my attention back on track, I'll do it, damn the Fates. "I see everything from me slapping you to…" I trail off, and my cheeks flame even hotter. Oh my. I can't possibly put into words the images flying through my head like a hailstorm.

"Now I'm really intrigued." He moves his hand to my hair, tugging slightly. I feel the tension all the way to my toes. "Are you really not going to tell me? Because, you know, then I'll have to guess."

"I'm not going to tell you," I whisper.

His lips curve in a mischievous grin that makes me want to tuck him in my pocket and keep him forever. And then, while I'm still reeling from his cuteness, he leans in.

I'm not ready. My mouth is partway open, and I'm in the middle of a breath. He kisses me anyway. I shut my mouth in a hurry. Lips, so soft. His back and shoulders, so hard. Holy Fates, that was his tongue. His tongue, slipping between my teeth. Sparks. So many sparks, igniting in the air around us.

"How's this?" he whispers against my mouth. "Did you see this in our future?"

I nod helplessly.

He moves closer, scooping me up and shifting me on the mattress so that he can lie next to me. Our foreheads touch; so do our knees. "And this? Was this in some of our pathways?"

I nod again, but that doesn't seem to satisfy him anymore. His eyes intent on mine, he catches my lower lip between his teeth. "Do you like it?"

Do I like it? What kind of question is that?

I've tasted every emotion in our world. I know the sorrow a mother feels when she clasps her deceased baby to her chest. I know the pride of a gold-star athlete when he stands on a podium and accepts North Amerie's highest honor. I know the rage that silences the heart of a murderer as he cuts short another's life.

I even know kisses—hot, frenzied, passionate, fumbling, sweet, aching, innocent kisses. I've seen them all in other people’s futures, thousands of kisses, millions of kisses, as varied as the pathways themselves.

And yet…and yet…I've felt nothing like kissing Ryder. Even the vision of this moment itself.

So, yeah, I like it. It scares me how much I like it.

Before Tomorrow by Pintip Dunn

Title: Before Tomorrow
Author: Pintip Dunn
Series: Forget Tomorrow #1.5
Publisher: Entangled TEEN
Release Date: October 31, 2016

In a world where all seventeen-year-olds receive a memory from their future selves, Logan Russell's vision is exactly as he expects—and exactly not. He sees himself achieving his greatest wish of becoming a gold-star swimmer, but strangely enough, the vision also shows him locking eyes with a girl from his past, Callie Stone, and experiencing an overwhelming sense of love and belonging.

Logan’s not sure what the memory means, but soon enough, he learns that his old friend Callie is in trouble. She’s received an atypical memory, one where she commits a crime in the future. According to the law, she must be imprisoned, even though she's done nothing wrong. Now, Logan must decide if he'll give up his future as a gold-star swimmer and rescue the literal girl of his dreams. All he'll have to do is defy Fate.

The novella is written from Logan's POV. It starts from the moment that he turns seventeen and his future memory is given to him. In the memory, he realizes he will be a gold star swimmer but also he sees Callie in his future, the girl he hasn't spoken to in six years.

Logan also has to deal with his feelings about his future memory and his parents learning about it. He believes his father wouldn't have been happy if the memory wasn't a successful one.

I was excited to read Logan's POV. It shows how much he cares for Callie and how guilty he feels about what he let happened to his brother.  This only makes me more excited about the next book in Forget Tomorrow series.

Remember Yesterday by Pintip Dunn

TitleRemember Yesterday
SeriesForget Tomorrow #2
AuthorPintip Dunn
PublisherEntangled Teen
Release DateOctober 4, 2016
Genre: YA Sci Fi

Remember Yesterday is the sequel to the NYT Bestselling and RITA™ Award-winning book, Forget Tomorrow.

The sequel to the sci-fi hit Forget Tomorrow is a twisting, turning roller-coaster ride—the perfect sci-fi futuristic read.

Sixteen-year-old Jessa Stone is the most valuable citizen in Eden City. Her psychic abilities could lead to significant scientific discoveries, if only she’d let TechRA study her. But ten years ago, the scientists kidnapped and experimented on her, leading to severe ramifications for her sister, Callie. She’d much rather break into their labs and sabotage their research—starting with Tanner Callahan, budding scientist and the boy she loathes most at school.

The past isn’t what she assumed, though—and neither is Tanner. He’s not the arrogant jerk she thought he was. And his research opens the door to the possibility that Jessa can rectify a fatal mistake made ten years earlier. She’ll do anything to change the past and save her sister—even if it means teaming up with the enemy she swore to defeat.

"love is timeless."

I read Forget Tomorrow and I was looking forward to continuing the saga. Of course, I didn't read the blurb. I wanted to be surprised....and OMG...was I shocked. This book was Fantastic!

It has been ten years since Logan helped Jessa escape and Callie did what she thought was best for the world. Jessa is now a seventeen-year-old teenager. She passes her time with her best friend Ryder and doing what she can to save and free the mice from the lab experiments. She misses her sister dearly and she's trying to improve her relationship with her mother.

When Jessa is bitten by one of the enhanced mice, it seems to amplify her power. Jessa starts receiving a vision and she knows she must pursue it. To get to this area, she will enlist the help of Tanner Callahan, a boy her age but also a scientist making him her enemy. It doesn't matter that he seems to have a heart, has a fine body and makes her feel new things.

Tanner Callahan lost his parents when he was too young. The only life he knows is the one he was taught to care for. Science is his mantra. Enter Jessa and now Tanner is not sure what's right anymore.

"you matter too much for me to pretend what we had was nothing."

Remember Yesterday is so good! I was hooked to the pages. It was a thrilling ride that I didn't want to end. Pintip Dunn has created an amazing world building it with multidimensional characters. I love the action, the suspense and the romance in this novel. It had everything I want in a fantasy world.

Jessa was an extraordinary young girl. It was a piece of cake to root for her. She was smart and caring. She had her insecurities but they were all based on the information she had. Her love for her sister is strong and beautiful.

Oh...Tanner.. Sexy Tanner.. with great Abs Tanner and super Smart Brain Tanner. He was the perfect match for Jessa. He made me swoon for most of the book. I adored him.

“You stay the boy you were meant to be. I wouldn’t change a thing about you. You hear?
Not. A. Single. Thing.”

I need the next book ASAP.  I hope I don't have to wait a year to read the next book.

10 ways the Forget Tomorrow world is different from our own

1. The most important day in your life is your seventeenth birthday, the day you receive your future memory. Thus, the entire school system is organized around this day. Grades are named by the time remaining until you receive your memory. The T-minus five class, for example, is five years before your seventeenth birthday and is equivalent to the seventh grade.

2. Instead of alphabetical order, students are organized by their birthdays. In school, students are called by their birthdays. "October 28," for example, is Callie and Marisa's name, and "October 26" is Logan's name. Only friends are allowed to call each other by their given names.

3. After you receive your memory, an hourglass insignia is tattooed on your wrist, right above where the black chip containing your future memory is implanted. This chip can be scanned by prospective employers, loan officers, even would-be parents-in-law, and it serves as your biggest recommendation.

4. Most food is prepared in the Meal Assembler, a machine where you stick in plastic-wrapped trays of ingredients and out pops the finished product. Food that is prepared by hand is very rare. Callie's passion is cooking, and her dream is to be a Manual Chef at one of the highly exclusive eating establishments.

5. A small percentage of the population has a psychic ability. These powers must remain hidden, as TechRA (the Technology Research Agency) picks up anyone with a reported ability to study in their labs. Newton, Einstein, and Darwin were all confirmed psychics.

6. Religion is not illegal, but it is unnecessary. Future memory gives people comfort, hope, and reassurance -- all the things the pre-boom people looked to their gods to provide.

7. The latest fashion trend is to dress like the people before the technology boom, where vision, bones, teeth, etc. can be fixed instantly. So, kids wear fake plaster casts and hearing aids as if they are accessories. They even glue tiny metal strips to their teeth.

8. Reflective patio furniture doubles as solar panels, in order to convert every drop of sunshine into energy.

9. The showers are luxurious, with water nozzles above, all around, and underneath. Buttons give you the option to mix soap with the water or to add a scent. After your shower, the nozzles will switch from water to heated air to dry your body.

10. Rather than using perfume, you can take pills to change your scent.

There you have it! Ten ways the Forget Tomorrow world is different from our own. What do you think? Would you like to live in this world?

Forget Tomorrow by Pintip Dunn

Title: Forget Tomorrow
Author: Pintip Dunn
Series: Forget Tomorrow, #1
Release Day: Nov 3rd

Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided...by your future self.

It's Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she's eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they're meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist.

Or in Callie's case, a criminal.

In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a hellish prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes.

But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all—Callie, herself.

Seventeen-year-old Callie is about to learn her future. In this world, when you turn seventeen, you are given a future memory. You can learn if you are going to be a gifted musician, a champion swimmer and even if your are going to be a criminal.

Callie is expecting to learn she is going to be a Master Chef. She loves to cook and that would be a fantastic future. However, this is not what she sees. What her future holds is her worst nightmare. Running away and hiding sounds like a good plan but maybe turning herself in to the authorities would be better for everyone.

Just one person stands in her way...Logan. Logan is the boy she used to have a crush on until five years ago when he stopped talking to her. Now, he's there for her and he wants to help her. By helping her, he reveals his and his family's secrets placing himself in danger.

Callie tries to fight her future but when her sister is taken, she knows she must act. It doesn't matter that she might end up being where she's terrified to be... in close proximity to her sister again.

I was excited to read this book. The premise of learning your future and deciding to fulfill it or change it is intriguing to me. Callie knew her memory shouldn't become real and she tried to fight it the best way she could. But, how much does fate play a part in our decisions?

If anything this book left me with too many questions. Yes, I want to know what happens to Callie, but, I'm wondering if her dad is out there,  If Angela is going to change her mind, if Callie has more powers than she realizes, if two receivers can learn to communicate?

I'm looking forward to the next book  in the series. Bring it on!
