“Come on.” Aidan stepped back and took her hand. “I have something to show you.”

He led the way up the back stairs and through a door she hadn’t explored yet. Charlie’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of candles flickering on a table laid out with a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a whole spread of Chinese takeout.

She let go of his hand and wandered over to peer into the boxes. “How did you know that crispy pork belly was my favorite?” Just like that, the pieces clicked together. She snapped her fingers. “You had your sister feel me out?” She’d thought Kiera had been asking about her favorite food so they could pick a local place next time they ventured out of the house. “Shady. Very shady.”

“I am a mob boss, after all.” He came around the table and poured them both a glass of wine. “I have it on good authority that this cab pairs well with Chinese takeout.”

“How classy of you.” It was like stepping into another realm of existence as she sat down and accepted the glass of wine while he filled two plates. When Aiden had said that he wanted a dinner date with her, she’d assumed that meant dressing to the nines and going out somewhere fancy. She said as much.

He snorted. “Eating out always serves a purpose. Either you’re making a point, or ensuring you’re seen by someone specific, or conducting a business meeting. We’ve been making points and playing parts since we met. I’d like to try something new—having a relaxing conversation. Just me and you, Aiden and Charlie, not the leader of the O’Malley clan and the former-cop-turned-fake-fiancée.”

“Do you think that’s even possible?” Such a short time together, and it was clear they both had a boatload of issues. It was easy enough to ignore when they were banging each other’s brains out or pretending to be something they weren’t, but holding down a conversation without those masks in place? She wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

Even though I've been intrigued by this author's other books I hadn't read any until, Bad Boy. The synopsis really jumped out at me, so I decided to take the plunge because I've read some of the rave reviews about Elliot Wake's writing. My thoughts are still little jumbled, so here it goes.

Ren is transgender and trying to live his life as a man, I say trying because it seems like not everyone is ready accept him this way. Yes, he was born in a woman's body, but he knew he wasn't meant to be a woman and did something about it. This story just got to me from the beginning! Ren can be hard to love sometimes, but it's not because he just wants to be angry and depressed. He wants people to love him and accept him! I think anyone can understand that. He's part of the Black Iris group and from the beginning he is being kept out of the loop, and he wants, no needs to figure out why! Why would his closest friends keep him in silence. When he meets Tam there is something between them from the beginning. At first it's just them lashing out at each other but it grows to something more, something tangle, something fierce! And she's the only one he can really trust when accusations arise.

Everyone in this story has either been hurt or has hurt someone in the past. Being part of Black Iris has been part of who they are, but they can never fully heal that way. Tam and Ren's relationship is so passionate. I could feel that passion jumping out of the pages, it made my heartbeat accelerate and my arms tingle. Tam is just what Ren needs! She never treated him different because he's transgender, she always saw him as a man.

This story delves into some hard issues, and at times can be heart wrenching to read. It's jam packed with that dire urge for revenge, but it's also about learning to love yourself. Finding out who your true friends are is important. Surrounding yourself with the people who love you and accept you as you are, and finally being happy. Bad Boy is a perfectly written story!

She twirls the pen in her hand. “So who caused the contamination today? Was it Floyd or Kevin the oily electrician you tried to put a chokehold on?”

“Oily Kevin needed the chokehold. Agree or disagree?”

She nods. “Completely agree. There’s so much agreement in me, I can’t imagine how much more I could possibly agree.”

“The chokehold was one hundred percent certifiably necessary,” I add, since Kevin had hit on her when he stopped by a few weeks ago. Here’s the thing—Natalie could dropkick him in the blink of an eye. She could slam him to the ground herself. But that shit he pulled with the leering and lewd comments does not fly with me. I would have done the same if a dude tried to get fresh with my little sister, Josie, at the bakery where she works. So I’d dropped a hand on Kevin’s shoulder, Vulcan style, and promptly escorted him the fuck out of my office. No one, and I mean no one, gets to put the moves on my employees.

“It was Floyd today,” I tell her, then give her the safe-for-work version of the story—the one about Floyd’s client conquests, not his comments about banging assistants. There’s no need to have that hanging out there in the air between us. Can’t plant that forbidden idea in her head.

That risky, dangerous, dirty, filthy, completely fucking alluring idea. My eyes roam the office briefly, and I catalogue all the places that are calling out to be christened. Her desk, her chair, the floor…

Just like that, my head is a wild rumpus of inappropriate ideas. Exactly what it shouldn’t be. It’s like horny aliens have invaded my mind.

But I’m not Floyd. I can do better, so I picture a vise, jam the images into it, and crush them out of my mind. The dirty images and the horny aliens, too.

“And then I escorted him out of Lila’s home and said see ya later,” I tell her, finishing the story, as I drag a hand through my dark brown hair. “Like, in another lifetime later.”

“Hmmm…” she says.

“Hmm, that’s great, or hmm, why did I give one of our suppliers the heave-ho?”

“Hmm, as in your story gives me a good idea. Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”

“What’s that?”

Her eyes sparkle. Hers are a lighter shade than my dark blue. “Want me to find a new hinge supplier?”

The idea is beyond perfect. I smack my palm against the edge of her desk enthusiastically. “Yes. And for the record, you’re brilliant and beauty—“ I cut the last word off so it sounds like a low bass note. Note to self: Don’t call her beautiful when you’re berating other men for hitting on her at work.

She’s watching me, waiting for me to finish my sentence, and somehow I twist the words into a new compliment, as I say, “Brilliant, and…bountiful.”

Bountiful? Seriously? What the hell was that? Maybe she won’t notice.

No such luck.

“Bountiful?” she asks, skepticism thick in her tone. As it fucking should be. “I’m bountiful?”

I nod, going with it, owning it. “Your brain. It’s like a cornucopia of ideas. It’s a Thanksgiving bounty. It’s bountiful,” I say, because I’ve got to sell this cover-up.

She squares her shoulders. “If you say so, Hammer.” And this bountiful brain was two steps ahead today. I already found a new supplier. I called around, talked to some of our colleagues, and got some great recommendations. I already have a new hinge guy lined up.”

My smile spreads quickly. “Damn. You are three steps ahead of me.”

“A good assistant should be.”

I went into this book completely blind. I saw the cover, liked it, and decided I would read it!

At first I was a little thrown because I thought for some reason that the characters would be older, especially with the shenanigans that takes place in the first couple chapters, but as I kept reading it really didn't bother me at all.

Ellie is in her senior year of high school and Jamie has just been released from juvenile detention after four years. They meet and have a one night stand, but that isn't quite enough for either of them. Jamie is so adorable! He is so unsure of himself when it comes to Ellie. He has had a rough past and doesn't think he's good enough at times, but he will be damned if he lets her go. He is so sweet, and thoughtful, and perfect! Ellie is also done with her superficial friends and is drawn to Jamie. He is so raw, and real, and completely different from anyone she has ever known.

Moseley had me swooning over Jamie, that it made me feel like a bit of a creeper! He is so young and innocent in his own way despite what he's been through. I love the way the relationship grows and the sweet sweet moments. Jamie is an old soul and he seems to calm Ellie.

I'm very glad that this is one of the first two books I decided to read by Kristy Moseley, she has me hooked on this story and I am dreading the wait until Worth Fighting For releases.
