Maybe in Another Life
by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Three words to sum up this book: unique, intoxicating, and unputdownable!
MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE by Taylor Jenkins Reid is unlike any other story I’ve read before.  The characters were so developed and relatable. I honestly could not think of anything else until I finished this book.

Hannah Martin is twenty-nine years old and her life is quite the rollercoaster.  She’s jumped form city to city never fully putting down roots.  When she reaches rock bottom after a horrible breakup with a married man, she decides to move back to her hometown of Los Angeles.  Her best friend, Gabby, decides to throw her a welcome home party at a local bar.  That’s where she runs into her high school boyfriend and one true love, Ethan.  When it’s time to leave she’s offered a ride home by Gabby and Ethan.

What if she goes back home with Gabby?
What if she allows Ethan to take her home later?

Hannah is able to explore both options in this gripping novel about consequences, love, soul mates and finding yourself in the most difficult of times.

“Doesn’t it scare you?” I ask her.  “To think that you might have gone in the wrong direction? And missed the life you were destined for?”

Gabby thinks about it, taking my question seriously. “Not really,” she says.

“Why not?”

“I don’t know, I guess because life’s short?  And you just kind of have to get on with it.”

I. Love. This. Book.  I love Taylor Jenkins Reid.  Her brain is amazing to come up with this extremely unique story.  I’ve never read anything like MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE. Ever.

From the first page I was pulled into the story by her flowing writing and her exquisite storytelling.  Hannah is flawed.  She is 29. She doesn’t have a car.  She doesn’t have a house.  She doesn’t have a solid profession.  She was a dating a married man.  She’s honestly at a difficult point in her life.  Watching her navigate and try to turn her life around was really inspiring.

The secondary characters were also to die for.  I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters and some of the conversations had me laughing out loud.

If you’re looking for a remarkable story about love, redemption and life pick up MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE.  I promise you won’t be able to put it down.

5/5 FANGS
