Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Hardcover391 pages

The one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet.

Classic movie fan Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online as Alex. Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a.k.a. her new archnemesis. But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever it is she’s starting to feel for Porter.

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

I heard this book was being described as a modern retelling of "You've Got Mail" and I was automatically SOLD. AND THIS BOOK DEFINITELY LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS. IT WAS SO STINKING CUTE. I ADORED IT!!!!

Alex, Approximately was a book full of heart. This book had tons of fluffy and adorable moments, but it also had some dark and heartbreaking moments. Every element of this book was perfectly balanced. I never felt bored or annoyed while reading this book. THIS BOOK WAS PURE PERFECTION. I have never laughed, smiled, swooned, or teared up so many times while reading a book. It is safe to say that I felt all the feels.

I really appreciated the fact that the author didn't just gloss over the family lives of the characters in this book. The families were all present and very important to the story. I loved seeing the families interact and live their day-to-day lives. Also, the appreciation for movies in this book was amazing. Each chapter started with a quote from different movies, which I thought was a cute touch. Now, I want to watch every movie this book mentioned....maybe with Porter? ;)

The characters in this book were simply precious. Bailey was a witty and introverted girl. She was a bit awkward at times, and it was so endearing. I really connected with her character. She was someone who was easy to love and root for. Porter, oh, Porter. I love him so freaking much. HE TURNED ME INTO A PILE OF MUSH SO MANY TIMES. He was just so funny, charming, thoughtful, and swoony. I fell in love with him the minute he was introduced. I HAVE NO SHAME ABOUT IT.

The romance. UGH, IT WAS MAGICAL AND BEAUTIFUL AND PURE. The romance developed at such a wonderful and believable pace. I wanted Porter and Bailey to kiss like 5 chapters into the book, but the wait for their kisses was SO WORTH IT. THEIR ROMANCE IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF, OKAY?!?!? MY SKIN IS CLEAR, MY PLANTS ARE THRIVING, THE SUN IS SHINING, ALL THANKS TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP.

I am obsessed with this book. I could go on and on about how perfect this book was. Basically, YOU NEED TO READ IT....PLEASE.
