Dirty by Kylie Scott

Title: Dirty
Series: Dive Bar, #1
Author: Kylie Scott
Release Day: April 19, 2016
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she'd marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong-maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

I was so excited to read Dirty.  I love the Stage Dive series and I couldn't wait to get my hands dirty!

Lydia Green is about to get married when she gets a video sent to her cell phone. It turns out her fiance is cheating and Lydia does the only sensible thing. She escapes into the neighbor's land after climbing a fence. She is quite devastated. She thought he was going to make all her dreams come true. With this single event, she looses a fiancee and her job. Lydia enters the neighbor's home and hides in his bathroom. She is having a self-pity party when Vaughn finds her hiding.

Vaughan lost his band and now he's back in town to sell his childhood home and his plan is to move forward somewhere else. He does want to spend some time with his sister and while he's in town he can lend her a working hand. The Dive Bar is where Stage Dive began their career. It is also now owned by Vaughans' sister, Eric and Pat.

In order to help Vaughan's sister and to make some extra money, Lydia starts working at the Dive too while living with Vaughan. This makes it harder for her to avoid developing feelings for him. However, she is aware this could not be anything serious since they both want to move away from town.

~~

What I like the most about this romance was the heroine. Lydia was funny, sarcastic and sassy. She was placed in a terrible situation and she tried to deal with it the best way she could. She was lucky enough to find Vaughan's home and later on, get his support.

I liked Vaughan from books past. He was sweet and he cared for Lydia except for one scene that bothered me just after they slept together the second time. He pushed Lydia away for no good reason. She was way more understanding than I could've been. Still, I'm still excited to read the rest of the series.

I love that Mal had a small cameo. He is my favorite guy in Kylie's books.

Cliffhanger: No

I absolutely adored Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series, so this book was an automatic read for me. Kylie's Stage Dive series was hilarious, sexy, romantic, and addictive. This book had some of those elements, but it ended up falling flat for me. I didn't hate this book, but it definitely didn't live up to my expectations.

I thought the idea of this story, a run away bride, was hilarious. The first couple pages had me feeling bad for the main character, Lydia, but also laughing out loud at her inner dialogue. However, I felt like the meeting between Lydia and Vaughan in the beginning of the story was...odd. It just felt strange and unbelievable. The way they reacted felt like insta-love. I wasn't really digging it, but I continued reading anyway.

The characters were fine, but nothing extremely memorable in my opinion. I liked that Lydia was a plus sized woman! It is nice to see diversity in body types in books. I also really liked that she spoke her mind. Sometimes she came off as a little too brass in my opinion, but I appreciated her spunk. Vaughan was was the angsty and mysterious musician. I thought he was really sexy! He definitely had me swooning and fanning myself off.

The romance was a little lack luster. Sure, there were romantic moments and steamy scenes, but I didn't really believe the romance at times. I didn't feel the connection between Lydia and Vaughan. I think their relationship needed a little more development or maybe more chemistry? It's hard to say. There was just something missing in their relationship.

Kylie always does a great job at creating a side cast of characters that we grow to love. Kylie creates a group of characters that you can tell truly care for each other, which is fantastic. They are like one big family, and I eat that up! I am so excited to see those characters in future books, and see romance develop for them.

This book had some funny, heartwarming, and sexy moments. I didn't LOVE this book, but I still had a fun time reading it. I definitely will check out the rest of this series, because I have complete faith in Kylie Scott!

Kylie Scott is back at it again with a brand new series. The first book, DIRTY, was everything I hoped it to be, and expect from Kylie.

On the day of her wedding, Lydia gets a video of her fiancé and the best man, hooking up. Devastated, she sneaks out of the house, jumps the fence, breaks into another house and sits in the tub until she can figure out what to do.

The house belongs to the very hot Vaughan. He’s home for the first time in a long time, and finds a woman in his bathtub. After he figures out why she’s there he allows her to stay as long as she needs. Neither of them expect to get caught up in each other, especially when they both know staying in the city is temporary.

**

“You’re beautiful, Lydia. Special. Usually things with me are just casual, hook-ups. No more than a night or two.” Mouth serious and gaze somber he paused, searching for the right words. “You’re not that. And it’s not just that we spent a bit more time together. It’s you. You make me wish things were different.”

I LOVED this book. I felt the typical rhythm that I come to expect from a Kylie Scott novel. I literally read this book as quickly as I could. I couldn’t put it down until it was over.

Lydia was such a lovable heroine. She’s tough but still vulnerable, and she and Vaughan had some serious chemistry. She was very “go with the flow”, and that allowed for a lot of hilarious conversations between her and Vaughan.

I’m so excited for the other books in this series. Kylie Scott is amazing at making you fall in love with not only the main characters, but also the secondary characters, and I’m so excited to see where their stories are going to go.

Holy Moly I did not want this book to end! Even now a few days after reading it the story is still stuck in my mind. I remember when I picked up my first Kylie Scott book almost two years ago I was in a reading slump, that book was Lick and I read it in one sitting. Needless to say my reading slump was over and I have been a Scott fan ever since! When I heard that we would be getting a new series and that Vaughan would be getting a story I was ecstatic! I loved him in the Stage Dive series, and always felt that he needed his own story.

This story started off perfect in every way! As soon as I started reading I was hooked. Lydia runs away on her wedding day, and when I say runs away I mean literally, RUNS, right to Vaughan's house. Of course she doesn't know it's Vaughan's house but she does as soon as he finds her a mess in his bathtub. I felt myself empathizing with Lydia because of her misfortune and I loved her personality. She was witty and sarcastic, sweet and just a good person. The way Vaughan acts when they first meet also cracks me up because he seems to be preoccupied with staring at her breasts! He is indeed a boob man and isn't shy about it. Lydia is plus size and very aware of it, but Vaughan puts her at ease when they're together, gahhh I loved it!

Yet again I loved every character in this new series, and am very excited to see where it goes. There is so much up the air with all of characters right now, but the stories are coming together quite well. And of course I loved the cameo appearance from Mal! He is still my favorite Kylie Scott character to date! He just added the whipped topping on the cake!

Kylie is a long time fan of erotic love stories and B-grade horror films. She demands a happy ending and if blood and carnage occur along the way then all the better. Based in Queensland, Australia with her two children and one delightful husband, she reads, writes and never dithers around on the internet.
