Donna Young might still be considered a high school nobody, and an invisible facet to her town, but that doesn’t change the fact that her life is in danger, thanks to her shocking powers. Living secretly amongst the enemy isn’t easy, especially when she used to love the most special of them all: Ryan Applegate.
Ryan’s facade of being the most attractive and richest athlete in town is growing thin. Making his father proud and enhancing his abilities is all he thinks about … that, and Donna Young. She is the childhood crush whom he has been ordered to leave alone. But if he does, then how can he figure out what is wrong with her? And why she looks at him now like he is a monster?
When a dangerous event occurs at the power plant, an new adventure sparks for everyone. Will Donna be able to unlock all the mysteries surrounding those she loves, while fighting to stay alive? Or will Ryan and his team stop her, dooming everything? Only one truth is certain … nobody is who they think they are.
This book picks up right where the first book, "Shock Me", left off on a crazy cliffhanger. In this book Donna, Rebecca, and Spencer do not know whom they can trust anymore. The trio starts to unravel secrets about the Biomax Soldiers, and they get into more and more danger the deeper they dig into information. This book was full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There was nonstop action in this book. Some secrets were revealed that blew my mind, but there were also questions that were left unanswered that are making me crave the next book. One of the things I love about this book is that the Biomax Soldiers aspect is something I have never read about before. The Biomax Soldiers and the mystery with them add such an exciting element to this book series. The romance is minimal, but there are definitely hints of romance in the book. I am looking forward to seeing the romance develop throughout the series.
This book was once again written in multiple points of views, which I was happy about. I love being able to read from the eyes of all the different characters. My favorite character is Randy, so I really enjoyed any chapter with his point-of-view. Randy is a bit of a bad boy, but he is always trying to do what is right and protect his brother, Ryan. I just really love his character. Donna, Rebecca, and Spencer were also just as great in this book. I love their friendship, and they really learn to trust each other even more in this book. I really want to completely love Ryan, but I have a serious love hate relationship with him. Sometimes he was so cute when he wanted to help Donna that I wanted to hug him, but other times I wanted to smack him. We have a rocky relationship right now, but I am hoping that I will be completely in love with him by the end of the next book. Speaking of the next book, I cannot wait to read it! This book ended on a cliffhanger, so I am dying to get the next book.
I would recommend this book and series to anyone who is looking for a thrilling young adult paranormal read. It is an exciting book that will completely suck you in.

Exclusive Sneak Peek at SPARKS by Ashley C. Harris
“My dad’s going to try to take the memories away from you, and keep us far apart from each other,” Ryan whispered frantically as a scared Donna found herself hugging him because she didn’t know what else to do. “To protect you.”
“No, please, we have to find a way to convince him,” she tried to say as their faces came strangely close. As close as they had been when Ryan had kissed her.
“Please... Never forget, Donna. Remember. I’ll never give up. You can’t either when the grayness comes, even if it all gets mixed up, try to remember, remember me.”
“Ryan, how could I ever forget you or what you really are!”
And then men were coming up the trees and there was this short man waiting at the tree’s stump. He was staring up at them.
“Saul,” she heard Ryan say as his face turned angry and animal like, and men came toward him.

"Memorable characters and plot momentum will keep the reader fully engaged right up to the pulse-pounding, dramatic conclusion with a stunning ending that I didn’t see coming! Shock Me is a gripping beginning to a new series. I, for one, look forward to the future adventures of these characters."
"...I was still shocked (no pun intended) at what all happened at its climax. I won't spoil it because it needs to be read to be fully appreciated! If you enjoy YA lit, suspense, action, a little sci-fi mixed with fantasy, then go pick up a copy of this book. As far as first in series go, it hooked me right away and I can't wait to see just where the author takes it from here. Not to mention the awesome semi-cliffhanger!!!! So Please, oh please, hurry book two!"
