Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

“I lied to you about a lot of things....but I meant every apology.”

Scarlet was so much better than Cinder!

The book introduces Scarlet who's in search of her missing grandmother who has disappeared about three weeks ago. Scarlet knows something has happened to her. She's sure of it. In her search for her, she crosses path with a man whom Scarlet believes is dangerous. The man's name is Wolf and he's a fighter. He offers his services to help her find her grandmother but soon she realizes he knows a lot more than what he's letting on.

“But you're the only one, Scarlet. You'll always be the only one.”

Back in the Commonwealth's prison, Cinder is visited by Dr. Dimitri Erland. He uses his lunar gift to grant entrance into her cell. Dr Enland reveals a huge secret about her past and before leaving produces a new hand and new foot for her to use. He also provides her with a way out. During her escape she enters another cell. The cell is occupied by Captain Carswell Thorne. A handsome man with a dubious past. Cinder agrees to take him with her in exchange Thorne will provide them with an exit out of New Beijing in the form of an American stolen plane he has hidden, the Rampion.

“A captain always knows where his ship is. It's like a psychic bond.”
“If only we had a captain here.”

Cinder and Scarlet have no idea their lives will soon become connected.

I was excited to continue this saga. Scarlet and Wolf have become my favorite couple so far. Scarlet was strong and she was determined to find her grandmother. Even when she knew her life was in danger, she didn't run scared. I love wolves and the whole idea of having characters behaving like one, made the story so much more interesting to me.

Wolf became so protective of Scarlet and I knew he was going to defend her. His brother Ram on the other hand was a complete bastard. Never heard of an Omega trying to steal the place of an alpha before.

“I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.”

One character I was happy to see returned was Iko. She's so much bigger than before, if you know what I mean. She has more responsibilities and she's adjusting to her new role. She's funny and cares for Cinder and now for Captain Thorne.

“Cinder," Iko said after a few silent minutes of explorations. "I'm enormous.

I can't wait for Cinder to become stronger and be able to fight Queen Levana. Levana is so evil and cruel. At this moment, I fear for Kai. The woman won't stop until she gets her clutches on him. Hurry up Cinder! Save your prince!

Moving onto Cress next.
