Beloved Enemy (Unholy Alliance) by Lacy Yager

Beloved Enemy

*Complementary ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. *

Genevieve is your average college student. Except for the fact that she is a seventeen-year-old science prodigy almost ready to graduate at MIT. Things get even more complicated when a vampire kidnaps her because she is needed to help the vampire with a project. Genevieve tries to escape numerous times, but on her last attempt she meets Chad.
When Genevieve first sees Chad she is instantly drawn to him. He has caramel-colored eyes, a beautiful face, and a body to match. He seems perfect, until she learns that Chad is a vampire. To make things more uncomfortable, Chad and Genevieve have to team up to try and find a way to kill monsters that are worse than any other super natural creature. Being attracted to a creature that craves her blood does not seem logical. The chemistry that exists between them is not a science that Genevieve is familiar with. However, as Genevieve spends more time with Chad, will she be able to ignore the fact that she is falling in love with him? Will Chad be able to open up and allow himself to fall in love?

"I've tried to stay away. And it's done exactly zip to erase my feelings. I don't know what to do. I've never felt this way about anyone. I didn't intend to let it happen with Genevieve, but here we are."

This book is the fourth book in the Unholy Alliances series. The book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the previous books before reading this book. I read this book as a standalone, and I was a little confused in the beginning of the book. There are a lot of characters, and it is hard to get into the story at first. Once I got the characters straight in my head I was able to get into the book. All of the characters were likable. Sometimes Genevieve had moments where she seemed too timid, but overall I really enjoyed her character. She was smart and kind, which I think is a great combination.

Genevieve and Chad falling in love with each other happened a little too quickly in my opinion. I was not instant love, but it still felt rushed and sometimes awkward. One moment they were strangers, and then they are suddenly declaring their love for each other. However, being the romance-obsessed girl I am, I was still rooting for them to get together. Their relationship was not the most developed or romantic, but it was still cute.

"I'm already in love with her. There I was, thinking about murdering the human boy, and the realization felt like I'd had both legs knocked out from under me. I went into a free fall. It was all I could do to gather her up and hold her last night, then tuck her into bed. I can't believe I've let this happen."

The plot of the book was interesting, and definitely kept my interest the entire time. Since it was such a short book, I felt like some questions were not completely answered. I am hoping they will be answered in the next book. Overall, I did enjoy this book. I would recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a quick and fun YA paranormal romance.
