The Spider (Elemental Assassin, #10) by Jennifer Estep

The Spider
ARC provided by Net Galley.

This one was a little different.
The story begins with Gin receiving  a box of  roses.  This reminds her only of one past event that marked her life a decade earlier.
We are transported back to a time where the Tin Man and Mab are still alive. Gin is just beginning to make her name as the Spider.  She is not as patient or as powerful as she is now.
The Spider gets a new contract. A construction company's owner is abusing his daughter and someone wants him dead. Gin is happy to oblige.
There is just a little problem, the son of her new mark is attracted to Gin and for the first time in a while Gin wants to return the affection.
How can this relationship work??

Gin is her twenties, she is attending school, learning the ropes as an assassin.  She is trying to show the Tin Man that she can do it on her own.  While reading her thoughts you see how immature she is. She can be "sloppy" and can trust too easily.  We also learned that Donovan was not the first man Gin has loved.  I felt bad for Gin, she was hurt emotionally and physically in this book.  Luckily, this is the past and in the present she has friends, family and Owen's love.
My one and only complaint towards The Spider is the lack of Owen. I love those violet eyes and I missed them too much.  Bring him back Jennifer.  He needs more page time.
