Haley Turner is running away. New town, new name. This time the bus takes her to Rapid City and she knows she needs to get a job. Waitressing comes easy for her, people don't ask too many questions and a bar, it's something she can handle. Next in her list is a roof over her head. When the bar owner suggests she rent a house from Shooter, the ex-Army Ranger, she's doubtful but desperate.
Chris "Shooter" Sullivan doesn't think he likes the new waitress. She seems to be to Slick for her own good although sometimes she runs away from him like a scared little mouse. Underestimating her comes out as a surprise more than once and the more he shares time with Haley the more he wants to get to know the real Slick.

I have no words to explain how much this book affected me.
The characters were truly multi dimensional. They jumped out of the page and there was nothing more that I wanted but to be able to meet Slick, Shooter and Co.
I laughed, I cried, I sigh. Until the last page I was enthralled by it.
I just can't believe I never heard about this author before but no worries, I'm rectifying this now.

This book was definitely one of my favorite books this year if not my number 1. It had everything I like in a book.  Love, Romance, Hot Bunch Guys/Bikers, A Pet, A Heroine with a back bone despite her trauma. I couldn't find anything wrong with it.
When I chose this book last night I wanted to read an MC book because I'm addicted to the genre. This is not per se one of them. It still has some hot ex-Rangers and there is an MC in the background. I wonder if they get their own series later.
To make the deal even better the book is currently FREE at amazon.
The secondary characters are PRICELESS and I can't wait to start Tex next.

Favorite Quotes:

"Holy hell, Slick. What is this?"
She frowned. "You don't like it? It's Sweet Tea."
He took another small sip. "It's like....liquid crack. It's all sugar," he declared. "How did you manage to make sugar with tea in it?"
"You boil water. Then add sugar. Then reheat and add more sugar. Then reheat and add more sugar."
"Yeah, I got that part, Slick. Jesus. If I finish this glass, I'll have diabetes.”

“Don’t look at my butt.”
“Don’t watch me mow the lawn.”

“Fuck that, I’ll just shoot ‘em. If I’m gonna do paperwork, might as well make it count.”

“Looked for a minute there like she was going to throw herself in between you two. Brave little thing.”
Hawk chuckled and started humming Stand by Your Man. Chris rolled his eyes. “It’s-”
“Just lunch!” the other three men finished for him. He glared at each of them in turn.

“You’re very dangerous,” he informed her, taking a bigger bite. “Very devious. If you had enough money and a small army, you could take over the whole country. And no one would care because you’re so damn cute.”

Later we can talk about how you made it through the Army hitting like a girl.”

Means I’m used to giving orders and having them followed. But not in the bedroom. I got my fill of ‘Yes, Sir/No, Sir’ in the service. And “Master,” he rolled his eyes, “is on a level I can’t even begin to deal with.”

“Stick a fork in him. He’s done.”

“Hey, when my lieutenant decides to rescue deaf ninja kittens, I’m gonna have questions. It’s just my way.”

“Slick’s mind is a dark, twisted labyrinth of female logic, Hawk,” Chris answered. “I have no fucking idea.”

Cliffhanger : No
