Sylas "Sy" Dean is a mystery even to his MC brothers. He is the loner, broody, with a hard exterior owner of Ink Me, the tattoo business part of the Knight Rebels MC. He doesn't let anyone in. He learned that life can be hard and it's better if you don't depend on anyone else but yourself. When he meets Holly for the first time, he knows she is a danger to him. She is a ray of sunshine to his darkness. She is full of life and he knows going there might be his downfall.
Holly likes what she sees when she looks at Sy. She wants nothing more than to break down those walls surrounding him. She's not looking to settle down, just have some fun with him. When her wish becomes true, her life becomes nothing but complicated. However, a terrible act against her lands her in the hospital loosing herself in the process. Only Sy could bring her back but Holly might never be ready for it.
I was very pleased with Affliction. I liked both characters from the moment they were introduced in Incandescent. Holly was vivacious and smart and Sy was the brooding alpha who doesn't want to fall but when he does, he falls hard. It hurt me when Holly lost her innate happiness and I was glad Sy was there for her, knew how to make her come back to life, to him.
Affliction had less action than Incandescent, it was a little darker but not less interesting. It's the story about how love and trusting the right person can heal you.
I seriously can't wait to read River's next book.
