A hot and consuming New Adult romance about a wayward musician and the one girl who keeps him grounded…
At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for star athletes. No one at school knows that she’d had her heart ripped to shreds by her high school sweetheart, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle, and then abandoned her. No one knows the real Rachel Mattson—except one person…
Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that fateful night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is back, groveling for her forgiveness.
Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Kai is willing to hide his feelings for her, just to have Rachel touch him again. After all, this is only a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But maybe it had been more all along.

I have such a crush on Kai!
This is the third book in the Between Breaths series, but the first one I've read. In no way do I feel like I was missing out by not having read the first two. However, I can't wait to get my hands on them if they are anything like this book.
Rachel has been living a double life in some ways. Away at college, she is the carefree girl that is just looking to have a good time. Back at home she can't be herself because of the pity she sees in everyone's eyes. She was in a tragic motorcycle accident three years ago, that resulted in a brain injury and months of rehab. Kai, her best friend Dakota's brother, was the one to take care of her and support her in the hospital. They grew up together and have always had a solid friendship. But they haven't spoken since she left for school.
"I'm doing what I do well," he said, tugging my nearer. "Taking care of my Turtle."Rachel is back from college for the summer and staying with Dakota and Kai. Kai is somewhat of a slacker. He's just moved back from Amsterdam and has no direction in life. He loves music but hasn't figured out how to translate that into a career. He's gorgeous, pierced and always has a steady stream of girls. But only one girl has captured his eye this summer. When Kai and Rachel can't fight their feeling for one another anymore....the results are HOT!
"Rachel was like a shock of red in a dreary sea of gray."The intensity between Kai and Rachel was what made this story so AMAZING. I just couldn't put it down. I had to know if they were going to end up together. The dual POV is great too! I highly recommend this book.

4/5 Fangs
Three years ago after a bad motorcycle accident left her with a tragic brain injury, Rachel left for college and rarely came home or communicated with her friends. It’s summer break and Rachel is home from college and reconnecting with her old close friends Dakota and Dakota’s brother, Kai.
While at college she’s a different girl: fun, carefree, and the “life of the party”. She also tends to turn to guys for a distraction from her own mind and to help forget about her past. Back at home she’s a completely different person; a person she somehow lost in all the chaos surrounding the accident.
Dakota, Kai, and Rachel have always been close friends. After her accident, Dakota and Kai were the only ones who didn’t treat her differently and helped take care of her in the hospital. Kai and Rachel had always had a special connection, and after a few days back together they slowly realize the connection was more than what either of them expected.

I really, really like this story. This is the third book in the series and it was so awesome seeing why Rachel has been closed off and refusing to speak about her past in the other books.
The connection between Kai and Rachel was magnetic. Kai was so amazing with her and so patient. He was her comfort now just like he was three years ago when she was in the hospital.
I also loved being able to see Ella and Avery again. I love the Between Breaths series and I can’t wait for the next installment!!!
