Duty Bound (The Protectors #1)
by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams

The premise of this book was great, but I found the story itself to be a little bit of a letdown.  It felt entirely surface to me,  there was no depth.  Maybe I built my expectations up too high after Salvation.

Levi is a former marine,  that lost his best friend, Gavin, in the line of duty.  He's returned to his small hometown for the funeral and to try and salvage some type of life.  It's been years since he has seen Gavin's little sister, Harper, and he can't believe what a beautiful woman she's become.  Harper is determined to investigate her brother's death and Levi wants to be there to protect her after she starts receiving death threats.  She can't stand Levi and refuses to let him try and control her.
I really struggled with the connection between Levi and Harper. They had a sort of love/hate relationship, but  it just didn't play out well to me.  I was also confused that Harper just dropped her investigation.  That was one of the main plot points in the story and after finding out something, we aren't told what it is, she just gives up.  At this point, I'm not sure if I would read the next book in the series.
