#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward returns with an all-new tale of paranormal passion in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to train the best of the best to join them in the deadly battle against the Lessening Society. Among the new recruits, Axe proves to be a cunning and vicious fighter—and also a loner isolated because of personal tragedy. When an aristocratic female needs a bodyguard, Axe takes the job, though he’s unprepared for the animal attraction that flares between him and the one he is sworn to protect.

For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart.

Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear.

As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.

"I will always be your warrior, Mary mine."
Blood Vow is the next book in the Black Dagger Legacy series. It follows the trainees which have been selected after an arduous process to join the BDB in the fight against the Omega and the Lessening society.

Axe is part of the elite team. He comes from a non-glymera family. He lost his father during the raids which occurred two years ago. Although, Axe feels like he lost his father when his mother walked out on both of them years before. Axe knows love can bring only trouble. For this reason, he would rather not commit to anyone.

Elise is Peyton's cousin. She's still mourning the passing of her cousin Allishon who was murdered just a few weeks ago. Elise has been hiding her nightly outings from her father. Going against his wishes, she has continued her studies and is attending a human university. She's determined to finish her career as a psychologist and she wants to help her race by giving counseling to PTSD patients. Elise doesn't think she wants to settle down with a mate. She wants to have the freedom to decide her future.

When Axe and Peyton's world collide, fate will take them on a different course.

I'm always happy to go back to the BDB or now the BDL series. I love that JR Ward's BDL series has the same concept as her earlier books in the BDB. They center on one couple and their love story. However, in Blood Vow, we get a bonus. We get a lot of Rhage/Mary and Bitty. Rhage and Mary adored Bitty and they want nothing else than to make sure she becomes their adopted daughter. Of course, things won't be easy for them and that's when we get to meet Ruhn. He made a great impression and I'm hoping he gets his own story.

There were a couple of setbacks for me. Axe's economical situation was never resolved. The poor guy lived without heat or food during winter. Also, we don't know much of what the Omega is planning. Granted, there were fighting scenes with the lessers but no clear plan from their boss.

In regards to the romance, Mary and Rhage are still a perfect unit. The love for each other is unquestionable. Same goes for Axe and Elise. They understood each other despite coming from two completely different upbringings.

My favorite character besides the main couple was hands down Lassiter. He always makes me laugh but everything he did in this book made me love him a little bit more. I hope his books comes out soon.

Cliffhanger: No
