He promised to take me as far as I could go—and I wanted to go to the edge. My whole life has been a cover, a con, a lie. I was born into the grift, raised on the thrill of playing someone I’m not. As a rule, I never let anyone get too close—until Cole August makes it impossible for me to stay away. Cole is tough, sexy, and intensely loyal, yet his secrets are dark and his scars run deep. Not many women can handle his past, or the truth behind his fierce demands. But something about him beckons me—and our desire is a game I must play. I know he’s dangerous, that even his touch is trouble, but what is passion without a little risk?

Excerpt:

He let go, then moved to face me. I missed his touch, but the trade-off was worth it. I’m not the kind of girl who swoons over hunky firemen calendars and I’ve only seen Magic Mike once. But as far as eye candy went, Cole was a walking, talking Milky Way bar, and at least as tempting. “Really,”he confirmed. An easy smile bloomed on his face, and he shook his head slowly, with obvious pleasure. “I didn’t realize that working as a barista required such honed salesmanship.” “I’m a woman of many talents,”I said, then fluttered my lashes. “Damn right you are.”He drew in a breath as he looked at me, and try as I might, I had no clue what he was thinking. “That was quite the commission you just brought in,”he finally said. “I have a feeling you’ll be getting Christmas cards from Tiki for the rest of your life.” “I look forward to it. What about you?”I asked boldly, and blamed it on the wine. I met his eyes, and fervently hoped that mine really were a window to the soul, because right then I wanted him to see straight inside me. “What will I get from you?” “That depends on what you want.” “Want,”I repeated. Where Cole was concerned, what didn’t I want? “I told you earlier that you owed me,” he said. “Do you want to call us even?” “Do you?” He was silent for a moment, and then one moment longer. “No,”he finally said. I lifted my chin. “Good.” His expression remained perfectly stoic, but he lifted his hand toward my face, then dropped it, as if he were a child who’d caught himself about to do something naughty. “It’s okay,”I said, my voice almost a whisper. “I won’t break.” “Don’t be so sure, blondie. I’ve been known to destroy even the most resilient things.” “I’m not a thing. And you won’t destroy me.”I hesitated only a second, then took one step closer. The difference was only inches, but the air seemed suddenly thicker, as if my lungs had to work harder to draw in oxygen. “It’s okay,”I said again. All around us, the party continued, but I’m not sure either one of us was aware. Instead, it felt as if we’d stepped into a vortex, and at least in our little corner of space and time nothing else mattered or even existed. I held my breath, wanting his touch so badly I could taste it. And when he finally brushed the side of his thumb over my cheekbone, it was all I could do not to moan aloud. All too quickly he took his hand away, leaving me bereft. All too quickly he stepped back, forcing the world around us to come back to life. “I just had to see if I was right,”he said. “About?” “Your skin. It’s like touching a promise.” “Is it?”I murmured. “Tender,”he said. “And a bit mysterious. With layer upon layer just waiting to be discovered.” My breath stuttered in my chest. “I didn’t know you thought that,”I said. “I didn’t know you thought about me at all.” He was silent for so long I began to fear he wasn’t going to answer. When he spoke, his words cut through me, sharp and sweet. “I think about you more than I should.” It was suddenly very warm in the gallery. Little beads of sweat gathered at the hairline on the back of my neck. I needed air, because it seemed as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. Somehow, miraculously, I formed words. “What are you thinking now?”

Unwritten by M.C. Decker

Title:  Unwritten  (The Unspoken Series Book #1)
Author:  M.C. Decker
Genre:   Contemporary Romance
Release Day:  September 10th 2014

Synopsis:
I thought it was too late. I thought our story had already been written.

College sophomore Brooke Anderson thought she had it all − a loving family, her sexy high school sweetheart, a supportive, quick-witted best friend and dreams of being the next hotshot reporter for the Washington Post

Fate had something else in mind when Brooke collided with the devastatingly handsome upperclassman, Rich Davis. Rich was cocky, conceited and arrogant.  He was everything that Brooke didn’t want, but Rich never gave her the option. He had already made the choice to be, at the very least, her friend. Would Brooke accept this egotistical man’s friendship? Would she choose to want more? Would it be too late if she did?

Fast forward nearly ten years. Brooke’s life hadn’t played out quite as she had envisioned it. She was suffering from the heartbreaking loss of her mother, her high school sweetheart was long gone, and her dreams of the Washington Post had turned into a career at a small town paper. Brooke decided it was time to follow her dreams. If she couldn’t be happy in love, at least she could be happy in life.

Brooke’s dreams brought her to the lobby of the Washington Post where fate intervened once again as she collided with none other than the devastatingly handsome Rich Davis. As her potential employer, Rich now seemed off-limits. Brooke wanted her successful career more than a chance at love. But, was it really her choice to make, or was it beyond her control?

Maybe my story is, in fact, Unwritten …

Excerpt
I remember riding down in the elevator at what seemed like a snail’s pace. “Seriously, could this thing move any slower? It must know we are on a deadline, or something,” I snickered, trying to break the tension that had quickly formed between us.
We finally made it to ground level and began our walk down to the basketball game. We were both quiet for awhile just enjoying each other’s company.
“Nice night, isn’t it?” Rich said, breaking the silence first.
“Mmmhmmm,” I whispered.
I swear he moved closer to me and brushed his arm against mine. I felt a chill rush up and down my spine. How did this guy do this to me? It was only a year ago that I wanted him to fall and drown in a sewer somewhere.
“Do you want to play a game?” he asked.
“A game?” I questioned. “Sure, what do you have in mind, Rich?”
“Truth, Dare, Double-Dare, Promise, or Repeat.”
“You’re kidding, right?” I said between giggles. “Are we at a fourth-grade, slumber party now? How do you even know about that game?” I asked curiously.
“My sister, Jennifer … she’s a few years older than I and her friends always wanted me to play with them at her sleepovers. I was like their little mascot, or something,” he said, smiling at the memory.
In that moment, my heart softened a bit more where Rich Davis was concerned.
“Sure, let’s play. I’ll start with a truth. Give it to me,” I dared.
“Do you love your boyfriend?”
Whoa, that is not what I was expecting. I was expecting something more like – Is your favorite color purple? These questions were a lot less serious when my girlfriends asked them nearly a decade ago. Why did he care if I loved Jay? Most importantly, why was I hesitating?
“Did you hear me, Brooke?” he asked in a louder voice.
“Yes, I heard you … and, yes, I love Jay.”
“OK, repeat,” he said, trying to hide the disappointment in his voice.
“Ooooh, OK, let me think. I need to make this a good one. … How about … Brooke Anderson is the most beautiful, brilliant and bodacious girl I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.”
His Hollywood smile appearing, Rich erupted in a hysterical fit of laughter. “Bodacious?”
“What? I was going for alliteration,” I shrugged. “Now repeat!”
“That’s the best B-word you could come up with. How about bad ass, or babbling … because we all know that you sure do babble a lot,” he teased.
“Whatever, just say it already, would you! Unless you’re giving up already,” I insisted.
“Fine,” he said with a sigh. “Brooke Anderson is the most beautiful, brilliant and bodacious girl I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing,” he repeated, stifling his laughter.
“Damn straight! Now hit me with a dare.”
“Kiss me,” he challenged.
“Wh—What?”
“You heard me. Kiss me,” he repeated.
I couldn’t let Rich win. We were only in the second round. What kind of loser goes out in the second round of Truth, Dare, Double-Dare, Promise, or Repeat? I needed to think and think quickly – got it!
I leaned over and gave Rich a quick, chaste peck on the cheek. After all, he didn’t specify where he wanted that kiss.
“Nice one, you got me there. Now hit me with a dare,” he shot back.
“Hmmm, OK. You know my feet are killing me. I think you should carry me the rest of the way to the rec center.”
Before I knew it, Rich scooped me up in his arms and began carrying me down the steep hill that led to the college’s gymnasium.
“That’s all you got, Beautiful? You’re making this way too easy on me.”
“Whatever, I choose truth again,” I said, without missing a beat.
“What’s your idea of a perfect date?” he asked.
“That’s an easy one! An afternoon at the beach; maybe a picnic, or some stargazing. Ohhh, fireworks over the water. … Yes, now that would be perfection.” I always envisioned Jay proposing to me in that exact setting, but in that moment, it was Rich I envisioned lying next to me in the sand.
“That does sound perfect … I’ll go with a promise,” Rich said this time.
“Yes!” I exclaimed. “I was waiting for you to choose promise. When you become the editor of a big-time newspaper – because we both know you will someday – you need to hire me. Got it, Mister!” I said, poking at his chest.
Chuckling, he answered, “Yes, Brooke, I promise that when I’m the editor of some big-time newspaper you will be my second-in-command.”
“Wow, I just asked for a job and now I’m second-in-command – score,” I joked.
“I don’t have the job yet, sweetheart.”
“I know, I know. OK, give me another dare,” I requested.
“Brooke, I, uh, dare you to grab dinner with me tomorrow night?”
Crap, crap, crap, I can’t do this. I LOVE Jason. Jay-Jay is your forever, Brooke. Well, at least I made it to the fourth round.  “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Rich. I’m sorry if I have been giving you the wrong idea, but you know I am spoken for … not to mention, I’m kind of your boss,” I tried to tell him as convincingly as possible. The question remained as to whom I was trying to convince.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I just thought … never mind,” Rich said, with a hint of regret in his voice.

Review
Brooke Anderson is dating the perfect boyfriend, too bad he isn't at the same college. She soon meets Rich Davis. A man full of purpose, dedication and no play. He also can be an arrogant bastard when he wants to be. It doesn't matter that he's gorgeous to look at.
Sharing a project with him was the last thing Brooke wanted but she discovers that there is much more to him than meets the eye. The more time she's around Rich, the more she likes him. Unfortunately, it is not their time to be together.
Ten years later when she meets him again he holds all the cards and he wants to win this game they started years ago.

I love second chance romances. They make me feel good. The best part of this book was Rich. When he meets her again, he's determined to make her believe in them. He does everything to convince her. He has been waiting for her for almost a decade and he won't give up this time.
Brooke, I had some problems relating too.

Bad Son Rising by Julie A. Richman

Bad Son Rising

add-to-goodreads-button31

We met Zac Moore on Julie's Moore Series. Zac is Schooner's son. He grew up around wealth and he was also blessed with great looks. He's used to women throwing themselves at him and using him. The only woman who has made him want to be different is Liliana Castillo. He's intrigued by her from the moment he meets her.
Liliana wants to be part of a bigger cause that continuing her studies at Yale. She moves to Africa to help with a project. When Zac appears in Africa too she doesn't know what to think about him. Women seem to flock to him but he seem to be more than just a handsome guy.
Unfortunate circumstances separate them and the road to find each other is not an easy one.

I'm so glad Julie wrote this book. I hated Zac in the first two books. He was selfish, arrogant and he hurt Mia. I warmed up to him by the end of the series, but in this book I fell for him and I was rooting for him to win the girl he wanted.

"Give me a chance. I'll show you"

Zac demonstrated that he was more than just a pretty boy. He was smart, a loyal friend, a great brother and that he could love Liliana unconditionally.
Lily was shy, intelligent and in a way fearless. Her dedication to help people in need was admirable. I love how she was able to make Zac understand that he was worth loving.
As secondary characters go, Mia was great, his best friend Liz was a hoot and so was Brian (whom I hope gets a book too).

"I don’t know the future, but if I were a betting man, which I am, I’d bet I’m still going to love you two years from now. "

as·sump·tion:
a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof

They say when you assume that you make an ass out of you and me. Kenton Mayson learned this lesson firsthand when he made assumptions about Autumn Freeman and the kind of woman she is based on what little information he had. What he finds out is she’s not only beautiful, but also smart, funny, a fighter, and exactly the kind of woman he wants to share his life with. Autumn made assumptions of her own about Kenton, and now he needs to prove her wrong in order to protect her and their future.

Review

Autumn Freeman is doing with her life the best she can. She works as a stripper to pay for nursing school. When a shooting at the strip club has her in trouble, she is told to leave the city and her friend sends her to be protected by Kenton Mayson.

Kenton is in the business of protection. He is not a cop but he'll kill to protect what he cares about most. Sharing his house with a stripper is not his idea of fun. He is mad when he finds out the truth and sees her working at the hospital. Once his preconceived notions are all gone, with eyes wide open he realizes she is what he has been looking for. There are just two little issues: convincing Autumn of a second chance and keeping her alive.

My thoughts:

This was a great read. Kenton was an alpha who once he realized he wanted the girl, he didn't stop until he convinced her. He didn't hesitate to put his ex girlfriend in her place and he was open with his family about his feelings for Autumn. There was no second guessing him. He was also tender and sweet at times.

“I love you. It’s not past tense. I love you now, and will love you until my heart stops beating.”

Autumn was independent and funny. She has a good heart, was smart and listened to what Kenton had to say to keep her alive.
The secondary characters were also good. There were a couple of them that I will like to read their stories too.

“You’re also the first guy since my first that I have been interested in. I feel vulnerable when I’m with you, and I hate your words have the power to crush me, but they do,”

A complimentary copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Prologue

I see you judging me. I know what you’re thinking. She has to be a slut; she works at a strip club and takes off her clothes for money. Yes! I work at a strip club, and you may think I’m a whore for showing off my body, but this is a talent that has been forced down my throat since I was a young child. Look pretty and smile. I put on a show for those who choose to watch. However long I’m on stage, I’m not even me. It’s what I imagine an out of body experience would be like—a performance, nothing more, nothing less. The people watching make assumptions about who they think I am, or cook up a story in their heads of whom they want me to be. I’m just another beautiful face.
Beautiful. I hate that fucking word. Who gives a crap if someone is attractive on the outside if they are dying inside? My whole life has been about what I look like. I swear, the only reason my mother kept me was to have a real-life, living, breathing doll she could dress up and control, which is the exact reason why as soon as I became eighteen, I got as far away from her special brand of crazy as I could. That’s also why I don’t date. The first thing guys do is look at me and see a pretty face, a nice body, and an empty space where my brain’s supposed to be. They have no interest in getting to know the person I am on the inside. They don’t care I volunteer my spare time, and they couldn’t care less I’m going to school to be an RN. They don’t ask about my hopes, my dreams, or about where I see my life in twenty years. They don’t care about me at all.

They just want someone pretty to follow them around and tell them how handsome they are, how special they are, while agreeing with everything they say. Fuck that! I did that for too many years. That’s why I live inside books. At least there I can choose where I want to be—from the highlands of Scotland, to a king’s bed in a faraway land—and even if it’s pretend, sometimes that’s a lot better than reality.

Seduce Me (Ravage MC #2) by Ryan Michele

~ Synopsis ~

Casey Alexander grew up part of the Ravage Motorcycle family since the day she was abandoned by her mother and thrown into her father’s lap. Always seeing herself as an outsider, she spent her whole life trying to fit in, but never really succeeding. When she loses her beloved father, the utter aloneness engulfs her, leaving her searching for solace in the one man she’s always craved. Confessing her love for him only results in devastation when he pushes her away. Convinced she needs a fresh start, she leaves everything behind in order to mend her broken heart and begin building a future without him.

Gage Thomas (G.T.) Gavelson fell in love with his Angel when he was just a pint sized kid. Both beautiful and smart, he always felt she deserved so much better than him. Growing up beside her in the club only continued to test his will power, until one night, he gave into temptation. Realizing he couldn’t allow himself to hold her back from the life she deserved, he pushed her away, allowing her to believe she would never be enough for him. Letting her go had been the hardest thing he’d ever done. Even though he’d thought it’d been the right thing to do, not a day goes by that misery doesn’t consume him for it.

When a tragic shootout occurs, everything changes as once again their lives are intermingled. When you find your way back to the one person you are meant to be with, forgiveness should be easy. But sometimes, we hurt each other too much to ever be able to forgive.

Is their love strong enough to heal their pain?

~ Review ~
Casey Alexander has grown up in the Club's life. Her father was Bam, her best friend is Harlow "Princess"(heroine from Ravage Me) and Harlow's brother is Gage Thomas (G.T.) Gavelson who's the VP's son.
As long as she can remember GT has been in her life and she has loved him from a distance until one night everything changes and they're finally together. After a few weeks when she thinks GT will be hers, he hurts her in the worst way.  Casey runs away and makes new friends but she also learns that her heartache is not done.
When the MC is on lock down she is forced back home despite her not feeling like she's part of the family.  She is also forced to deal with her feelings towards GT.
GT made the mistake of pushing Casey away but he soon realizes he can't be without her.

I really liked this one. There was no insta-love. The story centers on GT and Casey, but we see how Harlow and Cruz are doing. We also get a new character in Bella. I wonder if she will get her own book.
Casey was a believable character. She did what she thought she should do to protect herself. She was devastated more than once but she picked up the pieces and moved on.
GT was a moron for letting her go, but he won me over and I was happy with him fighting for her this time.

“You know what she fucking wants. Loyalty. Honesty. Trust. She wants a man who only sees her and not the other millions of women in the world. She wants a man who treats her with respect and one she trusts to go out and not sleep with the entire female population.”

Rival (Fall Away #2) by Penelope Douglas

Fallon Pierce has been away for a couple of years. She was sent to boarding school to keep her away from home. Fallon has been plotting her revenge for a while and this time the people who hurt her will suffer too.
Madoc has spent the last two years trying to forget Fallon with whatever girl was available. When Fallon is back in town, he can't stay away from her. He needs to understand why she left him in the first place.
They have hated each other since the last time they were together but when they are face to face, old feelings resurfaced.

I do like this series. Penelope has a way to making you like guys you'll usually hate.
Fallon was determined to seek revenge but when she had a chance to hurt Madoc or be loved by him, she choses love.
Madoc's POV helped a lot. If I only had Fallon's opinion I don't think I'll like her to end up with him. He made plenty of mistakes, some of them made me furious with him, but I do believe he loves her.
I was happy to read that Tate and Jared's love is still very much alive and I'm really looking forward to Jaxon's book.
