A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison (The Hollows, #10)

Itchy Witch is back....

Book 10 starts after a few months of Rachel almost loosing her soul. She is wearing the bracelet Trent gave her to avoid Al and all demonic too. Unfortunately, this leaves her unprepared to defend herself. Her parents have hired Wayde as her bodyguard. Rachel doesn't think much of the Were at the beginning, but he is able to make her see somethings she is trying to avoid dealing with. Marshal makes a cameo in this book, I'm glad he is not a hater, but I'm also glad he is gone.

Trent is big in this book, they finally are able to communicate, to fight together, to accept each others magic. No jumping to the wrong conclusions on this one. I like that he has his cellphone connected to Rachel's bypassing all securities. The Ring is also something to think about. But I digress...

This book is about HAPA, humans who are trying to use demon magic against everything non human. They want extermination without thinking about the consequences. As always, Rachel believes this is her fault in some way and has to defend her race and all others.

My one complaint about this book, is the lack of Al. I missed him in this book. What a great character he is. I want him happy at the end of this series. I missed his British accent. He always make the pages fly by.

I know some of my friends are a little disappointed in this book but I can see the grounds forming for an epic finale. This was the calm before the storm (Although, Rachel still finds a way to get beat up).

Spoiler Fanglert:

There is no kissing in this book. I feel like Miss Harrison, is getting ready for a big ending.

All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins

Callie Grey is a funny, spontaneous girl who is madly in love with her boss, Mark. He was the first kiss when they were teenagers. After a short fling with Mark, she is even more in love. To her surprise when she turns thirty, he gives her a gift but also tells her, he is dating the next company heiress. She is devastated, decides to flee the office and get her new license. At the DMV she cries in line and makes phone calls to her sister and friend. The guy behind her is upset at her "verbal diarrhea". Although, he can't be that bad if he has a handkerchief to lend.

She decides maybe it's time for a new love, goes on a couple of internet dates and makes her dog visit the new hunk of a vet. To her surprise, the new Vet is the guy in line at the DMV, Dr. Ian McFarland. He is not warm like Dr. Kumar, the old Vet. He may need help with a new campaign to help him gain more clients. Little by little they get to know each other and a more than a friendship begins. But Mark may want her back.

I loved this book. After finishing reading it I just wished the characters were real. It also made me cry but not as much as her prior books. The dogs are always a plus. Love her relationship with her Grandfather.

Another winner book by Mrs. Higgins.

Evan fled the country after trying to get the attention of this particular Lady. At first, he started the teasing to get her attention. A classic tale of a young boy behaving meanly towards the girl he likes. But, he didn't count on everyone else joining in.

He decided to leave and spend time in other European countries. Because of a recent death, he comes back and tries to fix the situation he started years back.

Can Elaine believe his remorse?

I liked it. It was short and sweet. I will read more books by this author.

Something Witchy This Way Comes
by Veronica Blade

Tessa McClean is in high school. Soon she will turn eighteen. One morning she is summoned to the new principal's office to be told that her life is in danger. Someone is after her. She is told that they want Hayden Anders, another kid in her school to be her bodyguard. At first, Tessa is against it. Hayden is a trouble maker, yes he is handsome but he has broken more hearts at her school than she can count. Hayden is not crazy about this either, but when he is offered a letter of recommendation for college and also for his school record to be expunged, he can't turn down the offer. Tessa is a very smart student, she offers to help Hayden with his grades as a thanks for having her back. At home her parents are not supportive, they live separate lives, and most nights they don't stay at the house.

Soon Tessa learns that she is a witch and that two covens are trying to get her to pledge her allegiance to them. She has until she turns eighteen to choose a side. Then, she will become one faction's enemy.

The book had two point of views at times, which helps you understand the decisions both of the main characters choose, without making the narrative distracting.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't question some of the actions. One of them was the Principal asking for a teenager to help as a bodyguard to prevent harm coming to a student. That would not happen in real life. But, if you can overlook this, Something Witchy has romance, action, and it is a fast read.
