Echoes of Scotland Street by Samantha Young
On Dublin Street #5

Echoes of Scotland Street
This is Cole's story.

Shannon MacLeod sure knows how to pick them. Her boyfriends have all been trash. She had a cheater, a stealer, an abusive douchebag. She has sworn never to fall for a bad boy again. Moving away from her latest ordeal has her finding a job in the famous tattoo studio INKarnate. She never thought she was going to have a problem until she meets Cole. Cole has bad boy written all over him.

Cole Walker is looking for the right girl to settle down with. Everyone who's important to him, who feels like family is happy and settled down. He wants that too. It doesn't matter that on the exterior he is confident, attractive and smart, he doesn't want to get hurt like his mother hurt him ....Ever.

He knows he can find the One and that it's possible since he's surrounded with great women examples.

When he meets Shannon he thinks he finally found her but convincing Shannon that she can trust him may be impossible, but he's willing to try.

I love Cole from prior books and I was looking forward to reading his book. I can honestly say that I love him more. He was such a nice guy, a great friend and so patient with Shannon, just what she needed.

"There's more to you than cute. People call you cute because you're petite.but you're sexy too..Mostly you're beautiful in a way that stops a man in his tracks."

Shannon had made bad decisions and I know it was hard to open up to Cole so I wasn't upset it took her a while. I thought it was just the right amount of time. She was insecure and was terrified about making a new mistake. Her family didn't help except for Logan who I'm hoping is the next guy in this series.

My heart felt happy reading how the rest of the gang was doing, how life has progressed for them and how happy they still are. They were dearly protective of Cole but they were there to help Shannon too.

" Jesus, women." Cole suddenly appeared, pushing past his sister and Hannah to get to me. "The four of you look like a pack of hyenas crowding baby Simba"

Shannon also had great support from Rae and Simon demonstrating that sometimes friends can be a better family than blood.

Gage was the first guy I ever wanted. He was my first crush and my first fantasy, but he wasn't my first in any other way because he never saw me as anything more than a friend— at least not until the night that changed everything.

It was all Gage's fault. He insisted we drive through the storm and take the back roads. By the time the storm hit full force we had no chance. One night of snowbound sex changed our relationship forever. The problem was at the same time I caught another guy’s attention. This other guy happened to be the alpha of a pack of shifter wolves. I thought the wolves were the worst of my problems, but I was wrong. When things went from bad to worse I had to make a lifelong sacrifice to save Gage, but what price is too much to save the one you love?

Review

"Dire" was a new and refreshing paranormal romance. I really fell in love with some of the characters, and I am anxiously awaiting the second book, "Dusk". One thing I really enjoyed about this book was the fact it was written in dual POVs. I loved being able to see inside Gage's head as well as Mary Anne's.

Mary Anne was the main character, and I really enjoyed reading the book from her point of view. She was a smart and caring girl that was easy to relate to. Mary Anne also had some funny lines, which I was extremely grateful for. It added humor to scenes that had so much sexual tension that I thought I was going to suffocate. Speaking of sexual tension, I need to talk about my favorite character, Gage.

Now, upon reading the description for the book, I figured I was going to be cheering for Hunter, the alpha werewolf, in this love triangle. However, I was surprised when I found myself liking Gage a lot more than Hunter. Gage had everything a girl could want wrapped up in one beautiful package. Gage was witty and the sexual tension between him and Mary Anne made my Kindle sizzle. Some of the scenes were super steamy, and I enjoyed every minute of them. Not to mention Gage was appropriately protective of Mary Anne, which made me extremely happy.

"I couldn't take on both guys, they were right. We'd freeze to death outside. It would all be okay if we remained together.

     "She stays with me."

"Let's get moving then. She needs to get out of the cold." The second man reached for her arm, but I pulled her further into my side.

Both men laughed. "A little protective are you?"

   "No one touches her." "

Gage also said some cute things to Mary Anne that made my heart squeeze with happiness. Basically, Gage made me squeal like a schoolgirl because I loved him so much.

"He didn't release me for a moment, he just studied my face. Finally I had to break the silence that set it in.

     "See anything you like?"

"Yes." He kissed my forehead in a surprisingly affectionate gesture and took my hand.

"But I figured I can't just look at you all day."

I bit back a smile and looked around."

When it comes to Hunter, I am really confused on my feelings for him. I honestly wanted to like him, but I couldn't. I understand that he was an alpha werewolf, so he does things a bit differently than a normal male would, but he kind of creeped me out. Sometimes I really liked the scenes with Hunter in them, but then other times I thought he was a psychopath. I was just really indecisive upon whether or not I liked Hunter and if I wanted him to end up with Mary Anne. I am intrigued to see how his character develops in the next books, and if I will still be team Gage after reading the next books.

"He stepped towards me, backing me up to the bed until my only choice was to sit down.

"I'm attracted to you, Mary Anne. My body aches to join with yours, but that doesn't mean I'll listen to that desire. I can control myself, and I'd never force myself on a woman. I have patience.""

This book ending on a crazy cliffhanger so be warned. I am dying to get the next book because I need to find out what happens next! I could not believe the book was over after that ending. It was not an ending that made me upset, it just made me want to cry because I want to know what is going to happen! I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a New Adult Paranormal Romance. I can tell there is a love triangle forming, but I do find myself enjoying this love triangle. It might just because I am heavily team Gage right now, and he was absolutely perfect in this book. In my opinion, in this book Hunter really wasn't that much of competition for Gage, but I can tell that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming books. I am excited to continue to watch these relationships grow and see what happens to the characters.

Excerpt

A single howl made me stop short. “The wolves!”

“Let’s hope they are farther away than they sound.” Gage tightened his hold on my hand and pulled me forward.

Three more howls filled the night. “They sound closer.”

We picked up the pace, and I chanced a glance behind me. That was a mistake. Several large grey wolves came into view. “Run!”

Gage didn’t need to be told twice. He broke into a run without letting go of my hand.

I ran as fast as possible over the frozen snow, but we didn’t get far before the wolves started circling around us. “Oh my god.” Could things get any worse?

“You have to make a run for it.” Gage’s voice quivered. “They’re going to kill us.”

“I’m not leaving you.” I tried to stay strong, and I kept my eyes locked on the wolves. There were five of them. All of them were massive, much larger than any wolf I’d seen before, but one of them was even bigger and had a large silver streak running down its back. That wolf seemed to be staring right at me.

“I’ll distract them. You run. I’ll catch up.”

I spotted an opening next to one of the smaller of the wolves and went for it. I didn’t make it far before one of the wolves stepped in front of me. I froze, paralyzed with fear, before my legs were knocked from under me. Suddenly, I was lying in the snow with a giant wolf hovering over me.

“We’re fucked.” Gage voiced exactly what I was thinking.

The silver streaked wolf stared down at me. It’s almost glowing eyes bored into mine. Was I really going to die as half-frozen food for a giant wild animal?

Then things got hazy and the air seemed to buzz. Moments later it wasn’t a wolf on top of me—it was a man. A completely naked man with a faint scar across his face.

“What the heck?” I tried to scurry back, but Hunter didn’t move. His very exposed parts nearly touched me. I didn’t want to notice his size, but I did. He was huge. He also didn’t look remotely concerned with the cold.

His lips brushed against my ear. “Were you going somewhere?”

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

Black Lies by Alessandra Torre

Synopsis
Brant:
Became a tech billionaire by his twentieth birthday. Has been in a relationship with me for 3 years.
Has proposed 4 times. Been rejected 4 times.

Lee:
Cuts grass when he’s not banging housewives. Good with his hands, his mouth, and his cock. Has been pursued relentlessly by me for almost 2 years, whether he knows it or not.

Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails.

If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.

Shocking, edgy and totally intoxicating.
I wouldn't expect anything less from Alessandra Torre. Her books are anything but ordinary. This story grabbed me right from the beginning and wouldn't let go.

Layana has lived a privileged life. She's educated, but has never worked a day in her life. The only thing expected of her is to find a husband and live the life of a trophy wife. But Lana wants more. She wants to live on the edge and be a little reckless. So it's even surprising to her when she meets Brant and falls so hard. He might be a wealthy, work obsessed man, but he's so much more. He makes her feel things she never thought was possible. The only problem, she's also in love with Lee. It was extremely confusing and frustrating to me that she could be in love with two totally different men. Especially since Brant is so amazing. But when I found out why, it made me gasp. Totally unexpected. READ THIS BOOK!

Because She Loves Me by Mark Edwards

Synopsis
A gripping tale of jealousy and obsession, from the #1 bestselling author of The Magpies.

When Andrew Sumner meets beautiful, edgy Charlie, he is certain his run of bad luck has finally come to an end.
But as the two of them embark on an intense affair, Andrew wonders if his grasp on reality is slipping. Items go missing in his apartment. Somebody appears to be following him. And as misfortune and tragedy strike his friends and loved ones, Andrew is forced to confront the frightening truth...

Is Charlie really the girl of his dreams – or the woman of his nightmares?

MrsNorthman's Review
A sexy, thriller that I couldn't put down. I was sure I had it all figured out. But, I was so wrong.

Andrew is easy to adore. He comes off as a sweet guy that leads a pretty lonely existence. Working freelance keeps him pretty isolated, he doesn't have many friends and he lost his parents years ago. So it's just him and his disabled sister, Tilly. More than anything, Andrew wants someone to share his life with. When he meets Charlie, he's sure that this gorgeous girl is way out of his league, but he has to try. To his surprise, she feels the same way about him. Their chemistry is hot!
"It was like being in a fugue state, my whole body alive and humming, wanting to consume Charlie, to devour her, my mouth all over her, and hers all over me."
Charlie has a few oddities. She gets jealous very easily and won't talk about her past. When strange things start happening, he doesn't want to believe it's Charlie. I didn't either for Andrew's sake, but it seemed pretty obvious. Could Charlie be the one wreaking havoc on his life and those closest to him? Or is he just paranoid?

Guess you will have to read to find out. This was a story that kept me guessing until the very end. There were times that I wanted to shake Andrew and tell him to wake-up. He was so blind when it came to Charlie. Overall, it was a very entertaining story, I just wish the ending had unfolded a little differently.

Mortal Ties (World of the Lupi #9) by Eileen Wilks

Mortal Ties

A new adventure for Lily Yu and Rule Turner begins in Mortal Ties. They are going to San Francisco when a prototype with great potential is stolen from Cullen's workshop at Clanhome. Rule and Lily discovered that the thief's name is Jasper Machek and he has ties to Rule. Beth, Lily's sister finds herself involved with someone who brings danger close to her, and the worst news is that Robert Friar is alive and kicking and the elves seems to be helping him.  Cullen, Beth and Lily seem to be a target. When more than one person close to them is kidnapped, it's a race to find them while keeping each other alive.

It's being a while since I read this series. Yet, it was comfortable getting back to these characters. In a way they are the same except more mature. Taking less risks. Lili has even accepted the need to have bodyguards. Cullen is seriously committed to one woman. Cynna makes the right choices in deference to her new position.
I embraced the new characters: Jasper, Tony Romano, Murray and Alycithin. I like Tony and I liked Murray and his cute puppy eyes and I hope we get to see them find love too.
One character I missed dearly was Benedict and I hope to see him back in the next book.

"She was funny and tender and tough and, yes, sometimes a pain in the ass. She was the light of his life, and he knew all too well what it was to fear for the one you loved. "

My Control (Inside Out #4.1) by Lisa Renee Jones

This is a novella in the Inside Out Series.

Mark is spiraling down. His life is a mess, he has lost the Control that he prides himself on having. Rebecca's disappearance has hit him hard.  He's worried about his mother's health. He might need to sell his Club. But, the worse part is that he's not sure how to handle Crystal. She has become something he desires but he knows he must push her away from his life before dragging her down with him.

The more I read about Mark, the more I liked him. He was not my favorite character at the beginning of the series. Chris was. Now, I'm eager to know what's happening to him and Crystal. I want them together. Mark needs someone who'll support him in this dark time in his life and I believe Crystal is independent, smart and strong enough to become what he needs.

"I don't know where that leaves me when control, my control, is what I've counted on keeping me and everyone around me safe."

Crystal is still a mystery, there are things she's hiding and I wonder how long it will take for Mark to know them.
I also know that Ryan is not going to make Mark's life any easier and neither is Ricco and they may use or hurt Crystal as a way to get to him.
On top of all this we still have Rebecca, her disappearance and possible murder,  but why do I have hope she's still alive? No one could be a better threat for Mark and Crystal than Rebecca is.
As a side note, I do love Blake Walker and Tiger intrigues me.

"Get on the damn plane and get out of town so I know you're safe."
