What a fabulous small town story!

I want to say first that I used to never read mass-market paperbacks.  They are always so hard to hold and I hate bending the spines (which is sometimes unavoidable).  With that being said I want to admit that I have missed out on TONS of amazing stories because of my [previous] dislike for mass-market books. Through blogging I’m offered books that are in the mass-market format and I’ve recently started reading more and more. I will be the fist to admit that some of my favorite stories are between the tiny mass-market covers.

So if you’re like me and dislike holding these tiny books in your hands try to get over it.  You won’t be disappointed.  DEFENDING HEARTS is one of the cutest, small town romance stories I’ve EVER read.

Gretchen Walker takes care of her late grandfather’s farm.  She lives at home with her grandmother and dog Cocoa. Gretchen lives a simple life. She’s hardworking and doesn’t have too much time to play. When she gets in a tight monetary bind she temporarily rents out one of her rooms to Alex Murphy.

Alex Murphy is a photojournalist that travels all around the world for the perfect shot. When he needs to reevaluate his life he heads home to small town Stuart Mills to document the towns high school football team and take a breather.  What he isn’t expecting to do is fall for Gretchen.  Once her walls begin coming down he can’t help but to be completely attracted to her.  How will a relationship work between his job traveling for months at a time and her dedication to the farm?

I loved this book.  I’m a total sucker for small town romances and DEFENDING HEARTS is a perfect example of why I love them so much.

There is such a strong sense of family and loyalty in small town stories and this one was no different.  Grams was a fantastic secondary character and she lightened the mood.  And of course we can’t have a fantastic small town story without an adorable pet. And Cocoa made me want to run out and get a new dog to teach it how to high five!

Another thing I love about small town romances is when one of the characters aren’t living the small town life.  Alex is not used to staying in one place long so it’s interesting watching him navigate living on a farm.

If you’re looking for an extremely sweet and entertaining story pick up DEFENDING HEARTS. I absolutely loved it!
