The Falconer (The Falconer #1) by Elizabeth May

Review

THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME. I am usually not a fan of books with fae, but this book made me fall in love with the fae genre. This book's historical aspect was so intriguing, and wonderfully written. I have an obsession with Scotland, and this book fed into my obsession. I really felt like I was in historic Scotland while reading this book!  I also really enjoyed the steampunk aspect of this book. I have not read a lot of steampunk novels, but this book made me definitely want to start reading more of them. I liked how the steampunk aspect of this book never overpowered the plot of the book; it just added a really intriguing aspect.

The action in the book was fantastic! I felt like I was actually there in each battle, and I loved every moment of those scenes. What was also fantastic was the main character, Aileana. She was kind, smart, funny, cunning, and a bad ass. I never was annoyed with her. I wanted to be her, because she was just that awesome. She reminded me of an 18 year old, fae slaying Merida from the Disney Pixar movie,  Brave.

I am a girl who loves romance, and this book did not disappoint in that aspect. I thought there was going to be a love triangle, but those thoughts were quickly erased. I do not know why people claimed there was a love triangle in this book, because there really wasn't a love triangle. It seemed like it might have gone that way at first, but Aileana made it clear she was only interested in the one character as a friend. He also seemed to feel that way, so there wasn't a love triangle. Maybe in the future one could develop, but as of this book, I did not think there was a love triangle.

The romance in this book was great because it wasn't overpowering. It was a side story that never took away from the plot. I thought the romance only added to the story. I loved the development of the romance in this book. All I will say is that Kiaran definitely had me swooning, and I loved his relationship with Aileana. I am obsessed with him, and I can't wait to see more of his character in the next book.

Overall, I completely adored this book. I flew through it, and the ending made me gasp out loud. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK....NOW! I NEED MORE OF KIARAN AND ALIEANA.
