The Darkest Minds ( The Darkest Minds Series Book 1) by Alexandra Bracken

Review

"When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones."

I am SO glad that I decided to pick up this book, because it was amazing! I started reading it the other night and ended up staying up until 1:00 in the morning, because I just had to know what was going to happen. The plot was so interesting and addicting. There was constant action and I felt like I was always on the edge of my seat.  The writing was spectacular. I could perfectly picture everything that was being described, and the dialogue was perfect. The humor in this book really helped to lighten the mood.

Ruby was the main character, and I really enjoyed reading from her point-of-view. She had tremendous character development in this book, and I am excited to see her grown more in the other books. She did some things that I didn't want her to do, but I understood why she did them. I really enjoyed Ruby, and I am glad that she was the main character.

Chubs and Zu were great side characters. They both had their own unique personalities, and I grew attached to both of them. I am crossing my fingers for more of them in the next book. My favorite character of the book was Liam. What I loved about Liam was that he wasn't the typical bad boy that almost all books have. Liam was kind, honest, respectful, and protective of his friends. He was truly a hero in this book, and I am so glad that him and Ruby started to develop a romantic relationship. They were adorable together! Liam is definitely one of my new book boyfriends, because he was perfect.

The ending killed me. I am still in mourning. I sort of predicted the ending, but it definitely did not make it any easier to accept when it actually happened. I understand why the book ended like it did, but I really hope to have answers in the next book.

Even though this book left me in tears, I still adored this book. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, because it was just that good. I want everyone to read it so we can all discuss it and fangirl over how awesome this book is! I am excited to go and read the next book, Never Fade. I cannot wait to read it so I can be reunited with my favorite characters.

 5 / 5 Fangs
