~ Excerpt ~
He bit back a curse and strode to his truck. Unlocking the door, he tossed his bags in the backseat, climbed in, and slammed the door. He turned the key and backed out resolutely, trying to ignore the fact that she had risen, her hands on her bags, and that her hood had slipped from her head. She didn’t move forward, didn’t call out to him to wait. She just stood there, watching him go. He shifted into drive and made it 100 feet before he let his eyes find her figure in the rear view mirror. “Unbelievable,” Finn ground out, and slammed the wheel with the palm of his hand. He slowed to a stop. “UNBELIEVABLE!” he reprimanded himself even as he engaged the brake, pushed the door open and lurched out of the idling vehicle. Bonnie still stood with her two duffle bags in her hands, her grandma’s stolen purse on her shoulder, but now her lips were slightly parted, clearly stunned that he’d stopped. And she wasn’t the only one. Finn felt like he was split right down the middle. The rational part of his brain, the side that ensured his survival and his sanity, was outraged, demanding that he keep driving, while the side of his brain that was connected to his heart and other parts of his body was breathing a sigh of relief that he hadn’t let her get away. She didn’t move, as if she was sure that the moment she did he would change his mind, climb back in the Blazer, and drive away. So he walked back to her, battling with himself every step of the way. He walked until they were practically toe to toe, her dark eyes wide and lifted to his, his hands shoved into his pockets so he wouldn’t strangle her. But his pockets felt like manacles around his wrists and he yanked them free, fisting them in the front of Bonnie’s puffy pink coat and raising her up on her toes and into him until they weren’t toe to toe any longer but nose to nose. His emotions were a big tangled ball of anger, longing, and injustice all wrapped up in impatient outrage, and Finn couldn’t separate one feeling from another. So he did the only thing he could do. He kissed her. It wasn’t a soft kiss or a sweet kiss. It was a ‘you-scared-me-and-messed-with-me-and-I’m-mad-and-relieved-and-unbelievably-frustrated’ kind of kiss. It was teeth and lips and nipping and bruising, and Finn couldn’t make himself stop, even when Bonnie’s teeth tugged at his lower lip and her hands pulled at his hair. Especially then. And when she wrapped her arms around his neck and stepped up onto his toes so that she could press herself flush against him, he decided revenge really was sweet, and enjoyed the feel of her face against his, the wet heat of her mouth making him forget he was standing in the middle of a Motel 6 parking lot with his ride rumbling behind him, the driver side door still hanging wide open. The rational part of his brain was stunned into peaceful silence…for all of ten seconds.

~ Excerpt ~

Wait. Don’t go. Stay. Whether we have sex or not, I just want your company.” His expression appears sincere, but he seems to have several sides to him.
With my back against the door, I keep my eyes on his. “Look. I don’t sleep around… much. But I have slept with someone just because it was Wednesday.” I shrug. “So I’m not innocent over here, but I work hard and I have a pretty crappy social life because of it. Sometimes it’s nice to feel a warm touch that vibrates with excitement instead of a cold one that’s battery-operated.” I step forward as if I owe him more, more of an explanation, or more of me, I’m not sure. “Judge me if you must, but I’m in Vegas and now officially on vacation. And despite what you may think, I’ve only had the one drink so far today, so I’m not drunk. I’m a grown woman who appreciates a handsome face and the artistry of a tattoo that has meaning to the person wearing it. I actually thought we’d have dinner and a good time. All that came from somewhere pure, somewhere that now feels dirty, a little tainted. So I’m going now and if one day you find yourself not so lost in Los Angeles, you know my information.”
I don’t wait for a response or apology. I don’t know Dalton well enough to know if he’d offer one anyway. So I go without looking back, passing the room service waiter on the way, and hop in an elevator that’s for the exclusive use of the two penthouses.
Half expecting to hear him call after me, my finger hovers over the Lobby button, but I count to ten and when I don’t hear anything, I push it. The doors start to close when a hand reaches in, stopping them. Dalton peeks around the corner with a big smile in place, and says, “Can we start over? Stay for dinner?”
“Why?”
“Because I like you. I like your honesty and I don’t get much honesty in my line of work.”
“You’re an undercover narc. Of course you don’t get much honesty. Isn’t that why you got into the business?”
A sly smile crosses his face, revealing a small dimple in his cheek. A light sparks from within, reflecting in his eyes, and with a nod of his head, he says, “Come back. I’ll feed you and give you the sex you came up here for. Because it’s a Friday and while Friday may not be hump day, it’s still a damn good day of the week.”
My mouth drops open. “The sex? You’ll give me the sex because it’s Friday?” I roll my eyes while huffing, and then push the lobby button twice.
Stepping inside, he blocks the doors from closing and a buzz is heard from overhead. With his arms stretched wide, he looks into my eyes. “No. I mean, if you want the food that’s currently getting cold inside, you can have it. If you want to have sex, let’s fuck. You can have anything you want.”
The elevator starts buzzing even louder, escalating its level of warning. Dalton spreads his feet apart to hold the doors open and reaches for me. “I’ll even call you Holli since that’s what you prefer.”
He’s sexy and when he’s flirting with me, even sexier. I can’t give in too easily though. I should make a few ground rules, or at least one. “I’ll only come back on one condition.”
“Name it.”

The writing was great and the story was entertaining.

Emme is a really talented singer trying to make a name for herself, despite her bad reputation. She's often referred to as the slut that broke up the band, Indelible Lines, a popular husband and wife duo. She found herself in the middle of a scandal after being accused of having an affair with the husband. She never slept with him, but she doesn’t deny the accusations. She just lets her family, current band mates and the tabloids go along with thinking she was the cause of the break-up. It really didn’t make sense to me that she wouldn’t stick up for herself, especially when everyone was giving her such a hard time about it.

Emme’s band is going on tour and in need of a bass guitarist. They end up hiring, Tom, the owner of a bar where the band played a show. Tom was stuck living someone else’s life and taking care of his alcoholic younger sister, when he was given the opportunity to live his dream. I just loved that he was such a nice guy. There’s an instant attraction between Tom and Emmie and it isn’t long before Emme is breaking her rule of never get involved with band members. She just can’t resist him, especially when she finds out Tom will let her take control. That he wants her to take charge and not be polite about it.

"They ought to be calling you a goddess," he said. "A sexy, confident, talented goddess. And I hope I never hear anyone call you anything less."

I liked that the story was different from the typical rock-star book, because the girl was the one in the spotlight, not the guy. But, I prefer the guy to be the more dominant aggressor. So it was hard for me to accept Emmie being dominant in the bedroom. Tom was such a nice guy, but at times he came off as weak to me.

~ Excerpt ~
I flopped back down, hating that she was seeing me like this. Scarred. Weak. Broken. Scared. Maybe I should start gagging myself when I went to bed. Or just give up sleeping altogether. “I’m fine,” I said, my voice a lot harder than I’d wanted it to be. “Just fucking relax.”
She stiffened. If this had been before I’d been fucked up, she would have snapped back at me. Given me as good as I gave her. But she was walking on eggshells around me. Pampering me. I just wanted her to fight with me and be my stubborn Carrie. I wanted that easy camaraderie back so bad that it hurt more than my arm and my head combined.
She nodded, nibbling on her lower lip. “I’m sorry. I—”

Don’t.” I rolled out of the bed. “Don’t apologize to me again.”
“Excuse me?”

“You keep apologizing when I’m the one being a prick. Stop it.”

She shook her head. “You’re not being a ‘prick.’”

“Yeah. I am.”

She stood up, too, and curled her hands at her sides. “I know you’re stressed and not sleeping well. It’s okay to be a little cranky after what you experienced.”
“A little bit cranky?” I locked the door. “That’s the understatement of the damn century.”
She ignored me. Just lifted that stubborn chin of hers higher. “I know this is hard for you to deal with, so I’m not going to fight with you, no matter how hard you try to piss me off.”
“You never do anymore, Carrie.” I crossed the room slowly, never taking my eyes off her. “You’re too scared to.”
She bit down on her lip. I watched her, studying the curve of that lip. I loved that little pink mouth of hers. And suddenly, I wanted to taste it. No, needed to taste it. Wanted to feel normal for one fucking minute of today, before I lost myself in the agony that wouldn’t leave me alone. Wanted to go back to how I’d been, instead of what I’d become. “I’m not scared of you, Finn. But tell me, what do you want from me? You want me to fight with you?”
“Sometimes, yes. But not right now—not anymore.” I stepped closer. “Right now? I want you. Nothing more. Nothing less.”
Finn.” She held her hands out. “You already have me.”

“No. I had you.” I shook my head. “But I haven’t had you since I’ve come back.”

Comprehension lit her eyes, and she flushed. “Then you can have me.”

With You (Tear Asunder 0.5) and Torn from You (Tear Asunder 1) by Nashoda Rose

With You
With You (Tear Asunder 0.5)

This prequel novella is the story of how Sculpt meets Emily.

Emily is a shy girl who needs to learn how to fight. She needs personal defense classes and she believes getting them from the illegal underground fighter Sculpt is the best way. Convincing him is another story.

Sculpt is an alpha male. He is an illegal fighter, he has tattoos and he is in a band. His voice is amazing and his band Torn will hit it big sometime soon. When Emily asks for his help he agrees after he learns why she needs it in the first place.  Soon he wants more from "Mouse" and the rest is history.
Wait, not so fast. This is just the beginning and Oh My, what a cliffhanger.

I love Emily and Sculpt. He is sexy and dangerous but he falls for Emily big time.

“Mouse.” He fell to the side and brought me with him so I was snug to his chest, my legs tangled within his. “Emily. You’re a fuckn’ trophy. My trophy.”

Sculpt is the perfect combination of hot tattooed, illegal fighter and rockstar all into one.

You will devour this book and start Torn from You immediately. I guaranteed it.

“Lego building.”
I jerked at his words. “What?”
“You think too much.”
“So? I have a lot on my mind. And what does Lego have to do with it?”
His dark eyes narrowed. “You build up blocks in your head in techno color.”

Torn from You (Tear Asunder #1)
by Nashoda Rose

Torn From You
Torn from You begins just after the ending of With You.
This is a dark contemporary romance.  So if you don't like this type of book please refrain from reading it.

The first half of the book deals with sex trafficking.
Emily is abducted and taken to a place in Mexico.
Raul is the leader and he is not a good man nor is the people around him.

Emily is beaten and she will be sold to the highest bidder unless Sculpt wins a fight.
Emily is broken. She believes Logan has betrayed her and she wants to escape.  Her sanity is at stake when she witnessed heinous acts committed around her.

The second half of the book deals with Emily's life after 2 years have gone by.
Her group of friends have expanded and now includes old friends like Matt, Kat and Georgie and new friends like Deck and the Tear Asunder band members.

I hate to give spoilers away but this book gave me a serious book hangover. The story is dark and it was hard to read for me. I hate women being hurt and the picture Nashoda paints is so real that it's scary.
Emily is a survivor and despite the horrible situation she was in, she never really surrendered.  Her road to healing is a long one but I was very happy where the story went.
Sculpt/Logan won me over.  I thought about how much I love Caleb from Captive in the Dark and I can definitely add Logan to that list.  He was the perfect combination.
I'm dying to read all of the other character stories. I even wonder about Kai and Raven.
If you are able to read this type of romance, this is a must read.

Favorite quotes:

“You hate what I pretended to be. You hate that I wasn’t your knight in shining armor. You hate that I made you fear me. But don’t run from the truth, Eme. You want to hide behind your Lego blocks and not take the chance at being vulnerable again. But the truth is you’re more vulnerable now, because you are hiding.”

“Mouse, we can fix this.”
“It’s not just broken, Sculpt. It’s shattered.”

 “I will smash through them.”
“Smash through what?”
“The Legos, Emily.”

“Deck needs a fucking army of red ants shoved up his ass.”

“All sweet was out; hot and scary with a teaspoon of sweet was in.”

“I loved you. You used that against me,” I whispered in a ragged voice.
“No. I used it to save you.”

“Dream sweet, Emily.”

“Ethan? From Strikeback?”
I turned to Ethan. “You from Shrrikeback?” My words came out very slurred, but it sounded like he understood me.
“Yeah, Princess. My band.” He smiled and winked.
“He says yep.”
“Did I just here him call you Princess?”

“I can’t erase you. I tried, but I can’t.”
“You can’t erase what’s engraved.”

“You, Emily. You’re worth fighting for. I fought all my life, but never for anything worthwhile. Now ... Now I’m fighting for my heart. Bullshit ends here and now.”

Finding Us by Megan Smith

Finding Us
Jasmine Jennings is living in NYC with her best friend Summer. She cut ties with her parents once she finished college and is able to have a good life because she was able to get her trust fund from her grandfather at age 22.

Her parents are rich and always pushed her to do what they want her to do.  The only love she received was from her nanny Marie.

Jasmine loves to dance and she does this as her job and  a relaxation technique.

Her friend Summer is dating a guy named Rex Mitchell. They get along well and when she meets his brother Knox Mitchell she knows she is in trouble. She tries to stay away from him but he keeps on finding her.

Knox Mitchell is all about revenge. He doesn't care that he is attracted to Jasmine or does he?  The more he knows her the more he likes her.

Secrets. They never stay hidden for too long and these could break them apart.

I read this book in an afternoon. It was an easy read.
I enjoyed most of it. I do believe that the ending was too rushed for me. I liked both characters although I wanted to scream at Knox sometimes. I liked the friends dynamic too and I want to read their stories as a well. I know Jeremy is next.

“I’m still trying to find my way out of this nightmare I’ve been living in.” Knox sighs deeply. “I’m still trying to find my way in life.”
I place a finger under Knox’s chin and tilt his head up. What I see in his eyes is like a mirror of my own. “We’re both lost. We’re trying to find our way and we’re working on finding us.”
Knox’s breath hitches before he crashes his mouth to mine. “We’re finding us.”

Lost in Me (Here and Now #1) by Lexi Ryan

Lost In Me
What happens when you wake up to realize the last year of your life is gone?  Yet, your life seems perfect. You are engaged to the man of your dreams, you are skinny and you have the job you always wanted. Although, your relationship with your twin sister's strained and you may have been cheating on your awesome fiancée with a rock star.

This is exactly want happens to our heroine Hannah.

As soon as Hannah leaves the hospital, she tries to piece her life together and starts uncovering things about herself that shocks her. In addition, little by little she begins to fix her relationship with her twin sister Lizzy who is also her best friend.

In regards to her love life, she is over the moon about Max loving her and wanting to marry her but she is torn in regards to Nate. Nate Crane, the sexy rock star who seems to know her best.  She tries to push him away but every time she does, she feels her heart breaking a little bit.
What is the right decision to make?

I really liked this book. It's fast paced and very entertaining. I like Max but from the moment Nate makes an appearance ( and what an appearance it was!!!) I was team Nate.
This is supposed to be a trilogy, and this book ends in a cliffhanger (which I hate). There are so many questions left unanswered including if someone purposely tried to hurt Hannah (making her fall down the stairs), what happened the four days before the accident,  to whom is she going to choose. I know what my answer would be.

Just Breathe by Tamara Mataya

Elle Granger is a librarian who suffers from synaesthesia. She is also nursing a broken heart when her boyfriend Jason leaves her without a real break up. She turns to pot for relief and once pot becomes too much for her, she switches to wine.

Elle is to ashamed about being left behind to tell her friends the truth about her relationship. Instead she says it was a mutual decision.

One day at the library she meets Hazel Eyes. This attractive man is asking for book recommendations and Elle jumps to the idea of helping the stranger fall in love with new authors and genres. When he comes back she learns his name is Dominic.
Soon Dominic is invading all her senses and her dates with him are all special. He takes the time to learn her condition without making her feel it's an obstacle.
But her happiness may be gone when lies are uncovered.

I must admit that the story is different. However, I was unable to relate to Elle and her pot addiction.  As soon as her life went the wrong way she fell into a self destructive behavior.
On the other hand, I liked Dominic.  He was super sweet to Elle and he never took her for granted.  He was extra careful with her synaesthesia, very attentive and perceptive.
I disliked Jason. He hurt Elle. He was selfish, arrogant and a complete looser.

The More Series

More Than This, #1

*Mikayla*
In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun. This is my story of friendship and love, heartbreak and desire, and the strength to show weakness.

*Jake*
One night I met a girl. A sad and broken girl, but one more beautiful than any other. She laughed through her sadness, while I loved through her heartbreak.

*This is our story of a maybe ever after.*

He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.
I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.
I couldn’t even predict it.
It was one night.
One night when everything changed.
It was so much more than just the betrayal.
It was the Tragedy.
The Deaths.
The Murders.
But it was also that feeling.
The feeling of falling.

More Than Her, #2

For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction." For every choice you make there are rewards, or there are consequences. It was my choice to walk away the first time. And my choice to chase her the second. But sometimes you don't get a choice, and all you get are the consequences.” "Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Unless that someone is Logan Matthews. Because loving him didn't give me the strength to walk away. It didn't give me the courage to fight for him. And when it was over, all it gave me was a broken heart.

More Than Him, #3

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us." - Marianne Williamson

We live in a world of darkness and shadows,
where monsters hide and aim to ruin.
And they did.
They ruined us and turned our dreams into nightmares.
But now we're back.
And we're fighting.
Not just for us, or for each other, but for our light.
