Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lux #1

Katy Swartz has moved to West Virginia. Her mom has decided her memories of her dad who died three years ago is too painful. So leaving sunny Florida is the best choice.

When Kathy knocks on her next-door neighbor's door she can't close her mouth. The boy in front of her is gorgeous with beautiful green eyes. When he starts talking she wants him to close his mouth. Daemon Black comes out as an arrogant pretty boy.

This, in some ways, changed through the book.

It turns out Daemon and his twin sister Dee (who becomes Kathy's best friend) are aliens. They are Luxen. Some parts of the government knows about them and even provides funds to them. They can manage the light. Their enemies are the Arum and they can handle the shadows.

When Daemon saves her life, she becomes like a beacon to an Arum. In order to survive, she will need to stay close to Daemon.

I like Katy as a character. She is not defenseless. She can banter with Daemon till the next new year. I also like that she has a blog and reviews paranormal, UF books. I love it when Daemon calls her Kitten.

The plot was good and it kept my interest to the end.

When I started reading, I didn't know Daemon was an alien. So this is my first book about aliens. Happily surprised.

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect.” His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. “The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”- Daemon
